New NHM results reverse outcomes for most candidates

Following the outcry over the discrepancies in the results of the Uttar Pradesh National Health Mission written exam for the posts of nurses and other staff, the results have been reversed and those who were earlier declared pass were failed and vice versa. After the Yogi Adityanath government order, the NHM published revised results, in which those in the general category, who had been declared fail, were declared passed, while reserved category candidates —who were earlier declared successful — were flunked.A total of 3,814 candidates were declared successful in the revised results tabulated with new cut-off marks for general (33 per cent), OBC (30 per cent) and 24 per cent for the SC/ST following the controversy over results declared on December 22.A general category candidate, who had obtained 64 out of 90 marks and was declared failed, has now been deemed selected in the revised result. Similarly, reserved category candidates who had scored a paltry 3 and 8 out of 90were declared failed in the revision. Thus, a total of 258 reserved category candidates who had obtained less than 24 per cent marks and were declared successful earlier have now failed to qualify for interviews.Taking a serious note of the irregularities, the Adityanath government had ordered a probe and suspended the General Manager Human Resources (HR) NHM Sandeep Saxena. A show cause notice was also slappedon NHM Director Pankaj Kumar.State Health Minister Dr Siddharth Nath Singh has assured strict action against erring officials after the probe is completed. “We have already placed the HR Head under suspension for a free and fair probe. Further action would be taken against officials responsible for the goof-up once the inquiry is over and report submitted,” said the minister.

PM Modi’s Noida visit: 2 cops suspended for negligence

The multi-layered security, set up specially for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Noida visit, was seriously breached on Monday when when his cavalcade suddenly left the “sanitised” route and took a wrong turn, before being stuck in traffic. The Gautam Budh Nagar police have now suspended a sub-inspector and a constable, for negligence in duty. The PM had come to inaugurate a section of the Magenta Line of Metro.Reportedly, Modi’s security was compromised when his convoy lost its way while heading to the helipad from a public meeting at the Amity University. A departmental inquiry against two other circle officers has also been ordered by the Uttar Pradesh Police. CM Yogi also slammed the senior police officers for this mishap.According to the police, the two cops have been identified as sub-inspector Dilip Singh, posted at Dankaur police station, and constable Dayanand. The convoy in which Modi was travelling, along with the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, lost its way on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, while going to helipad at the Botanical Garden from the Amity University. The other two circle officers against whom a departmental inquiry has been ordered have been identified as Sanjeev Deshwaal and Ram Karan Singh of Meerut.”The troop of VIP vehicles left the Amity University at 2.35 pm and used the service road at the Expressway to proceed towards Botanical Garden, from where the PM was supposed to board his plane. One of the security vehicles that was directing the troop took a turn before the designated one. There was no security arrangement on that path,” said Luv Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent Of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar.Police said this is considered a security breach and two police officers have been pulled up for the same.”The VVIP troop was caught in a traffic snarl at the Mahamaya flyover. Also, a motorcycle and a bus came very close to the fleet. After being stuck in the jam for three minutes, the convoy proceeded and the police officers rushed to the spot to clear the bottleneck,” Kumar added. On Monday, PM Modi flagged off the much-awaited Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line, connecting Noida to south Delhi. The PM boarded the Metro train at the Botanical station and deboarded at Okhla Bird Sanctuary station.CM Adityanath accompanied the PM during the maiden trip on the Magenta Line. BJP member Mahendra Nath Pandey and state governor Ram Naik also attended the inauguration ceremony.

Not inviting Arvind Kejriwal an insult to Delhiites

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said on Monday that not inviting Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to the launch of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line was an insult to the people. He said the Centre had fear that the CM might demand “rollback of Metro fare hike publicly”.The Delhi government was recently locked in a bitter battle with the Centre on the proposed Metro fare hike.Sisodia’s remarks came soon after PM Modi flagged off the 12.38 km stretch between Kalkaji and Botanical Garden Metro stations, along with UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.”Not calling the Delhi CM at the inauguration of a Delhi Metro project is an insult of the people of Delhi. There’s only one reason behind not inviting the CM — the fear that he may urge the PM to roll back the fare hike,” Sisodia tweeted.Of the nine stations on the Magenta Line, seven are within the boundaries of Delhi, while the remaining two are in Noida.

