Absconding budding cricketer ‘Dhoni’ held for murder

The Delhi Police have arrested Vijay, a district-level budding cricketer known by the name Dhoni for copying the player’s style, for his involvement in a murder last year. The Delhi University graduate has been evading arrest by changing his locations and cell phone numbers frequently, police said.According to senior police officers, Dhoni was arrested by a team of special staff, Dwarka, led by sub-inspector Naveen Kumar. On July 17 last year, a man was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre with grievous injuries. He was later identified as Aakash, who succumbed to his injuries. His brother Sunny said that local criminals — Vijay alias Dhoni, Vishal, Ajeet, Lakshman, Gaurav, and Deepak — assaulted his brother with iron rods and sticks. During the probe, Dhoni and his brother Vishal managed to abscond while others were nabbed.Dwarka DCP Shibesh Singh said it that it has been ascertained that the criminals were active members of the infamous Gaurav Jhareda gang. Analysis of call details of several numbers linked to the absconding members were scanned to get a clue regarding their whereabouts.”Surveillance was also put in place and several persons were interrogated. The duo had switched off their mobile phones. Raids were conducted at all possible hideouts in Delhi-NCR and Haryana but the accused were constantly changing their locations and mobile numbers. On Sunday, acting on a tip-off that that both the accused would come near the Dwarka Metro station on a scooter to meet someone, a trap was laid and both were nabbed,” the DCP said.Interrogation revealed that Dhoni was fond of cricket and represented school and college teams at district level. He wanted to be a cricketer and was a fan of ex-Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni.”He adopted the cricketer’s and soon was known as Dhoni in the area. But when he could not enter the Delhi State Cricket Team, he joined his brother, who was already an active member of the Gaurav Jhareda gang. In 2014, he and Vishal were arrested with Gaurav Jhareda in a case of attempt to murder in Delhi Cantonment. He along with his associates assaulted and seriously injured one Amit alias Suraj Bhan in July 2016. A few days later, both the accused brutally murdered Aakash using iron rods and sticks with the help of their associates following an argument,” the officer added.

NGT slams Delhi government, asks why Kotla match held

India’s top environment court pulled up the AAP government on Monday for inadequate action on pollution and criticised authorities for holding the India-Sri Lanka Test in the city despite bad air quality. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had sought a comprehensive action plan on ways to deal with severe air pollution. On Monday, the Delhi government sought more time, but the tribunal said the report must be filed within the next 48 hours. On Sunday, the match being played at the Feroz Shah Kotla had to be halted for 17 minutes after Sri Lankan players complained of poor air quality. Their coach Nic Pothas said players vomited, and oxygen cylinders had been kept in the dressing room.”Every newspaper has been carrying headline that air pollution was going to be higher this week. Still you took no action. Even the players were playing match wearing masks. You should have not held the match if the air quality was so bad. Are people of Delhi supposed to bear this?” the NGT said.It said that the pollution in the city has already reached alarming levels yet the government was adopting a lackadaisical approach in dealing with the situation.”Where is your action plan? Why have you not submitted it? What can we do if you keep on changing everybody? It’s not our problem if people don’t want to stick to you. You keep on doing meetings but tell us a single action or step you have taken in the last four days to combat air pollution,” the NGT said.(With PTI inputs)

Presence of cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the chief guest was a major attraction,” said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, Defence spokesman at Srinagar. The match also marked the culmination of a busy cricketing season in the Valley spread over the last six months at various locations. The championship was aimed at providing cricket lovers a platform to showcase their talent. The tourney drew tremendous response with 110 teams participating in it.”32 young cricketers, selected from all parts of Kashmir after exhaustive trials, comprised the two teams. All the teams that participated in run up to today’s event were presented with a bat autographed by Dhoni,” said Colonel.Meanwhile, some youth raised slogans in favour of Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi and azadi outside the stadium when they were not able to enter to watch the match and have a glimpse of Dhoni. DDCA audit finds fraud, but whitewashes Arun Jaitley

