Noida sisters’ death suicide: Post-mortem

Post mortem reports of the two teengaged girls found hanged in Barola village, Noida, suggest that their death is a case of suicide, not murder. Preliminary investigations suggested this to be a case of honour killing.Following a complaint made by the father, the Gautam Budh Nagar police registered an FIR against three relatives, accusing them of killing his daughters, police said. The girls were found hanging outside their house in Barola village, Sector 49 on Tuesday morning. They were aged 13 and 18. According to post-mortem reports, which were out late on Tuesday night, death was caused by hanging and no other injury marks were found on the body.”Prima Facie, it looked like a case of suicide,” said Luv Kumar, senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar. “Besides a mark from the noose, no other injury marks were found on the bodies. An FIR has been lodged against Ravi, his father and uncle under Section 302 for the murder, sections 504 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code.”The mother of the girls had said her elder daughter was in love with their distant relative Ravi and the two had eloped recently. They were coerced to return by their family.Police say that though the family insisted the girls were murdered, there were gaps in their narration of the sequence of events. It suggested that they were hiding some things. “The family said that the door of their one-room set was bolted from outside; they made no attempt to open it from the only window of the room — which is right next to the door. The phone which the father had broken a day earlier was also not found,” said a senior police officer.Neighbours said none of the family members responded despite the many of them shouting when the girls’ bodies were found. While the police is convinced of the suicide theory, they are now working out the reason behind the suicide. They had detained the father for questioning. “During interrogation, he said a few days ago, two men from Ravi’s family had come to their house, searching for Ravi. Then on Monday, the father broke his daughter’s phone in anger. The younger daughter was close to her elder sister,” a senior police officer said.

Malik questioned as to whether tenders were floated while awarding this contract and said the chief minister should come clean on this issue since his own OSD is allegedly involved.Ridiculing the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, Chief Minister’s office has said that the loan waiver scheme is being implemented through direct benefit transfer. The CMO and IT secretary Gautam have stated that the high power committee under Chief Secretary Sumit Malik had gone through the process of RFP (Request for Proposal) after which the open tenders were floated. The contract, according to CMO, was awarded to lowest bidder of the tender process and since online loan waiver was included in to direct benefit transfer, the company got this work and there is no separate or additional charge paid for the same.REFUTING ALLEGATIONSRidiculing the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, the CMO said that the contract was awarded to lowest bidder of the tender process and since online loan waiver was included in to direct benefit transfer, the company got this work.

The post has been shared nearly 39K times and the comment section is filled with gratitude from men and a unanimous agreement from women.Read the post hereMeanwhile, back home ad copywriter Gautam Mahajan, who is based out of Mumbai, shared a post on how he, inspired by his bro culture, played a role in ensuring women did not feel safe at the workplace. “Me too – I laughed and participated in sexist jokes and misogynistic humour, thinking it was just what ‘men’ do. Me too – I was part of a toxic culture where a woman was considered a conquest, an object created for physical gratification. Me too – I threw the word ‘rape’ around casually, without understanding the gravity of what it meant, of what it represented. Me too – I thought that men were in some way superior to women. Me too – I represented everything I despise about masculinity today.”While speaking to DNA, Mahajan said, “I just saw so many women talk about being molested and it made me realise why this happens. It’s a toxic environment that we live in. And it’s so it’s so casual and normal that most people don’t realise it. I remembered myself as a teenager and how the ‘bro culture’ trained us to think like this. And then, the words came out,” he said.Read his post here

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The announcement for the state elections is likely to take place in the third week of October and many of the existing councillors are dreaming big. There are existing and former mayors in the race too. If sources are to be be believed, there are six existing councillors from BJP and Congress who are eyeing a berth in the Assembly polls. Most of them denied this when contacted, but some said that they would take up the opportunity if their party deemed fit. After BJP national president Amit Shah became a Rajya Sabha member, he was Member of State Legislature Assembly (MLA) from Naranpura constituency. This is the ward of current city mayor Gautam Shah, who is believed to be close to Shah. He is hopeful of getting a party mandate to contest from the Naranpura seat.Meanwhile there is also a roumour that many are rooting for Jay Shah – son of Amit Shah from Naranpura. But the party will not give ticket to Jay as party will not set an example by giving ticket to him, says a source. “BJP is against dynasty politics, and they will never promote it by giving a ticket to the party president’s son,” said one.”I will not deny if the party asks me for anything,” said Gautam Shah.Former mayor Amit Shah is keen on getting a ticket from Ellisbridge. Sitting MLA Rakesh Shah is not likely to get a ticket.Former mayor Meenakshi Patel is another aspirant for the polls. Sources said it is the reason why she has been taking more interest in state matters.”She is likely to pitch for Vejalpur constituency,” said the source. Patel said she has always been happy with what the party offered. “State-level recognition will also be welcome,” she said.Another councilor likely to get a promoted is Pravin Patel, the standing committee chairman.Patel on his part clearly denied any such ambition. “I am not planning for the state assembly elections,” he said.On the Congress front former leader of opposition Badruddin Shaikh and leader of opposition Dinesh Sharma are the ones sources say displaying political ambitions beyond the AMC limits.POLL POLITICSThere is also a rumour doing the rounds that many are rooting for Jay Shah – son of Amit Shah — to contest from Naranpura.
Party sources rubbished the claim saying that BJP does not believe in dynasty politics and will not let the national president’s son claim a berth.