Faith is important but blind faith is not desirable: PM praises Yogi Adityanath for ignoring ‘Noida jinx’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today came in for praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for shrugging off a superstition that any chief minister who visits Noida does not assume the high office again. Those who entertain such superstitions have no right to be the chief minister, Modi said here. Adityanath visited Noida twice in three days rubbishing a widely believed myth in UP’s political and bureaucratic circles that a chief minister visiting Noida would face problems retaining his or her post. Also readDelhi Metro’s Magenta line a milestone in Noida’s development, says Yogi AdityanathIn the city to inaugurate the Metro’s Magenta line, Modi pointed to the saffron robed Adityanath and said that looking at his dress, the CM appeared to be superstitious, but had actually shown that he had the courage to break superstitions. A priest-turned-politician, Adityanath, could be seen smiling as Modi lavished praise. The prime minister said that Noida was not the only place to which superstitions had attached themselves.Recalling his days as the chief minister of Gujarat, Modi said there were 6 to 7 places in the state where no chief minister went out of the fear that whoever does so would lose his seat. “I ignored this and visited all such places,” Modi said and pointing that he remained Gujarat CM for nearly 20 years. In the modern scientific world there is no place for superstition, the prime minister asserted.Significantly, Adityanath’s chief ministerial visits to Noida came eight years after the last by the then CM Mayawati. In the ensuing election Mayawati’s BSP lost and her successor Akhilesh Yadav did not vist Noida.Several chief ministers in the past have not visited Noida, something attributed to the “jinx” about the city.

Karnataka polls: Congress not playing politics of divisiveness but of development, says KPCC chief

The Congress is “not playing” divisive politics based on caste and religion, but politics of development in the run-up to next year’s assembly polls, KPCC president G Parameshwara said today.”We are not playing the politics of divisiveness based on caste and religion, but politics of development. This is our motto going into the assembly election (early) next year,” he told PTI here.Parameshwara was replying to a query on dangers of playing divisive politics in relation to the Gujarat assembly polls in which the Congress lost to BJP.Also readFocus shifts to Karnataka and Northeast pollsHe said the Congress is a “mute spectator” on the controversial issue of a separate religious status for Lingayats, the majority community in the state.”It is wrong to say chief minister Siddaramaiah and Congress initiated this issue”, he said. Also readAAP mulling to contest Karnataka assembly polls”All that what chief minister is saying is that, in case Lingayats submit a proposal in this regard, he would forward the same to the union government for consideration,” he said.As far as ‘Tipu Jayanti’ is concerned, Parameshwara said it has been celebrated not to woo Muslims but to instil confidence in the minority community. Also readYogi Adityanath corners Congress over Tipu Sultan”We celebrated Tipu Jayanti, not to woo Muslims. Uttar Pradesh government tables UPCOCA to curb crime; opposition cries foul

The Yogi Adityanath government on Wednesday tabled the Uttar Pradesh Control of Organized Crime Act (UPCOCA) in the Assembly amidst protest from opposition parties. After getting a nod from the cabinet, Chief Minister Yogi Aditanath said that the new act would help the state government in controlling organised crime in Uttar Pradesh. He urged opposition parties to help government get the Bill passed from both Houses of the State Legislature. With opposition members vehemently opposing UPCOCA, Samawadi Party announced that they will not allow this Bill to pass.Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the BJP government introduced UPCOCA to settle scores with its political opponents. “Provisions of the new Act will be used to target political leaders. There are several laws to control crime effectively, there is no need to bring in another law to curb crime,” stated Akhilesh.BSP Supremo Mayawati has also opposed UPCOCA. “It will used against dalits, backwards and minorities. Anyone protesting against the BJP government will slapped with UPCOCA,” apprehended Mayawati. It is, however, another matter that she was the first to bring in UPCOCA when during her regime but had to drop after Samajwadi Party refused to support it.The new Bill was drafted on the lines of MCOCA. The new Bill recommends stringent action against organized crime including mafia gangs, illegal mining, land grabbing, kidnapping for ransom, supari killings etc.The Bill allows phone recordings as evidences and an accused can be kept under police custody for six months for interrogation. The period for filing chage sheet has also been doubled up to 180 days. Properties of accused would be attached and those earned through illegal means would be confiscated. It provides punishment of three years to capital punishment and a find of Rs 5 lakh to 25 lakh.A committee has been formed to review cases before slapping provisions of UPCOCA to check its misuse. Special Courts would be established to expedite speedy trials of accused.

Yogi Adityanath may finally break ‘Noida jinx’ by joining PM Modi there on Dec 25

