And the absurd keyhole neck didn’t do any justice either. What worked was that the dress helped her to show off her slender frame.Talking about gender gap in entrepreneurship, Ivanka said, “Women still face steep obstacles to starting, owning and growing their businesses. We must ensure women entrepreneurs have access to capital, access to networks and mentors.” The packed auditorim burst into round of appluse in a heavily-guarded conference. centre.Later in the evening, a royal dinner was hosted for the President’s daughter, who is being treated almost like a state guest. At the Falaknuma Palace, a starry Bollywood contingent led by none other than Shah Rukh Khan will dine with Ivanka Trump. The guests will be served finest of the royal cuisines that include signature Hyderabadi dishes such Murg Pista Ka Salan, Dahi Ke Kebab, Gosht Shikampuri Kebab, Khubani Ka Malai Kofta and Sitaphal Kulfi.Ivanka Trump, who ran an eponymous clothing and jewellery business before becoming an adviser in the White House, has made women’s issues one of her main policy areas. The fact that no senior member of the Trump administration accompanied her didn’t deter Ivanka from giving a rousing speech.
<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>If you are living in Delhi-NCR, chances are either you are planning to or have already visited the India International Trade Fair, currently going on in Pragati Maidan. The 37th Trade Fair, which was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on November 14, has seen lesser footfall compared to the previous years. The single biggest reason is lack of open space. Until last year, the Trade Fair used to be organised in over 100,000 square meters of open space. But with ongoing construction work, the space has been reduced and there are fewer exhibitors this year. Most people are saying ‘pehle wali baat nahi hai (it’s not like earlier times).’Love it or hate it, Delhi has still not given up on this lavish fair.So while many would tell you what’s hot and what’s not this year, we decided to give a different side of the Trade Fair. Here’s our list of types of visitors that we saw in Trade Fair on Monday:The veterans: As the name suggest, they ALWAYS visit the Trade Fair. They are those who carry ghar ka khana, chatai or newspapers and water bottles. They know which stalls to go, the best discounts offered and just how to beat rush. They never fall for old gimmick, remember each pavilion by heart. Talk to them and you would hear, ‘arre, pahele kya baat thi…bahut variety thi (There used to be great time, lots of variety).’ Yes, to be honest, that is true indeed. There was a time when there was an entire hall dedicated to toys, yes loads of toys! The freeloaders: They are pain for all exhibitors, especially those dealing in food items. They never shy from ‘bhaisaab, try karana’. Be it gajjak, latest pasta, shampoo sachets or even pamphlet of a dishwasher, they just want everything. This year, we saw some queuing up for free balloons! The trend-setters: If you spot every second visitor buying one particular item, it is because of them. They set the trend. Be it fake flowers, buying crockery by kilo (yes, that happens) or new beauty product, just see around. The haters: Why there are so many people, why everyone is in same state pavilion as me, why the food is so bad, why toilets are not clean, why they are playing this music…you get the drift, right? These are the people who simply hate anything and everything. Till last year, this group kept on saying ki ‘yaar, kitna chalna padta hai’ and this year they are ruing over lack of open space! You just can’t keep them happy! The harassed lot: You will spot many outside the entry gates of Pragati Maidan. They didn’t realise that tickets are available online only. Though you can buy tickets at metro stations, but don’t dare getting down at Pragati Maidan and think, ‘ok, I’m here, let me buy tickets first,’ cause they don’t sell tickets there, duh! Classic example is the family who travelled all the way from Rohini only to realise they can’t buy tickets here. Oops, last heard, the husband sheepishly suggested…’chidiyaghar hi ghoom lete hain (let’s go to zoo)’.Also at Trade Fair:Aadhaar and Income Tax and GST stalls: Biggest crowd-puller this year are the government stalls.Crockery by kilo: You want a new dinner set? Or a pair of new storage jars? Just check out these stalls (I got some cool stuff in hall number 12).Super SARAS: The best stall, ever! Don’t want to buy that overpriced ethnic dupatta at neighbourhood mall? Just check out these amazing stalls at SARAS and have a blast. From weavers of Assam to Punjab’s Phulkari, you will get it all.The CRPF band: Alas, there’s no defence pavilion now. But you still have CRPF gallery and BSF stall. Plus, if you are there at right time, you can check the awesome performance of the CRPF band.No state pavilions: Remember the beautiful Kerala state pavilion or one from Gujarat….they all have been razed to ground. All state exhibitors are showcasing their products in state hangars instead.

