Sources in the BJP as well as the Patidar community informed that Patel is seeking a ticket from BJP for contesting from Unjha Assembly consituency in the upcoming elections. The seat is presently represented by Naran Lallu Patel, a five-time MLA.RP Patel could not be reached for a comment despite several attempts. However, at the November 1 press conference, he had clearly denied that he would be contesting the elections.”There are many people in our community who are interested in contesting elections. However, I personally am not,” he had said.At the press conference, he had accused Hardik and others of leading the community’s youths on the wrong path, “Some misled youths are misusing the Patidar community’s name for personal gains.”While coming down heavily on the Congress for “misleading the Patidar community for electoral gains”, Patel had also defended the state government saying that it had already accepted the community’s key demands about withdrawal of court cases against Patidars, giving jobs to kin of dead Patel youths, granting reservation benefits, among others.