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A forensic audit, ordered by the Delhi High Court-appointed administrator Justice (retd) Vikramjit Sen, has unearthed a Rs 14-crore fraud in the functioning of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) between 2012 and 2015.Auditors have found double entries, fictitious payments, unauthorised loans, nepotism and favouritism — among other reasons — for the massive financial embezzlement. The report has indicted former DDCA president Sneh Bansal and former secretary Anil Khanna for purchasing match tickets with cheques from the association without the knowledge of the Executive Committee. But there is no mention of Arun Jaitley, who remained DDCA president between 1999 and 2013.This has led former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi and 1983 World Cup winning team member Kirti Azad to call for a forensic audit of his tenure, which included the construction period of Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium between 2002 and 2008, and also when subvention money along with TV rights money of IPL were received from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), between 2008 and 2012.Jaitley had washed his hands of the issue during a probe by the Serious Fraud Investigation Organisation (SFIO) by saying, “I was a mere non-executive president of DDCA and I had nothing to do with the day-to-day functioning of DDCA”.DNA, in its report on January 15, 2016, had cited minutes of various DDCA meetings which went on to show that during his tenure Jaitley not only was in control of DDCA affairs, but also attended the meetings held at various venues, including his office premises at Udyog Bhawan (during his tenure as Minister of Commerce & Industry and Law & Justice in the NDA government).”Public should know how its money is being spent so lavishly on building a lousy stadium in the Indian capital,” said Azad.”Kotla stadium was started with an estimate of Rs 24 crore which first went up to Rs 57 crore before finishing at Rs 141 crore or even more,” Azad added. The BCCI has not been releasing DDCA’s share of subvention money, Rs 100 crore approximately, for the last three years amid complaints by Delhi cricketers’ body. The reason given for this was that DDCA had not been filing its balance sheets with the Registrar of Companies.”We are waiting for the CBI or Delhi Police to act on our complaints. Hopefully, this forensic report will nail these officials who have ripped DDCA apart. It hurts to see talented boys sweating it out in the heat and cold, whereas the administrators are busy lining their pockets,” said Azad.Audit FindingsThe forensic audit report found that at DDCA’s expense, officials purchased tickets worth Rs 2.3 crores, of Rs 130 each. Out of this, Rs 75 lakh of IPL tickets were shown to be issued to government officials and DDCA Executive Committee members and tickets of Rs 1.01 crore during an India vs West Indies ODI. Another instance shows how, between April 30 and June 8, 2012, a sum of Rs 44 lakh was withdrawn and used for purchase of IPL tickets despite the fact that DDCA receives complimentary tickets from ticket vendors such as GMR.

Attack on Australian team bus: 2 suspects arrested, Assam Chief Minister orders probe

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>In the wake of attack on the Australian cricket team bus in Guwahati on Tuesday night, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday directed state’s Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia to initiate an inquiry into the matter.A rock was allegedly thrown at the Australian team bus as they returned to the team hotel from the Barsapara Cricket Stadium following their eight-wicket win in the second T20I of the three-match series in Guwahati.Sonowal also called on Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Sahay to immediately nab the culprits.”Sports Minister, Chief Secretary and DGP were directed to meet the Australian players and convey state government concern and the immediate measures taken after the incident,? the Assam Chief Minister further said.Earlier in the day, Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also condemned the incident.Taking to Twitter, Rathore said that the stone-throwing incident in Guwahati was not reflective of the country’s security measures.”Guwahati stone-throwing incident NOT reflective of our security measures. Aus team & FIFA are content w/those. India remains a graceful host,” Rathore, who replaced Vijay Goel as the Sports Minister earlier this year, tweeted.”Have spoken to Sarbanand Sonwal ji about the Guwahati incident. Personal security of visiting athletes & teams is extremely important for us,” he added.Australian opener Aaron Finch has earlier tweeted a picture of a broken window saying, “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!”The rock, believed to be roughly the size of a cricket ball, was thrown at a window on the right-hand side of the bus, while it was returning from the stadium. It should be noted that no injuries were caused to any of the players or the support staff. In a similar incident, a small rock or stone was thrown at the Australian team’s bus in September in Chittagong during their two-Test series against Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) at that time had immediately increased security for the Australian team to ensure there were no further mishaps.India and Australia will now head to Hyderabad to lock horns in the series-decider T20 match of the three-match series, which is to be played on October 13 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Ashutosh moves Delhi court seeking Arun Jaitley to testify in Hindi in defamation case

