<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>An ardent Sanjay Dutt fan inspired by the actor’s Khalnayak character, wanted for a series of attempts to murder, thefts, robberies and snatching, was arrested on Sunday by the Delhi Police in a raid.Senior officials said that the accused told them he wanted to earn quick money to become influential enough to try his luck at the Bollywood but failed. A pistol and a stolen motorcycle was recovered from him.According to police officers, the accused landed in the trap when a special drive to curb the menace of auto lifting and snatching was initiated in southwest district by a team from the district special staff led by Sub Inspector Naveen Kumar. DCP South-West, Shibesh Singh said that various gangs active in the area were brought under the police radar and their modus operandi was analysed.”During this exercise the team received a specific tip-off that one criminal Deepak alias Pradeep, known as Sanju Baba in his friends circle — previously involved in several cases of chain snatching, auto-thefts and also wanted in eight cases of attempt to murder — is active in the district. It was learnt that the criminal would come to Ganda Nala road near Kakrola Mod on Saturday. Keeping this in mind, a trap was laid and the accused Deepak was arrested. One loaded country made pistol and a stolen motorcycle was recovered from him at the time of arrest,” the DCP said.Police said the accused is a permanent resident of Pataudi in Haryana. He has studied upto Class VII and fell in bad company, when he got addicted to drugs.”Since his adolescence he wanted to become a Bollywood star and was inspired by Sanjay Dutt and his role of a gangster in films like Khalnayak and Vastav. He started copying the actor and soon became famous as Sanju Baba in his friend circle. He started committing chain snatchings and auto-theft with his younger brother Nitin. He was first arrested with Nitin in 2008 in an attempt to murder case of Palam Village. After getting released from jail, his brother Nitin started committing robberies and snatchings and a reward of Rs. 50,000 was declared for his arrest. He was also involved in criminal activities with his brother,” the officer said.Singh added that Deepak went to Mumbai in 2013 to start his dream career in films but ended up spending all his money without success. He returned to Delhi and became addicted to drugs which further pushed him into the crime-world.