Almost all Indians are superstitious by nature but none more so than politicians. Given the precarious nature of power almost every politician has a superstition that does not change over time. In fact, if anything, it increases till it turns into their minds as “fact.” This is the case of the self-imposed ban by many UP politicians on visiting Noida. Whether it has been the BJP, Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) or Samajwadi Party (SP), all UP chief ministers have avoided visiting this area, as it is believed that whoever did so would lose power. This powerful jinx though may see its end with the current BJP dispensation. According to sources, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may visit Noida for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of the Magenta line of the Delhi Metro which goes from Botanical Garden to Kalkaji. If the Chief Minister really does do so it may finally signal the end of the jinx.If Adityanath really does break this jinx he will be breaking a superstition that goes back all the way to 1988 (see box). In 1988 then UP Chief Minister Vir Bahadur Singh lost power days after visiting Noida. The theory of a jinx then took hold and has held firm since then. BSP leader Mayawati did try to break the jinx when she visited Noida four times as chief minister. However, she lost the 2012 assembly election, and one of the factors that was blamed was the ‘Noida jinx.’The fear of a jinx was so strong, that during his entire five-year term, then CM Akhilesh Yadav stayed away from the area. This fear was all the more ironic as Akhilesh was considered the modern face of the Samajwadi Party. But while he may have used video calls to inaugurate or launch projects in Noida and Greater Noida, he never visited. In August 2012, Akhilesh inaugurated the Yamuna Expressway from Lucknow and avoided travelling to Noida. The following year too, he inaugurated many infrastructure projects in Gautam Budh Nagar without visiting the city. But the fact that Akhilesh stayed away from Noida but still lost the election may help the current UP CM make up his mind. In any case, he still has a few days to decide. Prime Minister Modi’s Noida visit is only on December 25.However, people around Adityanath believe that he will break the jinx and visit Noida. Says a source, “Yogi is a modern age leader and does not believe in any superstition.” The proof of that will be seen on December 25.UP CMS & THE NOIDA JINX1988 Vir Bahadur Singh lost power days after visiting Noida. 1989 ND Tiwari lost power after visiting Noida 1995 Mulayam Singh was out of power within months of his Noida visit.1997 Mayawati lost power after visiting Noida. 1999 Kalyan Singh lost power after visiting Noida 2001 Rajnath Singh inaugurated the DND flyover from Delhi.2012 Mayawati went to Noida in October 2011 to inaugurate the memorial Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal. She lost the 2012 Assembly Elections.

Assembly elections 2017 results: People rejected caste politics for Gujarat Model of development, says Yogi Adityanath

Reacting to the BJP victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that it was a lesson for those who indulged in “divisive and caste politics” to reject the Gujarat Model of development.“People all over the world have lauded the Gujarat Model except for the Congress. BJP’s win should serve them as a lesson for the Congress,” reacted Chief Minister.“BJP not only retained Gujarat but wrested Himachal Pradesh from the Congress. People have rejected their caste and divisive policies and voted for BJP’s agenda for development,” pointed Yogi Adityanath. He attributed the Gujarat and Himachal win to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “It is the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister and party workers’ hard work that enabled the BJP to win at both places,” said the Chief Minister. He said that people of both states has given a befitting reply to the Congress for using unparliamentary language against the Prime Minister and stooping to a new low in politics by forgetting political courtesy. He did not forget to take a dig at the new AICC President Rahul Gandhi saying that he had predicted a few days ago that change of leadership in the Congress will be a good sign for the BJP and beginning of an end for the Congress. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said that the BJP win in Gujarat and Himachal has set the tone for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.”It is time for the Congress to do some serious introspection whether or not it should contest 2019 Lok Sabha polls. We will win all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh in 2019,” said Adityanath giving credit to party President Amit Shah’s poll strategy.

Winter Session of UP Assembly starts on a stormy note

The Winter Session of the UP Assembly began on a stormy note on Thursday when opposition created ruckus disrupting proceedings and forcing several adjournments.Opening day’s proceedings began on stormy note when the Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary raised and sought a debate on steep hike in power tariff and demanded its rollback during the question hour.Following refusal from the Chair, members of the Samajwadi Party, carrying placards for rollback of hike in power tariff, stormed the Well and raised anti-government slogans. The house was adjourned thrice following disruption by the opposition members.“We will not allow the House to run till our demand is met. Power hike was causing a blow to farmers, poor and middle class at a time when prices of essential commodities are spiralling due to the wrong policies of the Central government,” charged the Leader of Opposition.Despite request from the Speaker HN Dixit to maintain calm and let the proceedings continue, unruly Samajwadi Party members continued to stage prorest in front of the Well and staged a boycott. The Congress too supported the issues raised by the SP members. The question hour in both houses of the State Legislature could not be taken up due to opposition disrupting proceedings. Also readUP CM Yogi Adityanath to trim 94 government depts to 37The House was adjourned for most of the day when Speaker’s plea went unheeded. They have no work but noise to make,” charged the minister.Similar unruly scenes were witnessed in the Upper House (UP Council) when Samajwadi Party launched an attack on the ruling BJP on deteriorating law and order and shortage of seeds and fertilizers for the farmers. Carrying placards and donning sports caps with anti-government slogans written on them, Samajwadi Party and BSP members also raised the issue of faulty and rigged EVMs used during recently-concluded elections. Yogi Cabinet approves UPCOCA to check organized crime