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The former journalist, who has himself been putting forth AAP’s views in Hindi and English news channels with equal elan, moved the plea before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat, saying Jaitely be directed to testify again, now in Hindi, as the law mandated. He claimed that as per law, the proceedings in Delhi courts should be conducted in either English or Hindi whichever language the litigants and counsel can understand.Ashutosh has also sought video and audio recordings of the court proceedings while referring to the earlier hearing in which chaotic scenes were witnessed after a lawyer had allegedly threatened another counsel inside the courtroom. The court reserved the order on the pleas for October 27.It also granted exemption to Kejriwal, AAP leader Raghav Chadha and others from personal appearance for the day after they referred to their political engagements.Jaitley had on August 5 charged Kejriwal with making a series of false, scandalous and defamatory allegations, with regard to the alleged controversy, claiming that it had adversely affected his reputation.Kejriwal and others had accused Jaitley of financial irregularities in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) of which he was the president from 2000 to 2013, leading the minister to lodge defamation cases against them.Kejriwal, Ashutosh, Chaddha, along with other AAP leaders Sajay Singh, Kumar Vishwas and Deepak Bajpai, were on March 25 put on trial in the case. The notice was framed against the accused under section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the IPC to which they had pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.Jaitley had filed the complaint alleging that the accused had defamed him in a controversy regarding Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) which he headed for over a decade.A civil defamation suit was also filed by Jaitley before the Delhi High Court in the matter seeking Rs 10 crore as damages.

RCA land cancellation fuels political row

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The association that manages the affairs of the gentlemen’s game lives up to its reputation of being the hotbed of political controversy. The fresh one is related to Jaipur Development Authority cancelling the allotment of land to Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The roughly 18 hectare land at Chonp village some 25 km from Jaipur was allotted to RCA in 2013 for construction of a world class stadium. The cancellation order issued by the JDA cites ‘non compliance of terms and conditions of allotment’ as the reason for the cancellation. The association was supposed to have organised an inetnational match in the stadium within five years of allotment, however construction has not yet started at the spot. The decision to cancel the allotment has not gone well with the current president of RCA and Congress stalwart, CP Joshi. He has questioned the intent of the government and urged Union minister of sports Rajyavardhan Rathore to intervene and get the decision changed. Incidentally the land falls Rathore’s constituency, Jaipur Rural.“The state needs a world class stadium. Major time that has lapsed has been of Lalit Modi tenure. We expect the government to review its decision,” he said speaking to DNA. “The union minister of sports represents the area where the stadium was to come up. He is an Olympian and understands the need of world class sporting infrastructure. He is from the state and must intervene and initiate a review,” Joshi added. Joshi also went on to flay the state government, “So much talk about promoting sports and tourism and the ground action so contrary to talk,” he said. Incidentally, Joshi who had been MP from the same constituency that Rathore now represents and the land also falls under the same. The cancellation has handed Joshi a chance to score political score too.

Ombudsman revokes RS Nandu’s suspension

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>In a legal victory of sorts for the Lalit Modi group and a major embarrassment for President C P Joshi led-Rajasthan Cricket Association, the suspension of RS Nandu from the post of secretary has been revoked by RCA Ombudsman retired justice Gyansudha Mishra.Justice Mishra, while referring to the provisions of Lodha Committe recommendations and the RCA constitution, said in the order that suspension of a duly elected Secretary of the RCA cannot be given effect to and hence be treated as non est.On suspension of the Nagaur District Cricket Association , justice Mishra opined in her order that in the light of Lodha Committee Report and also the RCA Constitution, the disaffiliation of the Nagaur District Cricket Association was not within the exclusive legal domain of the Secretary Nagaur District Cricket Association, but is the collective responsibility of all the members of the RCA which is clearly reflected from Article 28 of the RCA Constitution as also from Clause 41 of the Lodha Committee Report. It may be mentioned here that Nandu was suspended by Joshi on June 234.She also ordered to convene a general body meeting in which the fate of the Nagaur District Cricket Association and the future course of action shall depend on the resolution which is going to be passed in that meeting. The meeting shall be conducted in presence of an observer P.S Hada (retired District & Sessions Judge).

Ombudsman directs RCA convene AGM to resolve impending issues

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Ombudsman justice Gyanshudha Mishra on Tuesday directed the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) to convene the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to resolve the issue of suspension of the Nagaur District Cricket Association and RCA secretary RS Nandu. Although no date has been announced for convening the AGM, a 21-day prior notice is required for the meeting. The Ombudsman’s directive during the meeting of the executive committee and district office-bearers.The entire issue relating to impasse in the RCA and its reentry in the BCCI would depend on the outcome of the AGM. The meeting, which was held at the SMS Stadium premises reportedly witnessed fierce exchanges between people loyal to RCA President CP Joshi and presently suspended Lalit Modi. Amin Pathan who was once a staunch loyalist of Modi had heated arguments with Mehmood Abdi, former deputy president of RCA. Sources informed that the issue being discussed was removal of Modi from the Nagaur District Cricket Association which was raised by Pathan. He demanded that Modi be removed so that the ban on RCA can be lifted by the BCCI. However, Abdi argued that the RCA set up has no legal mandate to sack or suspend any individual or association. He said such action can only be taken by the AGM and demanded the BCCI letter should be put before the AGM. The fracas forced Ombudsman Gyansudha Mishra to caution both the sides. She said instead of arguing with one and another, the members to address their problems to her.Later speaking to media, Joshi said that he wanted that the BCCI ban should be lifted as his main priority was that cricket should return to state. In the meeting almost all the office-bearers of the districts were present. The lawyers from both sides were also present who explained the points relating to legal issues during meeting. Notably, to resolve the internal disputes of RCA, Ombudsman had called the meeting on Tuesday.