Noida residents use ‘ Magic Fridge’ to feed the hungry

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>With an effort to bridge the gap between food wastage and hungry people, a community fridge has been set up at ATS Village, Sector 93A as a collective initiative of residents of the society and a few others. Called the ‘Magic Fridge,’ it is the first surplus food dispersing service which provides food to those who cannot afford two square meals, utilising what is more often than not thrown in the bins.An initiative of Gautam Jindal, a private professional and a resident of another society in Sector 108, the fridge has been placed at the back gate of ATS Village, opposite Gejha market. It was started only three days ago with help from ATS residents who have come together to promote the cause.Talking about the project, Jindal said that he was inspired by a similar programme going on in Gurugram. “I read about it on Facebook and then got in touch with the person who started it there. He was more than happy to help me. I followed his instructions because he already has some experience in doing this and hence Magic Fridge came into existence,” he said. The fridge, he informed, was donated by a friend who runs a hotel, though he had started crowd funding for the same. “My friend volunteered a lot of his time and money before we could gather funds, which helped us a lot.””A lot of food goes to waste in our homes these days. Either it is given to maids or thrown away in dustbins. With this idea, we are looking at primarily feeding those who don’t have any money to buy food,” adds Jindal. To ensure quality of food to end beneficiaries, the Magic Fridge comes with host of instructions pasted on the wall of the container. Residents who want to feed people, are asked to neatly pack the products in reusable aluminum foil or recyclable plastic containers, neatly naming the dish as well as the date when it was cooked. They are also instructed to make small packages for large amounts instead of one big one so that more people can benefit from it.Residents are also discouraged from keeping easily perishable food in the fridge like milk, cheese and canned products, if not sealed. Any dish that has not been consumed within 12 hours is thrown away. “I have personally requested the contributors to ensure that food that is edible, one that they eat at home, should find way to the fridge. The hungry too have dignity and we cannot give them stale and rotten food just because they can’t afford,” stated Jindal, who works with a private firm in Noida.A group of volunteers at ATS look after the fridge, ensuring regular supply of food from residents in the vicinity. Jindal himself visits the Magic Fridge twice a day, once in the morning and then at night. Next in pipeline is to visit slums in nearby areas this weekend to create awareness of this new facility that is available in the area.”We started with autowallahs, rickshaw pullers and other traders who squat by the footpath to utilise Magic Fridge. We have also asked them to spread the word amongst their friends and place of residence. More and more people should benefit from it,” said Jindal.

Seven other persons were given primary treatment and were discharged from the hospital,” said the officer.”We have asked the Fire Brigade department to submit its report and we are yet to make the arrests in the case and are investigating further,” said Ghosalkar.

Blue whale challenge: Teen kills self in MP; 21-year-old woman saved in Puducherry