The toddler is just like thousands of kids who are forced to stay indoor, thanks to the deadly smog that returned to Delhi-NCR today. When Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that the city ‘has become a gas chamber’, not many outside the city could understand what it means.Ask Keyvan, ask those who woke up to ‘winter is here’ thought, we can tell you that the life in ‘gas chamber’ is breathless existence.Last year, when the World Health Organization said the the air quality in the national capital is the worst the world, nothing was done to change that. This year, though the Supreme Court-led ban on the firecrackers helped us to breathe easy on Diwali, yet lack of a concrete plan means more pictures of masked individuals in front of India Gate and rise and rise in sale of air purifiers. The morning wore a foggy look and I thought wow, finally winter is here! But the moment I stepped outside, the toxic air filled my lungs and the dark reality of the realm hit me hard. Even at 4 pm, the sun was invisible in the cloak of smog. The WHO says that breathing Delhi air for a day is equal to smoking 20 cigarettes. By that logic, I have turned a full on smoker today.Never mind the itchiness in eyes and sore throat, we Delhi-NCR people are a brave lot. While our neighbour Beijing is shutting down factories to curb pollution, I haven’t still read any such plan by the Delhi government. Dear authorities, sprinkling water from chopper won’t help us.If the general public is feeling so pathetic, imagine the situation of those with history of asthma or other allergies. It’s a health emergency. We need to do something quick and NOW!

The usage of national highways as landing strips means that the Air Force can function even during such situations.6: This is the fourth time that fighter jets made a short landing on a national highway. A Mirage-2000 had landed on the Yamuna Expressway near Delhi for the first time in 2015. A similar exercise was conducted in May 2016, when a Mirage-2000 fighter plane touched down on the expressway. Last November, six Sukhoi-30 jets touched down on a 3.3- km stretch of the Lucknow-Agra Expressway.7: The drill is part of Centre’s effort to develop national highways as emergency landing strip.8: Across India, around 12 such highways have been identified for the purpose. Three of these 12 connect Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh — all Maoist-affected areas, which also witness vagaries of nature like floods and cyclones almost every year.9: To make the highways as fighter jet-friendly, the thickness of the tar used on these roads would be increased to make them strong enough.10: According to reports, the 12 highways have been selected in a way so that the Indian Air Force can cover the entire country.

The photo of 11 young terrorists in army fatigue not only rattled the security forces but also became hugely popular among the youth of Kashmir.Seen as a propaganda attempt, Burhan Wani and his terror gang not only impressed the young minds but swayed the mood in the Valley in their favour. But the Anantnag encounter changed the narrative and thus began the story that led security forces to neutralise one terrorist after another.Despite the clashes and tension following Burhan Wani killing, the security forces were successful in making the impact. But the 2015 photo may have helped the security forces. Before Burhan Wani, Adil Ahmad Khanday, Afaaqullah Bhat and Waseem Malla were killed in 2015 itself. Another major blow that year was surrender of Tariq Ahmad Pandit. In 2016, Burhan Wani was killed in Anantnag. Others who were eliminated include Ishfaq Hameed and Naseer Ahmad Pandit. This year, the biggest success was encounter of Sabzar Ahmad Bhat. Today’s encounter in Pulwama killed Waseem Shah, who had switched sides from Hizbul to Lashkar. Local information also suggests that Anees has also been killed. The only surviving member of the original Burhan Wani gang is Saddam Paddar.Apart from these, other major successes this year include Lashkar chief Abu Dujana, Jaish-e-Mohammed’s operational chief Abu Khalid among others. But the biggest headache of the security agencies remains Zakir Musa, chief of Al Qaeda-linked New Jihadist group ‘Ansar Ghazwat-Ul-Hind. The former top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen has not only distanced himself from the pro-Pakistan group, but is also seen and heard talking about establishing Sharia rule in Kashmir.