Court order deals blow to Joshi-led RCA

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>In a major setback to C P Joshi-led Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), the Jaipur bench of Rajasthan High Court has not only ordered the reinstatement of RCA Ombudsman former justice Gyansudha Mishra and ethics officer Pana Chand Jain but also said the current dispensation has committed the contempt of court. On the basis of an application filed by RCA treasurer Pinkesh Jain, who belongs to the Lalit Modi group, the court set aside the letter issued to Ombudsman Gyansudha Mishra and ethics officer Pana Chand Jain by joint secretary Mahendra Nahar who is officiating as the secretary, calling it unlawful. The court said both the officers were working on the orders of the Supreme Court and such an act of Nahar comes under the contempt of the court. The court ordered both the officers to resume their posts and also ordered that contempt petition may be filed by parties against RCA officers who issued such letter. The decision is being seen as a shot in the arm for the Lalit Modi group as now all the RCA disputes will be settled by ombudsman. The single bench of justice JK Ranka was hearing the petition filed by Rampal Sharma.During the hearing court has also ordered JDA to file an affidavit about sports grounds not being used for non-sports activities.Along with this, the bench has also ordered the law department to complete the process it had adopted to implement the Lodha committee recommendations on other sports also .During the hearing, the government informed the court about the steps it is taking to implement the Lodha committee recommendations in the state .It informed that Justice NK Jain committee had been formed for amendments to be made in the Sports Act.SHOT IN THE ARMThe court ordered both the officers to resume their posts and also ordered that contempt petition may be filed by parties against Rajasthan Cricket Association officers who issued such letter. The decision is being seen as a shot in the arm for the Lalit Modi group as now all the RCA disputes will be settled by ombudsman.

RCA to move court again for BCCI case withdrawal

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has once again approached the court with fresh application to withdraw the case against BCCI.The RCA, this time, has also submitted a letter written by its President CP Joshi authorising Mahendra Nahar in this regard. The court will hear the application on July 13.It must be mentioned that on Monday, the additional district court number 4 had rejected the RCA’s plea to withdraw the case against BCCI, saying that joint secretary of RCA Mahendra Nahar who is currently working as acting secretary was not authorised to take such decision.Court while giving the order said that RCA executive committee had appointed Nahar as acting secretary only for withdrawing the case.He does not have the right to take such decision as he was not authorised by general body. Hence, the application letter was rejected by the court.Notably on June 24, in its first meeting of the executive committee headed by the newly-elected president Joshi, the RCA had suspended Lalit Modi-led Nagaur District Cricket Association’s membership. It had also suspended RS Nandhu (secretary of Nagaur District Cricket Association) who was the elected secretary of RCA in the recently held elections. After removing Nandhu, Nahar was given the charge of secretary. However, cricket experts, who have been observing the ongoing tussle in the RCA, say that unless the Nagaur District Cricket Association and its secretary Nandhu are suspended through a proper procedure laid down in the sports act this stalemate will continue.“They could have avoided the suspension issue in the first meeting as it has only complicated the situation,” an office-bearer of a district association told DNA.He said the BCCI ban can be revoked if both the groups put aside their differences and sit together to work out an amicable solution.REJECTED PLEAThe additional district court had rejected the RCA’s plea to withdraw the case against BCCI, saying that joint secretary of RCA Mahendra Nahar who is currently working as acting secretary was not authorised to take such decision.Court while giving the order said that RCA executive committee had appointed Nahar as acting secretary only for withdrawing the case.