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A 17-year-old who was allegedly taking part in the Blue Whale Challenge committed suicide by standing before a running train here, the police said.”We have got information that the Class XII student was part of the Blue Whale Challenge. We are checking his cell phone and investigating the matter,” additional superintendent of police (ASP) Arvind Dubey told PTI.”On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the boy stood before a running train and was taking selfies. His body was found on the tracks this morning,” the ASP added.Dubey said the boy was a resident of Futera Ward and had been influenced by the Blue Whale Challenge over the last few days according to investigations. He had reached the final stage of the online challenge and to accomplish it, left his home on a motorcycle last night, the ASP added. The boy reached a rail crossing close to Futera lake and after parking the two-wheeler near the tracks, he started clicking selfies before a running train and ended his life, Dubey said.He said a CCTV camera installed at a house near the railway crossing had recorded the entire episode.”We have registered a case and investigating the matter,” he said. The challenge starts by asking participants via social media to draw a whale on a piece of paper, then carve a whale figure on their body. It is followed by other tasks such as watching horror movies alone or waking up at unearthly hours. The tasks also involve self-harm, while the final challenge is to commit suicide.Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman who was allegedly in the advanced stages of finishing the Blue Whale challenge was rescued today, the police said here.On an information from the woman’s friend on a WhatsApp group, that she was acting abnormally and had not returned home since last night, the police traced her on a road along the beach near Gandhi Thidal early this morning, Director General of Police S K Gautam said. The WhatsApp group was created by Sub-inspector Keerthi to establish contacts with the residents of the area, the DGP said, adding the rescued woman is a bank employee. She has injuries on her wrist and a paper was recovered from her on which it was written “ten cuts in three days”. For the last few days she had locked herself up inside a room in her house, Gautam said. The woman has been handed over to her parents and she is being counselled, the officer said.Police have urged the people to alert them if they came across anyone, particularly youths, with abnormal behaviour.Massive campaigns were also planned to create awareness about the killer challenge, he said. The DGP presented a commendation certificate and a cash award of Rs 2,000 to the Sub-Inspector who saved the woman. The constable who had accompanied the SI was also awarded.Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy had yesterday said that the government would bring in a legislation to curb the menace of Blue Whale challenge and would set up monitoring committees to keep a vigil on the situation. The Blue Whale Challenge, which originated in Russia, starts by asking participants via social media to draw a blue whale on a piece of paper. The participants are then asked to carve the shape of a whale onto their body. They are given other “challenges” or “tasks” such as watching horror movies alone. These challenges or dares feature the commission of acts harming oneself. The last stage is suicide.

Woman files plaint after husband gives her instant talaq

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Days after the Supreme Court (SC) struck down the validity of the practice of talaq-e-biddat, which allows Muslim men to divorce their wives instantly by uttering the word ‘talaq’ thrice, a woman on Monday registered a police complaint against her husband in Greater Noida. In her complaint, the woman, 36-year-old Rehana Begum, said her husband of 15 years, Waseem, granted her instant talaq after she came to know of his extra-marital affair. Rehana said Waseem, a mechanic by profession, divorced her in the presence of her in-laws and a neighbour at his paternal house in Meerut on August 17.The complainant, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, said they have four daughters. The couple had been living in the Dadri area of Gautam Budh Nagar for the last one year.”My husband had been in a relationship with a woman for the last few months. He had stopped giving money to me and my daughters. When I questioned him a few days ago, he gave me triple talaq,” Rehana said.”I was asked to immediately leave my in-laws’ house and was abused and threatened,” she said, adding that as soon as she got to know about the Apex Court’s verdict, she decided to file a police complaint in the matter.”How can this talaq be valid when the SC itself has scrapped it? I will never accept it and I request the police to take strict action against my husband. Where will I go with my four daughters? We demand justice,” Rehana added.According to the police, no FIR has been registered in the case but they have started an investigation into the matter. “We have visited the in-laws of the woman and they are ready to let her stay at their house. Waseem, however, is still absconding and the police are trying to trace him,” a senior police officer said.He added: “We need to hear Waseem’s side before lodging an FIR in the matter. If charges levelled by the woman are found to be true, a case will be registered against him in Meerut, where the incident took place.”

Court refuses to book woman for filing false rape case

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A Delhi court has refused to initiate proceedings against a woman for filing a false rape case against a man, saying she was under immense pressure to lodge the complaint and her intention was not to defame him. Additional Sessions Judge Gautam Manan rejected the prosecution’s plea for initiating perjury proceedings against the woman and said the man has already been acquitted in the case and even he has not sought any action against her. “Testimony of the woman makes it evident that she did not lodge complaint to injure or defame accused. Her testimony further clarifies that she was under immense pressure to lodge FIR. “There is nothing on record to suggest that the woman has deposed falsely in the court and in absence of any material on record to suggest that she falsely depose before the court, proceedings cannot be initiated against her under the CrPC,” the court said. The prosecution said in its plea that the woman had lodged a false FIR and implicated the man by giving wrong information to the police making her liable to face action. The woman had lodged a rape case against the man, a property dealer, alleging that he had raped her on September 26, 2015 after taking her to a house in Dwarka here. The woman, a divorcee, also deposed before the court that she had come to Delhi along with her children few years back and the man had helped him in getting a house on rent. She had told the court that she had lodged the rape case under pressure and the man had not raped her and the physical relations between them were with her consent.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Delhi govt forms vigilance committee to probe sewer deaths

