In a democracy a woman has the Right to Vote, and as a sign of progressive democracy there should be equal representation by them in the House as well. Sadly, the scene will be different in the Gujarat Assembly these elections.A total of 112 women candidates were in fray for the state Assembly election, but only 11 candidates are now going to make their way to the House. Only 11 per cent of the total fielded candidates have won people’s mandate. This is the lowest number as compared the last three Assembly elections. After 2002 election, there were 12 women candidates in the House. In 1995, there were two female candidates; in 1998, four women representatives were elected as Member of State Legislative Assembly (MLA). However, in 2007, there were 15 members and in 2012 elections there were 16 MLAs.