Lifting of BCCI ban: RCA first needs to curate it’s own pitch

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) faces a long and arduous road to get the ban lifted by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) despite getting a positive response from the country’s top cricketing body. The first roadblock is the withdrawal of the cases filed against BCCI by RCA under the previous regime of Lalit Modi. The BCCI wants that the cases be withdrawn. However, only RCA secretary is authorised to take such decisions as most of the administrative work of the RCA is conducted by the secretary. The problem has become more complicated as the newly-elected office-bearers of the RCA have suspended the secretary Rajendra Singh Nandhu also along with Nagaur District Cricket Association.“I met the officials of BCCI and they will issue a letter to RCA, after that only I can say something”, Nandhu told DNA when asked about the next course of action the RCA would take to get the ban lifted. Not only Nandhu but also Sanjay Dixit and others were sent by RCA to present the case before the BCCI. Therefore, the cricket observers are pointing out that unless both the groups unite, the simple action of withdrawing the cases cannot be initiated.Secondly, the new RCA regime has removed all the previous legal professionals and appointed a new team. However sources said that the new team is yet to take the charge. In such a case if a decision is taken to withdraw the cases, the new team will need the time to study all the details. Moreover, there is also a petition filed by the players against the ban by BCCI on RCA to protect the interest of the players in the state. This issue also needs to be settled, the sources said.Thirdly, BCCI itself is currently passing through turbulent times. A committee of administrators has been running the day-to-day affairs of BCCI instead of the elected members. The committee is headed by Vinod Rai. Ramchandra Guha, a member of the committee, has already quit. Therefore, such vexed issue doesn’t look like to be resolved quickly.Meanwhile the dispute around the locking of doors of RCA continued on Tuesday. Secretary RS Nandhu met Sports Council secretary Narain Singh and informed him about the change in the guard of RCA and the closing and opening of RCA locks. Earlier on Tuesday morning locks which were closed were opened and staffers of RCA arrived in the office. Vice President of RCA Mohammed Iqubal also came to the office followed by Nandhu.Raj bowler selected for NCA camp in BangloreRajasthan’s left hand fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been selected for the National Cricket Academy (NCA) camp which is being organised in Bangalore. Currently Under 23 Camp conducted by BCCI is being organised from June 26 and it will run till July 22. Khaleel will be part of the players selected on the country basis for this prestigious camp.

When you are saying you want no relationship with Pakistan, why are you permitting them to pay international matches? I think the Government of India is confused about the current relationship with Pakistan,” congress leader Meem Afzal told ANI.Vehemently opposing the intermixing of sports and politics, Congress leader Tom Vadakkan said the Centre needs to draw limitations, keeping in mind the larger interests of the people.”Do not restrict drawing red lines just to sports,” he added.Ahead of the big clash between India and Pakistan in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, the BJP chief categorically stated that India and Pakistan will not feature in any bilateral cricket series but would continue to participate in international tournaments.”India, Pakistan will continue to play at international tournaments but neither India will play in Pakistan nor Pakistan will play in India,” said Shah. The comment from the BJP president came days after Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel had said cricket series between the two countries was not feasible until cross-border terrorism stops.”BCCI should come out with a proposal on Pakistan only after consultations with the government. I have already made it clear that any bilateral series with Pakistan is almost impossible because there cannot be sports relations between the two countries until there is terrorism from the Pakistani side,” Goel has said last month in the national capital.”Sports and terrorism cannot go hand in hand,” he added.Goel, however, added that there was no control of the government on multilateral games. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had earlier last month sent a legal notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for failing to honour the MoU signed between the two cricket boards in 2014.The PCB had also demanded compensation close to US $60 million from the BCCI for not honouring the MoU signed when N. Srinivasan was at the helm of affairs in the Indian board.According to the 2014 agreement, India were scheduled to play six series against Pakistan, four of them were going to be Pakistan’s home series, subject to clearance from the Government of India. The two Asian neighbours have not played a full bilateral series after the Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008.

First priority would be to get suspension lifted: RCA chief

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Veteran Congress leader CP Joshi, who piped Ruchir Modi to recapture the president’s post of Rajasthan Cricket Association, today took over charge and reiterated that his immediate priority would be to get the BCCI’s suspension lifted. Joshi, who had to withdraw against Lalit Modi in the previous elections about four years ago after he was deserted by own supporters, was clearly a pleased person after beating the 22-old-year-old Ruchir Modi. “I will have to look into every aspect of this suspension but this would be my first priority. But for this I need support from all quarters including the state government,” said Joshi. While Joshi claimed that there were no groups in RCA, the cracks in ranks have already started appearing after the elections. The two key posts, secretary and treasurer, which were wrested by Modi faction, had taken charge without waiting for Joshi. The secretary RS Nandu, a close supporter of Lalit Modi, was not present in the function where Joshi was welcomed by likes of former RCA president and secretary Sanjay Dixit and former MP Lalchand Kataria. Though Nandu has cited personal reasons behind his absence, insiders say these were signs of storm growing up in the RCA. It might be recalled that the RCA was suspended by BCCI because it had chosen Lalit Modi as its president in the previous elections despite warnings from the apex cricket body of the country.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