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Delhi minister Rajendra Gautam today set up a vigilance committee to look into sewer deaths in the city. The move comes after two brothers died of a similar incident in Anand Vihar today. The duo had inhaled toxic gases while cleaning a sewer at a shopping mall. Their father and a firefighter, who was involved in the rescue operation, also inhaled the toxic gas and have been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition, police said. “I am making a vigilance committee to monitor such illegal activities. I am shocked to see the courage of these contractors. They do not fear the law. Though we have no control on private buildings, we will take stern action against violators,” the water minister said in a series of tweets. Yusuf (50) and his two sons — Jahangir (24)and Izaz (22) — collapsed while cleaning the sewer, police said. As they did not come out of it for a long time, the police and fire department were informed. One of the firemen, Mahipal, who had entered the sewer, also inhaled the toxic fumes and collapsed, they said. All the four were rushed to the Hedgewar Hospital, where Jahangir was declared “brought dead” and Izaz died subsequently, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said. Last week, three men who were manually cleaning a sewer line at Lajpat Nagar had died after inhaling noxious fumes. The incident was reported three weeks after the death of four men while cleaning a septic tank in south Delhi’s Ghitorni. In both the cases, the victims were working for private contractors.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Ruckus in Delhi Assembly over Chandigarh stalking case

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Delhi Assembly had a noisy start to the monsoon session today with the ruling AAP targeting the BJP over the Chandigarh stalking case while the opposition BJP raised the issue of death of sanitation workers in the national capital. The ruckus affected the Assembly proceedings for an hour, and led to adjournments of the House twice. As the House met today, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel mentioned the Chandigarh stalking case in which the Haryana BJP president’s son is allegedly involved. Leader of the opposition Vijender Gupta objected to it and demanded a discussion on the death of sanitation workers in Delhi. Three men had died allegedly after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a sewer pipe in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar on Sunday, while last month, four sanitation workers died due to asphyxiation when they had entered a septic tank to clean it in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj. Gupta was joined by his two party colleagues. Goel asked them to sit down and also accused Gupta of “disrespecting” the women of the country “by opposing condemnation” of the stalking incident. As Gupta and the other BJP MLAs came in the Well of the House, the ruling AAP legislators followed suit shouting slogans. They were wearing badges in support of the woman who resisted her alleged stalkers in Chandigarh. The 29-year-old woman was chased through the streets of Chandigarh on her way home late on Friday night, allegedly by the BJP leader’s son and one more person. In the continuing din, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tried to reply to Gupta over the death of workers but he could not continue as the House was adjourned for 15 minutes. When the House met again, Sisodia said there is a standing instruction that sewage should be cleaned mechanically, but the contractor allowed manual cleaning of the sewers. “The government has announced Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of sanitation workers who had died while cleaning sewer. The investigation is going on in this case. If anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken,” Sisodia said. Meanwhile, Water Minister Rajender Pal Gautam told the House the government was framing new parameters so that there is no such incident in future. “Under new parameters (to clean sewer), the responsibility of officers concerned, contractors will be fixed,” Gautam said. Thereafter, AAP and BJP MLAs continued to shout slogans against each other over stalking case and death of sanitation workers respectively. The House was adjourned again for half an hour as the legislators stayed in the well despite the Speaker asking them to go back to their seat. Gupta and BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa were marshalled out of the House when they remained in the well despite the Speaker’s warning, demanding discussion on the death of four sanitation workers. Later in a press note, Gupta said the issue of stalking in Chandigarh was “listed today in the revised List of Business at the end of the last item under the title short duration discussion.” “But the Speaker suddenly reversed the order and introduced the last subject first in order to divert attention from the adjournment motion on sewer deaths to be introduced by the Leader of Opposition. This denies the rights not only Dalits but also the opposition,” he alleged. Gupta, an MLA from Rohini, also alleged the way the AAP government treated the death of sewer workers in the Assembly today establishes beyond doubt that it is not only a “dalit- virodhi” but also “opposition-repressive” dispensation. The BJP legislator alleged, “The AAP government wants to stifle the voice of opposition even if it is for the poor and the downtrodden.”(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

High time Delhi govt brings strict laws for sexual offenders:

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A court here has asked the Delhi government to consider bringing in stringent laws to curb rampant sexual offences against women and children in the national capital. The modesty of a woman has to be “strongly guarded” as the crime of sexual harassment is not only against her but also against the society at large, the court observed while awarding a three-month jail term to a 62-year-old man for molesting and threatening a woman here in 2014. “The offence, under section 354A (sexual harassment) of the IPC, committed by the accused is a crime not only against the woman but also against the society at large and modesty of a woman has to be strongly guarded,” it said. The court noted that no doubt the accused was aged and was neither involved in a similar complaint nor previously convicted but such offenders have to be dealt with sternly. “Looking to the rampant and increasing prevalence of crimes of sexual violence, molesting of woman in Delhi and other places, it is high time that the state of NCT of Delhi became sensitive to this grave issue and consider imposing stringent laws for putting a check on such crimes of sexual violence against women and children,” Special Judge Satinder Kumar Gautam said. The sessions court verdict came on the appeal of the state against a magisterial court’s order, passed in February this year, acquitting Amarjeet Singh of offences of sexually harassing and threatening the woman in whose premises he was running a shop in southeast Delhi. A magisterial court had on February 15 acquitted the man after accepting his contention that the woman and her mother had lodged a false case as their motive was to get the shop vacated. The sessions court, however, reversed the judgement, and convicted and sentenced him to three months in jail, already spent by him during trial. According to the prosecution, the woman had lodged a police complaint that she was sexually harassed and abused by the man, her tenant, on March 1, 2014. A case was registered for offences under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 506 (threatening), 509(outraging modesty of a woman) and 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) of the IPC. The man had sought leniency on the ground that he has remained in judicial custody for over three months and has faced trial for over two years.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

As long as we are together, nobody can defeat us.”Speaking on the occasion, Gambhir said: “One thing I would definitely like to mention here is that we easily remember Valentine’s Day, Chocolate Day, ans so on, but we usually forget about this one day due to which we are able to enjoy our freedom. It’s our responsibility to make the youth realise how important this day is for our country.”CHIEF GUESTS SPEAKVK Singh said that though India faced numerous attacks from foreign invaders, none could conquer India alone

4 held for Jewar gang rapes, murder

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Uttar Pradesh police arrested four men after a two-hour gunfight on early Sunday morning in connection with the alleged gang rape of four women and the murder of a male relative on Jewar-Bulandshahr road in the National Capital Region (NCR) about two months ago. Those arrested have been identified as Ashok, who has received a bullet injury in one of his legs, Rajesh, Jai Singh and Deepak. They are all members of a Bawariya gang, notorious for committing heinous crimes in north Indian states. Two other members managed to flee during the encounter that started at 2.30 am in Jewar’s Sabota village. The crime that took place on May 25 off the Noida-Delhi Yamuna Expressway had followed the robbery and gang rape of a minor and her mother on Delhi-Kanpur highway in Bulandshahr in July last year that had sparked widespread outrage against the absence of any security in checking spiralling highway crimes.”We had a tip-off that some gang members would be visiting Sabota. A police team surrounded the area. On seeing us, the criminals opened fire. We soon overpowered them,” Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Love Kumar said about Sunday’s encounter. HC issues directions on illegal encroachments on defence land

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Taking a grim note of illegal encroachments on a land near Noida meant for a firing and bombing range of the IAF, the Allahabad High Court has asked defence authorities and district officials to get back possession of the tracts that may have been grabbed. A division bench comprising Chief Justice D B Bhosle and Justice Yashwant Verma passed the order yesterday while allowing the public interest litigation of Noida resident Ajit Singh, who had drawn the court’s attention towards the illegal encroachments and sought directions to “get the land freed from the clutches of land grabbers” and to order an inquiry and “initiate criminal proceedings” against erring officials. A total of 482 acres of land was acquired for the IAF vide a notification issued way back in 1950. The land was spread across two villages of Gautam Buddh Nagar which at the time of acquisition fell under Bulandshahr district of western Uttar Pradesh. The court directed a high-level committee, set up to look into the matter and comprising defence and district administration officials, to ensure “immediate correction of land records” and “preparation of village maps” and consider “initiating appropriate disciplinary as well as penal action” against “errant officials”. The committee was set up vide an order of the court passed on May 19, 2015, shortly after the PIL was filed. The court also asked the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Revenue Board to “personally monitor the matter” and “ensure that all necessary cooperation is extended to the committee in locating records and making available all necessary information and material that would be required to pursue and protect the interests of the Indian Air Force”. “It is open to the Committee to launch criminal prosecution, whenever and wherever they find it necessary, not only against the errant officers but even the encroachers”, the court added. Additional Solicitor General of India Ashok Mehta had argued on behalf of Union of India, the main respondent in the matter, while senior advocate Anoop Trivedi represented the petitioner.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