To give more powers to security forces in controlling crime, law and order in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government approved the UP Control of Organized Crime Act (UPCOCA) on the lines of MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act).A Bill in this regard was approved by the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet on Wednesday after six-month long deliberations over the provisions of the Act. The Bill will now be tabled at the winter session of the State Legislature, beginning Thursday, for promulgation of the Act. In another important decision, the Cabinet also approved to install bio-metric attendance systems at the Secretariat and other government offices and made bio-metric attendance mandatory for all government employees, including the IAS, IPS and PCS officers. “The State government has accorded top priority to control law and order. The Act is aimed at tightening further noose around criminals in Uttar Pradesh,” said Srikant Sharma, BJP government Spokesperson. The Bill was drafted after studying the provisions made in MCOCA. Stringent measures have been recommended in the bill against those involved in criminal activities, organized crime like running mafia gangs, mine mafia, land grabbing, kidnapping for ransom etc.The Bill provides to confiscate and attach properties acquired through illegal means of criminals and makes provisions for punishment from minimum three years to Capital punishment. It also provides a fine of Rs 5 to 25 lakhs. To break the nexus between the criminals and politicians, it envisages special power to the police. The bill also proposes o extend period of filing chargesheet from 90 days to 180 days.Provisions of UPCOCA could be slapped only after recommendation of the Commissioner or IG rank officials. The state government would also establish special force and UPCOA Courts to expedite such cases. The Principal Secretary Home will personally monitor cases under UPCOA.The Yogi Adityanath government has already launched a massive cfrackdown against criminals in the state. About 30 reward-carrying criminals have so far been shot dead by the police in encounters.“The UPCOCA will give much-required additional powers to the security forces to send criminals to jail and get them punishment in shortest time through the UPCOA Courts,” said a senior police official. The ruling BJP has majority in UP Assembly but ot would be interesting how the Bill is passed in the UP Council, the Upper House, dominated by the opposition Samajwadi Party which had opposed the Bill in 2007 when then Chief Mayawati had tried to introduce it.

Dubbing Rahul Gandhi’s visits to temples as a mere “pretence”, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the Congress vice president to make his party’s stand clear on the Ram Janmabhoomi title dispute. He also alleged that the Congress was adopting double standards on the Ayodhya issue as it “does not want it to get resolved in a peaceful manner”.”I appeal to Rahul Gandhi to please clear the Congress’ stand on the issue as he is soon to become the party president,” Adityanath said here last night while campaigning for BJP candidate Jitendra Sukhadia at Gorva locality in Sayajigunj Assembly constituency. His remarks come in the wake of senior Congress leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal’s submission in the Supreme Court in the Ayodhya dispute case, that the matter be heard after July 2019, after the next Lok Sabha polls.Taking a dig at Gandhi over his visits to temples, the UP chief minister said he does not even know how to sit properly in a temple. He said under the UPA government, an affidavit had been filed in the Supreme Court over the Ram Setu case, which said that Lord Ram and Lord Krishna were imaginary.”If they are imaginary, then what is Rahul Gandhi doing in temples? His visits to temples is just a pretence,” he said.Accusing the Congress of trying to divide the people of Gujarat on communal lines, he urged the voters to defeat the party in the state elections.”Its defeat will coincide with Rahul Gandhi’s elevation as the party president. It will initiate the process of fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’,” he said. The development of Gujarat started after Modi became the chief minister of the state in 2001. He eliminated corruption from the system and concentrated only on the development of Gujarat, which has become a role model for the country, he said.”If Congress returns to power in Gujarat, the pace of development will take take a hit,” he said.According to him, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been following the Gujarat model of development.Adityanath claimed that infiltration from Pakistan stopped after Modi became the prime minister. He said, US President Donald Trump, during his presidential campaign, had said that if he gets elected, he would follow the example of Narendra Modi, “which shows that Modi has emerged as a global leader”.

EDMC proposes 3 new tax slabs for next financial year

The BJP-led East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has proposed to introduce three new taxes — professional (three slabs), betterment (15 per cent of property tax) and education cess (5 per cent) — in its budget for the 2018-19 financial year. While the party had promised to not increase or bring in new taxes in its manifesto, it has also proposed to hike the entertainment tax.East MCD commissioner Ranbir Singh said that with the introduction of new taxes, the cash-strapped civic body aims to earn revenue of around Rs 25 crores. The East civic body is the smallest of the three municipal corporations, having 64 wards only. However, the body has been struggling for funds since the trifurcation in 2012.The professional tax will be levied in three slabs — Rs 1,200, Rs 2,400, and Rs 2,500, if the taxes are approved by the House. The tax is proposed to be levied on individuals who have an annual income of Rs 5 lakh and above. This would generate Rs 5 crore, the commissioner said.”It is proposed that education cess of 5 per cent of property tax be charged. It would realise Rs 10 crore annually to the corporation. This amount would be used for education purpose. The betterment tax is proposed to be charged at the rate of 15 per cent of property tax. This will generate additional revenue of Rs 10 crore annually,” said Singh.

