A rickshaw driver and his friend have been arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman in Kondhwa area of Pune on Wednesday night. According to the woman, she had boarded the rickshaw when the driver called up his friend and both raped her. Following her complaint to Kondhwa police station, the rickshaw driver and his friend were arrested on Thursday. The rickshaw driver has been identified as Balaji Maruti Shinde (31) and his friend has been identified as Satish Jaypal Mane (23). According to police, the woman is a divorcee and after separating from her husband she has been staying with her parents in Yerwada area. The woman in her statement given to police stated that on Wednesday night, she had an argument with her brother and then she left her house to go to her ex-husband.Senior inspector Milind Gaikwad, in charge of Kondhwa police station told DNA, “On Wednesday night, the woman came to Kondhwa but she could not meet her ex-husband. Later she boarded Shinde’s rickshaw but since she had a fight with her parents, she was looking for shelter.””The woman in her complaint stated that the Shinde called his friend Mane, while passing though Kondhwa. Taking advantage of her helplessness, Mane took her to Siddharthnagar area in Kondhwa and raped her. Later even Shinde also raped her by taking her to Hadapsar area,” Gaikwad added. According to the statement of the woman, after raping her, Shinde called another friend of his who took her to camp area in Shinde’s rickshaw where he molested her and left on Thursday early morning. Meanwhile, the woman’s family had approached Yerwada police where they had lodged a missing complaint . On Thursday morning, one of the constables of Yerwada police station spotted the lady walking in Yerwada area and after enquiring, she narrated the whole incident. Based on the complaint of the woman, Shinde and Mane were arrested on Thursday while the third person who allegedly dropped her in camp area is still at large. The arrested persons were produced before the court where they have been remanded police custody for seven days.
