<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>In good news for commuters on the Harbour line, starting December, services will extend till Goregaon. The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has acquired the much-needed rail tracks and ballasts earlier this month to be placed on the pending stretches between Andheri and Goregaon stations. In the last one week, officials and workers of the MRVC were seen at different stretches between Andheri and Ram Mandir stations where tracks were missing even though the alignment was made ready.Senior officials said that the process of dropping off the materials was to happen earlier but was delayed because of the Elphinstone Road stampede. The metals were then transferred for safety-related works rather than installation of new rail lines.”There was a shortfall of tracks for some time but we managed to convince the Railway Board to sanction it for this route as tracks were needed only for a small stretch,” said an MRVC official. Moreover, the MRVC acquired sand and ballasts, for the Rs 103 crore project, from Sabarmati river earlier last week. The two rail lines, whose height is slightly above the slow lines running next to it, are ready for trains to ply on them. This line will now allow trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), which currently terminates at Andheri, to go till Goregaon. For this project, new platforms for Jogeshwari have been created and are almost half a kilometre away from the existing station.