Bombay High Court verdict on RERA invites mixed reactions

Bombay High Court verdict confirming the constitutional validity of RERA has invited mixed reaction from the developer community. However, housing experts have welcomed the court’s verdict in the interest of house buyers. On Wednesday, Bombay HC rejected the pleas of certain developers challenging the validity of the RERA act. However, it allowed extension of time for handing possession if the delay is because of valid reasons.Niranjan Hiranandani, Head of NAREDCO, a national body of real estate developers said, “They have upheld the law, extension of time for valid reason beyond a year also has been allowed. The result is as expected.”Meanwhile, some developers said that they pursued the matter half-heartedly, as they had already predicted the outcome. “The result that came out is as expected. While RERA is good as an act, but then it is for rich developers.Take the case of Navi Mumbai. Most of the city was built by small and unorganized developers,” said Arvind Goel, of CREDAI-MCHI, Navi Mumbai. On the other hand housing experts have come in support of the order and have affirmed that the developers need not worry.

City builder Niranjan Hiranandani returns after 50 years

Remembering the days spent at Campion, Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, MD of Hiranandani group gave a speech at the event on the completion of 75 years of his school on Tuesday.Talking to DNA, Hiranandani said, “I finished my schooling and left Campion school in 1967 and have come to attend the platinum jubilee event after 50 years. I have tremendously fond memories of what I got educated in terms of how the school contributed to my character building. The school is consistently certified as the best school in the last five years. But I don’t think that’s the only thing that one looks at.The second part is that the people are taught to be good people and that unfortunately is not there in today’s education process and that’s what Campion brings to the table. I am taught what is good character, I am taught how should I have good leadership qualities. These character building qualities that the teachers inculcate make Campion what it is today. I think that is very critical in terms of education.”Recalling the time spent at school, Hiranandani further added, “I remember two stories of school days — when I was in secondary school and was walking one day in school premises, somebody came and hit my back very hard. I turned around to see if any boy was there and it was my Physical Training teacher. He said ‘Niranjan you are so tall and good, you should put your shoulders back and not walk with a hunch. Why are you walking with a hunch ?’.Even today whenever I hunch because I am tall, I remember my school teacher who taught me that I can’t walk without a hunch. So I stand erect today simply because I was not taught but educated.

Babri Masjid demolition day: Centre issues advisory, VHP to ‘celebrate’ in Ayodhya

Ahead of the anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid, the Centre has asked all states to remain cautious and ensure that there was peace and no incident of communal tension anywhere in the country. In a communication to the states and union territories, the Union home ministry urged them to deploy adequate security forces at sensitive places and maintain extra vigil so that attempts to disturb peace could be foiled, a ministry official said today. The 25th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition could lead to demonstrations, protests and dharna by “both communities”, the ministry said, without naming them.So precautionary measures have to be taken and utmost vigil and alertness maintained to ensure peace and communal harmony, the home ministry said in the advisory sent recently. The demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was followed by riots in which hundreds of people were killed. Home ministry officials said most of the state governments were expected to deploy additional forces in sensitive places, religious sites, markets, bus terminals and railway stations so that law and order could be maintained. On a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) call, entire Ayodhya will be decorated with ‘diyas’ on Wednesday to celebrate the silver jubilee anniversary of the Babri Mosque demolition. The VHP Spokesperson Sharad Sharma told DNA that grand celebrations are in store to mark the silver jubilee anniversary of Babri Mosque demolition. “All homes and temples in Ayodhya would be decorated with diyas and a torch procession would be taken out on Wednesday to celebrate the occasion,” said Sharma. The VHP has also organized Surya Sankalp Sabha at the Karsewakpuram to take a pledge for the construction of grand Ram temple at the disputed site. “Prominent sadhus and saints associated with the Ram temple movement will administer an oath to people to renew their pledge for the construction of the Ram temple at the earliest,” said the VHP Spokesperson. Sharma said that a unanimous decision was taken at the Dharm Sansad in Udipi (Karnataka) to construct Ram temple at the earliest. The Dharam Sansad had also made it clear that no mosque would be allowed near the temple, he added.“Our preparations are in full swing and we are only awaiting the Supreme Court final verdict to begin the construction of the Ram temple, clamed he. A booklet, containing matter related to Lord Ram birthplace, will also be released on the occasion. The same would be distributed across the country. Earlier, the Yogi Adityanath government had recreated Treta Yuga on the eve of Diwali by decorating Saryu ghats with 1.80 lakh diyas. The feat got a place in the Guinness Books of World Records. MLAs suggest time-bound redevelopment of old bldgs