<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Uttar Pradesh government renamed the iconic Mughalsarai Railway Station after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay on Saturday. In a bid to revive the legacy of RSS ideologue, Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government has not just renamed the fourth busiest railway station in India, but has taken away the historic legacy of the place. The small town near Varanasi has been the point connecting east India to northern parts. There was a time back in 19th century, when the Grand Trunk Road built by Sher Shah Suri was used by the Indian Subcontinent and Mughalsarai being located along Sadak-e-Azam made it an important corridor. But it was only in 1883 when the British came here that the town was renamed as Mughalsarai. They began laying down railway lines and soon Patna-Mughalsarai division, Mughalsarai-Allahabad division, Mughalsarai-Varanasi-Rae Bareli and the Mughalsarai-Gaya division came into existence. For 134 years, the town and the station has been called Mughalsarai. So why would the Yogi government decide the rename it? Well, there is a strong connection between Mughalsarai station and the RSS ideologue.Deen Dayala Upadhyay had died under mysterious circumstances while travelling in a train at Mughalsarai station on February 11, 1968.In August the UP government had sent the proposal that was accepted by the Centre.Politicians have been renaming places, cities in line with their ideologies. From Bombay to Mumbai, from Madras to Chennai, from Elphinstone to Prabhadevi, there are many such examples. While Mughalsarai has seen many names such as Oven Nagar to Mangalpur, but renaming the railway station with Asia’s largest railway marshaling yard will change the way future generations see the place.
<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Rahul Gandhi has really upped his political game. The Congress Vice President has not only sharpened his attack on the ruling NDA government, but also has added much nuance to his narrative. It seems that success of Gujarat campaign was too good to be true. Gandhi, who is known for his infamous gaffes, added another one to his list when he accidentally walked in women’s toilet in Chhota Udepur. The Gandhi scion was in the Gujarat district to hold an ‘Samvad’ session with young people.Gandhi entered the women’s restroom while on his way out of the town hall at the event. According to reports, there was no sign or symbol differentiating between men and women’s toilet. The photos that went viral after the incident showed a poster in Gujarati that read ‘Mahilao Mate Shauchalya’.According to an India Today report, the moment Rahul Gandhi realised the blunder, he came out and started laughing.Gandhi has always been in news for his speech gaffes. In August, the Congress vice president refereed Indira Canteens in Bangalore as Amma canteen during the launch event.Last year, he spoke about ‘aloo ki factory’ during a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad. “You all are demanding a potato factory in your area, but you should understand I am an opposition leader. I can put pressure on the government, but cannot take the decision. I cannot open a potato factory for farmers,” he had said. But the most famous or rather infamous gaffe was when he was made the Congress Vice President in 2013.During a speech, he spoke about how his mother Sonia Gandhi woke him up at 1 am and said ‘This morning, I got up at night.’

Kitni mahila hain usme, kabhi shaakha mein mahilaon ko dekha hai shorts mein? Maine to nahi dekha (RSS is the main organisation of BJP. Have you ever seen any women in shorts at any shaakha? I haven’t seen one),” Gandhi said.He also lamented on how the BJP is not doing enough for women’s empowerment.Without naming the BHU violence, Gandhi went on slamming the BJP for its oppresive mindset. “Inki (BJP) thinking ha jab tak mahila chup rahe, kuch bole na tab tak mahila theek hai jaise hi mahila ne muh khola usko chup karvao (BJP’s thinking is that till the time a woman is silent, it’s fine, but the moment she speaks up, then they force her to shut up).Talking about lack of jobs, Gandhi said that all jobs are going to China. “Job creation is India’s main problem. 29,550 out of 30,000 new jobseekers are unable to secure their livelihoods…Selfies are fun but most phones are Made In China, helping their youth find jobs, not ours. Buy Indian phones,” Gandhi said.If morning was all about Rahul Gandhi, the second part of the day belonged to the BJP.The top brigade of the ruling party, both in the Centre and Uttar Pradesh, descended in Gandhi’s home turf — Amethi.Union Minister Smriti Irani, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP president Amit Shah were all in Amethi to show some ‘home truth’ to Congress.Irani and CM Yogi both spoke about how Congress has failed to develop Amethi. But the most formidable attack on the Opposition party was by BJP chief Amit Shah. Not only did he talk about the development work done by the Narendra Modi government, he also took jibe at Gandhi for attacking the ‘Gujarat model’.“People of Gujarat know what development means. You talk about ‘vikaas’, just see what you have done in Amethi,” Shah said.He continued with his ‘Rahul Baba’ jab and talked about 106 schemes launched by the Centre.Tuesday saw the two parties battling it out over the issue of development. While the Congress is saying that ‘Gujarat model’ has failed, the rally by BJP top command in Amethi was a stuning counter-attack.