RCA elections held, results to be declared after Court order

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The polling process in the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections was over today but the sealed ballot boxes have been kept in the government treasury until the High Court gives further directive. Former RCA president Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir is fighting against senior Congress leader CP Joshi, who has also been an ex-president. The polling for the six posts as per the Lodha Committee recommendations did not take much time as there are only 33 district cricket associations, who have the voting right in accord with the Sports Act prevailing in the state. While both Joshi faction and Modi Group are claiming victory, the court order dampened the spirits of supporters and the Ballot boxes were sealed until the court orders the result to be declared. But before this a lot of drama took place. The ombudsman appointed for the elections, Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra requested the High Court to keep the ballot boxes in its custody. The court refused to do so and asked the Ombudsman herself to look after the security of boxes. It was learned that the boxes were later taken to government treasury. Meanwhile both the group may move court against the decision to keep the ballot boxes in the government treasury.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Ruchir Modi denies role in cancellation of RCA elections

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Downplaying C.P. Joshi?s allegation that the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections were cancelled on Lalit Modi?s son Ruchir Modi’s accord, the latter on Friday denied his involvement in the aforementioned development. Ruchir said the RCA elections were controlled by the election officer of Rajasthan and monitored by an ex-Supreme Court judge, adding it was not in his purview to intervene in the functioning of the state cricket association. ?Many people have said that I have somehow engineered the cancellation of the RCS elections. The elections are controlled by the election officer of Rajasthan, who has cancelled the elections in his own wisdom,? said Ruchir. ?So, it?s preposterous to say that I got the elections cancelled. The election officer of Rajasthan has taken the decision and in this case, he is being overseen by the justice of order, in this case, ombudsman an ex-Supreme Court judge,? he added. The elections of the Rajasthan Cricket Association slated for April 26 were stalled on the ground that the provisions of the state Sports Act do not conform with the recommendations of the Lodha Committee under the aegis of which these polls were scheduled to take place. Election Officer A.K. Pandey called off the elections late on Saturday night, citing since the Registrar of the Co-operative Society has refused to ratify the amendments in the Constitution of the RCA, all poll-related proceedings would be stopped.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Shunglu panel report: Cong demands Kejriwal resign

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Latching onto findings of Shunglu committee, the Congress asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to step down from his post immediately and demanded the Centre initiate a CBI probe into the panel’s report. DPCC chief Ajay Maken charged the AAP-led government of engaging into nepotism and corruption by allegedly allotting public land and properties to the ruling party, its MLAs and relatives and friends of state ministers. The party has also demanded a Supreme Court-directed CBI probe against AAP. A copy of the report in his possession, Maken directed his attack towards Kejriwal in particular, stating the latter allegedly posted and promoted his kin Nikunj Agarwal in health ministry and sent him on foreign tours at government’s expenses “flouting rules”. Maken also flagged the issue of the state government allotting a minister’s bungalow for the AAP to set up its office and giving residential accommodation to DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal. Referring to the report, he questioned appointment of health minister Satyender Jain’s daughter as mission director of Delhi State Health Mission. Maken alleged the state government appointed AAP functionaries on Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC) and as advisors to ministers, allegedly paying hefty salaries ranging from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh through public exchequer. “The friends and relatives of AAP leaders are being promoted and posted. What is this if not nepotism? “If Kejriwal has an iota of conscience, he should resign from his post immediately…the matter be probed by CBI,” Maken insisted. Recalling Kejriwal had leveled charges of irregularities in Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), led by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley till 2013, Maken said there is no difference between AAP’s DDC and the cricket body. “…what were the irregularities in DDCA? Nepotism. There is no difference between Kejriwal’s DDC and Jaitley’s DDCA. Both have bred nepotism, promoting and posting close ones on the bodies, flouting rules,” Maken charged. Jaitley has already denied all allegations of irregularities in the DDCA during his 13-year tenure as DDCA president. The Congress leader further accused the state government of sending its ministers on “non-statutory” foreign tours on 24 occasions in 18 months of its rule, spending public money. Among the ministers and AAP leaders, who went abroad sans seeking approval of L-G, include Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Jain and Ashish Khetan, Maken alleged. He also picked holes in Kejriwal’s recent announcement of abolishing property tax. The Congress said the President should take note of findings of serious regularities and cases of siphoning of public funds, for political gains, pointed out in the report. DDCA case: HC exempts Azad from appearing before trial court