In a bid to improve the condition of old cessed buildings, mostly located in south Mumbai, the housing committee of Mumbai MLAs suggested that a contractor, when being appointed for the redevelopment of these buildings, must give a time frame under which the work will be completed. In case the contractor fails to complete the work within the stipulated time, then he must be appropriately fined, they added. This is also an attempt to encourage residents to vacate the dilapidated buildings. The residents are currently hesitant to leave the buildings despite their dangerous conditions as they fear that if they leave, they will never return. The suggestion says that the concerned authority, MHADA, should take an undertaking from the contractor carrying out the redevelopment. It should state the period in which the project will be completed. If the contractor fails to complete the project in the specified period then he should be fined appropriately. This serves two purposes — a time frame is decided for the rehabilitation of the tenants and the confidence among the tenants of getting their homes back within a specific time is instilled.Other suggestions included that a committee of residents and MHADA officials be formed to keep a check on the quality of construction of the redevelopment project. The housing committee also recommended that MHADA should have a one window system for all permissions and approvals for the redevelopment of the old buildings.Arqam Shaikh of Arc Associates, an architecture firm dealing with redevelopment of cessed buildings, said, “The suggestions are good. There are many tenants who are ready to vacate the buildings too, trusting the developer or contractor, but then transit accommodations are far-off which is a hurdle. Residents do not want to go to a far-off place, especially not in the suburbs. Having a time frame will instill confidence among the tenants towards the developer and contractor.”

BJP’s victorious UP mayors to campaign in Gujarat

The BJP is all set to encash its UP civic poll performance in Gujarat by utilising newly elected mayors for campaigning in the poll-bound state. The BJP has won 14 out of 16 mayoral seats in civic polls in UP and all the newly elected leaders will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow to seek his blessings.Thereafter, they will proceed to Gujarat for campaigning for the Assembly elections there on December 9 and 14.”The newly elected mayors will meet the prime minister over tea tomorrow in Delhi. They are all devoted party workers and will be used where ever the party needs them,” BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak told PTI.Amethi Nagar Panchyat Chairperson Chandrama Devi and Jais Nagar Palika Parishad Mahesh Pratap will be among those who will be meeting Modi.Though Congress did not field any candidate in Amethi, the victory of a BJP candidate there is still considered a major blow to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as it is his parliamentary constituency and considered a Congress bastion. The Congress lost in Jais and Gauriganj where Nagar Palika polls were held. In Amethi and Musafirkhana, where Nagar Panchayat polls were held, the party had not fielded anyone. With the BJP’s extensive campaign in the local polls in UP paying off, the sweeping win is considered as a boost to the saffron party in the midst of the high-decibel campaign for the Gujarat elections.Counting of votes in Gujarat will be taken up on December 18.The UP civic elections were touted as the first litmus test of Yogi Adityanath after the BJP stormed to power in March. The saffron surge routed the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, both of which drew a blank in mayoral polls.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has been drafted as the key campaigner in Gujarat and went on a nearly 90-day whirlwind tour of the state, described it as a “historic win”.He attributed the victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and BJP chief Amit Shah’s able guidance and added that the BJP will now look forward to achieving the goal of one hundred per cent success in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.”The victory of party has sent positive message among the people who are already admirers of Narendra Modiji. There is a significant population of people from east UP in Gujarat,” said BJP leader and state spokesman Shalabh Mani Tripathi, who is campaigning in Gujarat for the past one month.”Yogiji is already a star campaigner and our newly elected mayors with their success stories will add to our ongoing campaigning here,” Tripathi said.

9 lakh seniors give up ticket subsidy in 3 months, Railways saves Rs 40 crore

Over nine lakh senior citizens have voluntarily given up their ticket subsidies under the ‘give up’ scheme of the Railways, thereby helping the transport behemoth save around Rs 40 crore.Under the scheme launched last year, senior citizens had the option to either avail the full concession provided to them on rail tickets or forgo the entire amount. This year, a new option was added in which a senior citizen can give up 50 per cent of the subsidy. The scheme was launched to reduce the nearly Rs 1,300 crore subsidy burden of the Railways in the senior citizen category. From July 22 to October 22, 2.16 lakh men and 2.67 lakh women gave up their full subsidy, while 2.51 lakh men and 2.05 lakh women decided not to avail 50 per cent of their subsidy – making the total number of passengers over 60 years to give up their subsidy at 9.39 lakh in three months. During the same period last year, only about 4.68 lakh senior citizens gave up their subsidies – 2.35 lakh men and 2.33 lakh women. Also readRailway’s safety wing being strengthened, train accidents down by 40%: Ashwani Lohani”The figures show that the number of people letting forgoing the subsidy has doubled in one year. It is great news for Railways as we are looking to reduce our losses incurred through subsidies,” said a senior official of the ministry. As of now, Railways bears 43 per cent of the cost of train fare and incurs a loss of about Rs 30,000 crore a year in subsidising passenger fares out of which Rs 1,600 crore is for concessional fares. Railways recovers only 57 per cent of the expenses incurred for passenger transportation through sale of tickets of all classes.

