Stepping up their anti-terror offensive, security forces killed two top terrorists in a fierce gunfight at Bat Muran village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.The encounter started on Monday evening after security forces received a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the villageImmediately the village was cordoned off and when the search team was zeroing in on the target, gunmen opened heavy fire.The fire was retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight two were gunned down.”Two terrorists have been killed. Operation is in progress”, said an army spokesman at Srinagar.One of the terrorists have been identified as Tanveer Bhat.Another terrorist is a foreign national and efforts are on to identify him. Army sources said there is likelihood of third terrorist hiding in the house and operation is on to neutralise him too.Sources said the firing has resumed this morning after contact was established with the hiding militant at encounter site. Sources said it was during search and mopping operation, the third hiding terrorist opened fire from the same house triggering the gun fight again.The 2017 also saw highest number of over 200 militants being killed since 2010. Figures reveal that 270 terrorist were killed by security forces in 2010. The figure came down to 119 in 2011.Around 84 terrorist were killed in 2012 followed by 100 in 2013, 110 in 2014 and 113 in 2015. Despite unrest, security forces killed 165 ultras in 2016.This year close to 100 local youth have joined the terrorist ranks in the strife-torn Kashmir Valley, which is the highest in last seven years.