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Delhi High Court today granted suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad exemption from appearing before a trial court in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by DDCA and cricketer-turned-politician Chetan Chauhan. Justice Mukta Gupta, however, refused to stay the proceedings in the trial court, which had recently granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the case. The high court issued notice to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and Chauhan, seeking their response by July 20 on Azad’s plea for quashing the summons issued to him by the trial court. Azad, who was granted bail on February 18, has sought quashing of the complaint on the ground that he was merely sitting beside former cricketer Surinder Khanna during the press conference and had not made any imputations against the cricketing body. “Allegations against DDCA were made by Surinder Khanna. There is not an iota of evidence that I (Azad) have said anything. I was merely sitting beside the other members,” Azad’s counsel submitted. The counsel said that Khanna should have been named in the complaint. The trial court had on January 30 summoned Kejriwal and Azad, saying their statements prima facie adversely affected the reputation of the cricketing body and its officials. Kejriwal had in his application before the trial court sought dropping of proceedings against him on the ground that DDCA is a juristic person (other than a living human being) and the allegations are that he defamed the complainant by saying that sexual favours were demanded by the members of the cricketing body. Azad has also moved an application seeking discharge. The trial court has directed DDCA and Chauhan to file their reply on the next date of hearing on April 1. Both DDCA and Chauhan have claimed that defamatory statements were made by Kejriwal and Azad, who himself is a member of DDCA, “to remain in the public eye and gain political mileage”. “In an interview to a news channel, Kejriwal had alleged that apart from financial irregularities, there were other major wrongdoings in DDCA, including a sex racket,” the plea has alleged. The allegation against Azad was that he endorsed the defamatory allegations made by Kejriwal and claimed he had raised a similar issue in 2007.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will on Monday appear before the Delhi High Court in connection with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) defamation case.He will be cross-examined by counsel for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, senior advocate Ram Jethmalani. In the previous hearing, Jaitley tendered evidence in support of his civil defamation suit against Kejriwal and the AAP leaders. Jaitley had filed the suit seeking Rs 10 crore in damages after Kejriwal and five Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders accused him of alleged irregularities and financial bungling in Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), of which Jaitley was the president for about 13 years until 2013.Jaitley denied of all charges and filed a criminal defamation case against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders in the Patiala House Court, while a civil defamation case was filed in the Delhi High Court. The Supreme Court on November 22 dismissed Kejriwal’s plea seeking a stay on trial court proceedings in the case.

A fan of Honey Singh, this Guru sings a different tune from uncle

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>When Shoaib Aijaz Guru uploaded his songs on YouTube, little did people realise that the 18-year-old rapper is the nephew of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.Shoaib loves Shah Rukh Khan and aspires to become a Bollywood singer, but fears that the political atmosphere in the country may not allow him to live his dreams. From rap to pop, he can hop across genres with ease and even pens his own compositions.Hailing from Baramulla, Shoaib, who recently passed his class XII exams with flying colours, wants to carve his own identity. And despite no facilities being available, he has already created a niche in the cyber world with his rap and western looks.“I wanted to be a professional rapper. But I don’t think I have the capability needed for it. I have no training. I have no studio. I record on my laptop and then upload it on the Net. Cricket and music are my life,” Shoaib told DNA.The son of a contractor, who is the elder brother of Afzal Guru, Shoaib has been interested in singing since his schooldays. In fact, his school was the first venue where he showcased his talent as a rapper. “I used to rap in school concerts. My principal encouraged me a lot and I started writing as well. Later, I participated in a reality show, Kashmir’s Got Talent, where I was a finalist,” he said. Two years ago, Shoaib participated in another reality show, Chhoona Hai Asmaan, where he emerged as the winner in Baramulla district. If I would have told him, he would not have allowed me to participate. I did not participate in the state-level competition. I have sung many songs, including some for the Kashmir cause,” he said.Inspired by MC Kash, a rapper from Kashmir, Shoaib wears many different hats and wants to pursue a career in singing. I have never asked papa. I want to convince my parents. My cousin Ghalib (Afzal Guru’s son) also eggs me on. He sometimes tells me that I am a good rapper and that I should sing for Kashmir. He is beloved friend,” Shoaib said.