The police said that he was running the extortion racket from the home of his sister Haseena Parker after her death in 2014.As the latest reports suggest that Iqbal Kaskar was in touch with his brother Anees Ibrahim, the police may be able to prove the link between Kaskar and his brothers in Pakistan.Amid all this, another important link in the D-Company mystery is Chota Rajan.Once a great friend and partner, Chota Rajan is now an arch enemy of Dawood Ibrahim.Arrested in Indonesia in 2015, Chota Rajan may be helping Indian security agencies with such specific intel. He is providing much insight to the police to nab the second most richest gangster in the world after Pablo Escobar, an HT report said. With arrest of Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood Ibrahim must be having sleepless nights in his plush home in Karachi.

Then I played it for entire night. They had given me 4 options. Make a shark from blade on your arm, jump off the terrace, take a plunge in the ocean or any river and run away. They said if you don’t complete the task within 3 days, something unimaginably bad will happen to you,” the teen said.Soon she lost her smartphone, which made her think that the warning will come true.“I thought now my mummy will also die. That’s why I didn’t go back to home,” the survivor said. The minor victim was rescued by the Jodhpur Police moments before the ‘last task’. The police saved her near the Kalyan Lake, where she had gone to end her life. She kept on telling the cops that she must complete the task else her mother will die.More than 4 children have allegedly committed suicide across country to complete the lethal challenge. From cutting oneself to watching horror movies at odd hours, to jumping off cliffs, the Blue Whale challenge has 50 such disturbing tasks. However, the challenge didn’t end in a tragedy as the cops were able to save the victim in nick of time. The survivor has a message for other children. “All this is fake, don’t believe in this. <!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A day after the Centre’s pro-marital rape affidavit, in what can be termed as small victory for women rights, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea about criminalising marital rape. The High Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea by a gender equality organisation. The pleas advocate that rape in marriage must be made a crime on the ground that sexual violence violated human rights.A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar allowed the intervention application by Forum to Engage Men (FEM) and made it a party in the petitions seeking declaration of Section 375 (offence of rape) of the Indian Penal Code as unconstitutional. The rights group has argued that the IPC Section discriminates against married women being sexually assaulted by their husbands. The latest development will bring some relief for many gender equality groups that had slammed the government for filing an affidavit that supported marital rape.In the affidavit, the Centre had said, “the marital rape cannot be made a criminal offence as it could become a phenomenon which may destabilise the institution of marriage and an easy tool for harassing the husbands.”However, the Wednesday’s decision by the High Court will not only help in furthering the debate on marital rape but may actually force the government to change its stand on the issue. The High Court was hearing the application filed by Dr Abhijit Das, a member of FEM which claims to be a network of organisations and individuals, said wives should not be reduced to objects and supported women’s right for effective decision-making on reproduction. It said that marital rape was an exception in the law that took away the rights of the wives to say “no”, as also their right to say “yes” to consensual sexual intercourse.”Marriage is a partnership between equals. However, men have historically assumed privileges including the privilege of having sex at their instance. Most women have been conditioned to accept that.”The fact that some women have been driven to complain of coerced sex and sexual violence indicates that they are going through extreme levels of violence and coercion and have been literally pushed to the wall,” the plea said.”We believe that in Indian society, a wife will only bring about such a complaint against her husband when there is actual non-consent and she is desperate,” it said. The court has agreed to examine the issue raised in the Public Interest Litigations by the NGOs RIT Foundation, All India Democratic Women’s Association and a man and a woman, who have sought striking down of the exception in the Indian penal law that did not consider sexual intercourse with a wife, not less than 15 years of age, as rape.(With PTI inputs)