Gujarat Elections 2017 | Padmavati ban for women’s honour: Vijay Rupani

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday said Padmavati movie was banned to keep the honour of women intact.Addressing BJP women workers’ convention in Rajkot on Saturday, he said, “The film release was stopped in the state as the character of Padmavati, who represents Indian culture and the pride of women in India was presented in a bad shape in the film. It also does not present the character of the queen in a proper manner. In Gujarat, we respect women.”He added, “The filmmaker tweaked the history by playing with the sentiments of people which cannot be tolerated. Oil India attempts to improve fate with black gold

Oil India has failed to find oil in Rajasthan for years and now it is dreaming to make its fate with black gold in the sand dunes. After twenty-six years, it will again try to extract oil with the help of German technology in Jaisalmer’s Baghewala oil field. Oil India has got the permission from government to extract oil with the new technology. This time the company is planning to start commercial production.Six years ago, the company had tried to melt oil in the well with steam technology with the help of experts from Venezuela, but this technique proved ineffective. Oil India has claimed to have heavy oil in two wells but it has not been duly exploited. On the other hand, the same type of oil was found in the Barmer basin and experts from Cairn have been producing two million barrels of oil every day with steam technology for the last seven years. After the seismic survey near Jaisalmer border in 1991, oil India in Rajasthan started drilling oil wells to explore oil in Tanot and Baghevala. There were indications that thick oil was present in two wells in Baghevala. Though oil was found after deep digging but experts were not able to exploit the same.Efforts were made to call foreign experts from abroad thrice, however, the oil could not be exploited. After failing every time, Oil India has started its efforts again so that they could begin exploiting large quantities of oil with the help of Germany’s cyclic steam simulation technology and commercial production can start.

The loss in elections is due to dynastic politics,’ Shehzad told ANI.Continuing his criticism of the grand old party, Poonawalla alleged that the organisation did not value merit as much as family relations or a ‘sycophant of the dynasty.’ He also claimed that if the Congress got rid of dynasty politics, there would be a 30 percent surge in the number of seats won by them. Also readAhead of Rahul’s impending elevation, Congress leader says party’s presidential election is riggedPoonawalla also opined that rather than blaming any other factors, the Congress must accept defeat on grounds of their leadership not being strong enough.‘The Congress leadership should not blame EVM or any other factor, but review their leadership, as this is what victory or defeat should be based on. Congress minus dynasty will get 30 percent more votes. Even in the upcoming polls in Gujarat, Congress will get 150 seats if they end dynasty politics.’ he said.Earlier this week, Poonawalla had claimed that the poll process to choose the Congress president was stacked in Rahul’s favour just because he belongs to the Gandhi family.”Raising an issue nobody in my party – the Congress will have guts to raise- my conscience will not allow me to stay quiet anymore on Dynasty/ sycophancy,” he tweeted.Poonawalla had also told the media earlier that he would want to contest the party president election if it was conducted in a genuine manner. However, he has been receiving flak from his party members, including accusations of him not being a Congressman.Responding to the same, he categorically stated that he was a ‘Congressman for life,’ and alleged that such comments were a result of the party fearing Rahul Gandhi’s defeat, “even in a rigged election.”

On a day, when the political heavyweights were closely watching the results of Uttar Pradesh civic polls, the Congress was looking at it for an extra mileage for party’s last-minute campaigning in Gujarat. However, much to its embarrassment, the Congress faced a massive loss in its stronghold in UP.The party got its biggest electoral jolt after the BJP won the Amethi Nagar Panchayat by over a 1,000 votes. The Lok Sabha constituency of Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the results in Amethi will now give more smiles to the BJP.Even in his post-victory speech, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath slammed the Congress and said the results were an eye-opener for those linking these polls to Gujarat Aseembly elections.Without taking any name, CM Yogi said that those who were thinking of Gujarat faced a rout in the civic polls. ‘Unka safaya ho gaya,’ said CM Yogi. The Congress will now have to rethink its strategy in Gujarat as simply put, the massive victory will help BJP in upcoming Assembly elections. The municipal elections were held for 16 Nagar Nigams, 198 Nagar Palika Parishads and 438 Nagar Panchayats across Uttar Pradesh. UP civic polls result will influence Gujarat Assembly elections, Lok Sabha Polls 2019