CM Arvind Kejriwal summoned in 2 defamation cases

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, it seems, cannot catch a break of late. Two different courts have summoned the CM to appear in connection with two separate defamation cases. In the matter against Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) at Patiala House Court, Sumit Das, directed Kejriwal and five others to appear on March 25. The five others accused in the case are Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, and Deepak Bajpayee. Jaitley had alleged in December 2015 that the six accused made “false and defamatory” statements in a case involving the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), thereby damaging his reputation. In a press conference, the CM had alleged that Jaitley, who headed the DDCA for 13 years, had profited from his relationship with the 21st Century Media Private Limited, a sports management firm. The court also declined to hear any arguments by the six AAP leaders before it put them on trial on charges of defamation. “I am of the considered opinion that no ground is made out for hearing accused persons at the stage of framing of notice. The application is bereft of any merit, mala fide, and filed solely with a view to stall the trial,” the court said. Jaitley’s criminal defamation case was soon followed by a civil case in the High Court, where he sought damages to the tune of Rs 10 crore. Barely minutes after CMM Das passed his order, Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) at Tis Hazari Court, Abhilash Malhotra, directed Kejriwal and Kirti Azad, former cricketer and suspended BJP parliamentarian, to appear in the court on February 18 in another defamation case. DDCA Vice-President Chetan Chauhan, through Advocate Sangram Patnaik, had alleged that Kejriwal and Azad defamed the cricket association by passing “scandalous” remarks. The two had alleged that a DDCA official sought sexual favours from a journalist’s wife in lieu of selecting her son for the cricket team. “It is prima-facie clear that Kejriwal made such a serious defamatory remark only on the basis of hearsay,” the Tis Hazari court ruled. The MM had observed that hundreds of players were associated with the DDCA and “such a drastic statement and that too from the CM may leave an adverse impression on the minds of cricketers, officials, and public at large, impacting the reputation of the DDCA, its organisational functioning, and the transparency of the selection process.”

DDCA controversy: Court dismisses Kejriwal’s plea

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A city court today dismissed the plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders seeking to be heard on point of framing of notice in a criminal defamation complaint filed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley against them in regard to the DDCA controversy. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Dass directed all the accused, including Ashutosh, Kumar Vishwas, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chaddha and Deepak Bajpai, to appear before the court on March 25 when it is likely to pronounce the order on framing of notice against them. “I am of the considered opinion that no ground is made out for hearing accused persons at stage of framing of notice … The application is bereft of any merit, mala fide and filed solely with a view to stall the trial. Accordingly, the application moved by the accused persons stands dismissed,” the court said. The accused had on October 24 last year moved the court seeking a chance to be heard before it decided on whether they would be put on trial in the criminal defamation complaint. Jaitley’s counsel had urged the court to frame the notice/charge against the accused persons, claiming there was no such provision in law. Jaitley had filed the criminal defamation complaint alleging that the accused had defamed him in a controversy regarding Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) when he headed it for over a decade. A civil defamation suit has also been filed by Jaitley before the Delhi High Court in the matter seeking Rs 10 crore as damages.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Court reserves order on DDCA’s plea against Kejriwal, Azad

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A Delhi court would pronounce on Monday its order on a criminal defamation plea filed by DDCA and its vice president Chetan Chauhan against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad for allegedly defaming the cricketing body by making “scandalous” remarks. Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra today fixed the matter for January 30 for pronouncing order after hearing arguments of the complainant’s counsel on pre-summoning evidence. Advocate Sangram Patnaik, appearing for Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and Chauhan, argued that all ingredients of criminal defamation are being made out under the CrPC and the complaint is squarely covered by a Supreme Court verdict where criminal defamation complaint can be filed by a company. “In an interview to a news channel, Kejriwal had alleged that apart from financial irregularities, there were other major wrong-doings in DDCA, including sex racket. “Kejriwal had alleged that sexual exchange is sought for by DDCA while making any player play for the team and this amounts to defamation,” Patnaik contended. Chauhan had earlier claimed that the defamatory statements were made by Kejriwal and Azad, who himself is a member of DDCA, “to remain in public eye and gain political mileage”. “The aforesaid actions of the accused have severely damaged the credibility and reputation of the complainant in the eyes of thousands of cricket lovers, citizens of India as well as internationally. “It has always been a serious apprehension, which has come true in this case, where provocative statements, irrespective of their falsity, have entered the realm of the internet and social media, and are being republished and forwarded again and again making it next to impossible to squelch the same,” the petition has said. The plea alleged that Kejriwal had made “scandalous” remarks against DDCA on national television due to which the cricketing body and Chauhan have suffered irreparable loss in the public eye. It has claimed Kejriwal’s “false” statements were immediately endorsed and repeated by Azad. It denied all allegations levelled by Kejriwal and Azad, sought their prosecution besides damages from them. The court had earlier recorded Chauhan’s statement during pre-summoning evidence in which he said his image as well as that of DDCA’s had been sullied in public eye.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)