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Nearly two months after the gangrape-and-murder of a 16-year-old girl shook Himachal Pradesh, the CBI on Tuesday arrested an Inspector General ranking officer, seven others over custodial death of an accused in the case.Inspector General of Himachal Pradesh Police Zahur Haidar Zaidi, who was heading the Special Investigation Team in the case, had claimed to have solved the case on July 13.However, after the public anger refused to die down, Zaidi went on leave without the much needed explanation.Earlier, Zaidi, who was the inspector general (IG) southern range, was transferred as IG (welfare and administration), Shimla police headquarters, a Hindustan Times report said.Zaidi and others have been arrested in connection with the custodial death of a Nepalese labourer, who was a suspect in the rape-and-murder of Gudiya, the minor school girl in Kotkhai area of Shimla.During the probe of the July 4 rape-and-murder case, the state police had taken custody of six suspects who were lodged at the local police station.Suraj Singh, a 29-year-old labourer from Nepal, was allegedly killed by a co-accused at the Kotkhai police station last month. The state saw massive protests from the public that accused the government of shielding the real culprits as they belonged from rich families. The CBI, which was later handed over the probe into the case by the Himachal Pradesh High Court, questioned several people before arresting 1994-batch IPS officer Zaidi, the then IGP (South), Manoj Joshi, the then Deputy Superintendent of Police, and six other police officials, the agency officials said. The arrested would be produced before a court on Wednesday, they said. The agency has registered two separate FIRs on the rape- and-murder of the minor girl and the custodial death of the suspect.”The CBI has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a Superintendent of Police and an Additional SP and a Deputy SP, and taken over the investigation of both the cases,” a CBI spokesperson had said.Gudiya was allegedly abducted from her way to home after school and gangraped by the accused. It was only after the medical examination that the case of sexual assault came to light. The teenager who was always accompanied by her brother was alone on that fateful day.According to reports, one of the accused who was from her village, offered Gudiya lift in his pickup van. After travelling for some distance, the accused along with five others took Gudiya to a nearby forest and gangraped her. <!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Marital rape cannot be criminalised in India as it would destabilise the institution of marriage, the Centre told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday.According to latest media reports, the ruling NDA government was responding to a petition filed by an NGO representing men victimised by misuse of the gender laws.According to the affidavit filed in the court, the government said, “Marital rape in India cannot be criminalized as India has its own unique set of problems like literacy, lack of financial empowerment of the majority of females, mindset of the society, vast diversity, poverty, etc.”What lies at the heart of this debate is Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code. The section that defines “rape” and “consent” has a very fine detail that changes how one views rape in the marriages. According to the section, “sexual intercourse or sexual acts by a man with his own wife, the wife not being under 15 years of age, is not rape”.The ruling NDA government that has been appreciated for its pro-women, gender justice approach has always opposed the concept of criminalising marital rape.In 2015, NDA minister Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that, “It is considered that the concept of marital rape, as understood internationally, cannot be suitably applied in the Indian context.”Though the United Nations may have recommended India to criminalise marital rape, the government has never reacted positively on the issue.Coincidentally, on a day when the government was stating its stand on the issue, Supreme Court lawyer and husband of Union Minister Sushma Swaraj was under fire for ‘pro-marital rape’ tweet. In a country where over a lakh women are suffering domestic violence silently, the issue of marital rape is rather very shadowy.Be it societal concern or the taboo of discussing sexual violence in marriage, despite growing voices, nothing concrete has been done in this regard.