The result of the Uttar Pradesh civil polls on Friday will have a bearing on the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly elections and Lok Sabha polls 2019. The civil polls were held for over 198 nagar palika parishads (municpal council), 438 muncipal boards (nagar panchayats) and 16 municipal corporation (nagar nigams) in 75 districts. Around 3.3 crore have exercised their voting rights with 79,113 candidates. This poll is a big test for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after an emphatic win during Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Now, the result of civil polls will reveal whether his hardline Hindutva image has gone down well with the voters of the state or not. The Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress, which forged an alliance in the 2017 Lok Sabha elections, have contested separately this time. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has also fought for the election, however, Mayawati has not campaigned for the polls. Unlike Mayawati, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has also taken a back seat with no serious campaigning to win over the voters.Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat assembly electionsThe results come at a time when BJP and Congress are in for a big showdown for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections. Both the parties have held massive campaigns and rallies lead by Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi across Gujarat.Rahul Gandhi’s rally have been in the midst of his religion controversy and his obvious visits to the temples. Rahul had tried to hold the Congress’ fort after mother and chief Sonia Gandhi laid low due to health concerns and has been a lone leader ever since leading the Gujarat polls. After being ridiculed by BJP many times for his “not-so-powerful statements”, he is now seen trying hard to gain the trust of the people. Rahul appears a lot more confident these days and this has helped boost the morale of the party workers. However, standing against Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will be tough competition.BJP’s popularity scaleThe result will either boost the moral of the saffron party or it will simply give them a heads up for the big game ahead.Political observers said that the result of this election will somewhat divulge the mindset of the voters for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This result will also be crucial for the BJP as it will reveal the voters trust and faith in the saffron party for the big game.

Day after voting ends for UP civic polls, Adityanath govt hikes power tariff by 12%

A day after urban bodies’ polls, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh gave an electrical shock to people of the state increasing the power tariff by 12%.Announcing the hike in the tariff, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Authority (UPERC) Chairman SK Agarawl said that against the demand of 22% hike, the authority has allowed only overall 12% hike. The UPERC has, however, kept the industries out of the power tariff hike. The worst affected are the rural consumers who will have to shell 63% more than what they were paying now. Commercial and urban consumers will have to pay 9.89% and 8.49% more. The cap for the subsidized tariff of 150 units for BPL consumers has been reduced to 100 units. Now they will have to pay Rs 3 for first 100 units and above that Rs 4.90. The worst affected are the rural consumers who were enjoying unmetered power at the rate of Rs 180 per month fixed rental charges will have to install metres or they will be asked to pay Rs 600-700 per month. The unmetered commercial traiif in rural areas has been hiked from Rs 600 to Rs 1000.Though industries have been kept out of the hike but farmers were not spared. They will have to pay Rs 150 per bhp against Rs 100 charged earlier. The new tariff plan has also given a jolt to urban consumers. They will have to pay Rs 4.90 per unit for first 150 units against Rs 3 per unit earlier, Rs 5.40 for 150 to 300 units slab and Rs 6.20 per unit 300 to 500 slab. Above 500 units, they will end paying Rs 6.50 per unit. Also readWhy Uttar Pradesh civic polls will impact Assembly elections in Gujarat Similarly, commercial power tariff in urban areas has been hiked to Rs 7 per unit for first 300 units and Rs 8 for 300 to 1000 units. The fixed charge has also been increased from Rs 200 to 300. The power department is running huge losses to the tune of Rs 75,000 crores and was desperate to seek tariff hike to fulfil the promise of the Yogi Aityanath government to make available power in every villages by October 2018 under Power for All Mission. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation was losing Rs 22.50 crore per day due to power theft and lines losses which about 30% against national average of 15%. There are about 88 lakh katia (illegal) connections across state. To check power theft and reduce line losses, the department has proposed to install metres in every rural and urban household to bridge gap between the power supplied and revenue collected.

Be fair to even those who didn’t vote for you: Prez Kovind urges legislators

President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday urged legislators to be the true representatives of people by being fair to the entire constituency, and not just those who voted for them.Addressing a special session of the Mizoram Assembly, Kovind said a legislator equally represents those who did not vote for him or opposed him.The president said a rival in an election was a political competitor and not an enemy, and ideally, the functioning of the legislature should be marked by dignity and decorum. The political system should not allow differences to become disputes, he said.”After the election, the competitor could become a colleague in the task of ensuring the well-being and development of a constituency, of the state and of the country,” he said.Appealing to legislators to uphold the beauty of a democratic polity, Kovind said, “I am glad to see that this philosophy has such an instinctive acceptance in Mizoram.”

Gujarat elections 2017: Hardik Patel under EC scanner

PAAS leader Hardik Patel has been addressing rallies one after another across Gujarat, although he was not given permission for that. The EC has been taking this act of Patel leader very seriously and legal actions can be taken against him. The commission is also keeping a tab over every word spoken by Patel community leader in his rally. The chief electoral officer in Gujarat BB Swain said in press conference on Wednesday. He said, “Permission should be taken by the competent authority for holding any rally. If Hardik Patel does not get the permission from authority and holds a rally, we would ask the authority to take appropriate actions. The supervising teams of election commission record every political rally across Gujarat and there is a huge team for that. If Hardik Patel makes any statement that could provoke sentiments of people, the concerned authorities are capable of initiate actions against him. If the matter comes to us, we would seek footages of the rally from the concerned district authority.””If Hardik Patel makes the statement favouring any party’s candidate, the expense of the rally would go into account of the concerned candidate. Our team engaged in surveillance would also look after this aspect,” added Swain.