PWD contracts: Court calls for report on threat to complainant

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A special court today directed the Anti-Corruption Branch to file a report regarding threats received by a man who has filed a complaint accusing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others for alleged irregularities in the grant of contracts for roads and sewer lines. Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry asked the ACB’s additional commissioner of police to verify and report regarding the threats allegedly given to the complainant. “Report be filed on the next date of hearing on July 31. SHO of ACB be also called on that day,” the court said. The case was transferred from the court of a magistrate to the special judge by the order of district judge as cases pertaining to the ACB and under the Prevention of Corruption Act are tried by special courts. ACB had registered three FIRs on its own on May 8 regarding alleged irregularities in granting the contracts. During the hearing, senior advocate Ajay Burman, who appeared for Rahul Sharma, submitted that the complainant, a Deklhi’ite, has been receiving threats from many quarters. The counsel said it was brought to court’s notice earlier also and the magistrate had called for a report from DCP of north east Delhi which has not been placed on record. ACB had filed a report before the magistrate that the Gautam Budh Nagar police has informed that there was no threat to Sharma’s life. The court was hearing a complaint filed by Sharma, founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO), seeking a direction to the police to lodge an FIR against Kejriwal, his brother-in-law Surender Bansal, proprietor of a construction firm and a public servant for alleged irregularities in the grant of contracts for roads and sewer lines in Delhi. Bansal died in May this year. The magisterial court had earlier directed the ACB to assess the threat perception regarding Sharma again after he submitted that on May 30 two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons fired gun shots at him when he was travelling in his car along with a cousin. In his complaint, Sharma has alleged “deep-rooted corruption” in the road and sewer line projects, claiming that documents showing purchase of material were “concocted and forged” and a loss of over Rs 10 crore had been caused to the public exchequer.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

MahaRERA deadline for projects’ registration won’t be extended

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) chairman Gautam Chatterjee today said the deadline for registration of projects under the Act will not be extended beyond July 31. He said so far over 300 applications have been registered, and expects nearly 20,000 to come online by end of this month. “We want to bring in transparency in the system and developers will have to be compliant before the deadline of July 31. We have no intention to extend the deadline and I won’t do that,” he told reporters on the sidelines of CII Realty and Infrastructure Summit, here. The Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act-2016 has come into force with effect from May 1 this year, and Maharashtra was one of the first states to notify its rules under the Act and establish MahaRERA. Chaterjee said the state is fully prepared and geared up to take on this task, so there is no question about extending the deadline even if the Central authority feels like extending. He further said he has also written to the state government for bringing projects, which have been completed and received occupation certificate after May 1, 2017, under the purview of MahaRERA. “I have written to the state government that projects which don’t require to be registered under Centre’s RERA Act should have a coverage under the Maharashtra Act, which will be actually replacing the Maharashtra Ownership of Flats Act (MOFA) 1963,” said Chatterjee. “RERA will take care of many aspects including formation of a legal entity after the building is ready. So, they should come under the MahaRERA Act,” he said, adding that a decision on this will be taken soon.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Singhania family groups settle property dispute after 9 yrs

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Over nine years after an arbitrator divided their family properties three-way, the Singhania family groups today brought the dispute to an end, with Raymond owner Gautam Singhania and others informing the Supreme Court that they have settled their wrangle among themselves. Three Singhania family groups — Mumbai, Kolkata and Kanpur were locked in the dispute over shares in the premium properties, despite the arbitration award splitting it three-ways. A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and A M Khanwilkar was apprised of the settlement which took the statement on record and allowed the parties to approach the Bombay High Court for releasing their share of Rs 46 crore deposited with it by the Kolkata group. It said the Bombay group will get Rs 23.40 crore, while the Kanpur group will get Rs 22.71 crore as per the settlement they have agreed upon. The bench directed the Bombay High Court to release the principal amount among petitioner Gautam Singhania and other members of group. The apex court also allowed the refund of Rs 20 crore deposited with the Supreme Court registry on proper identification. It had on April 30, directed Raymond owner Vijaypat Singhania and his son Gautam to hand over their luxury Kamla cottage, a bungalow in Juhu, to Kolkata group of the family as per the 2008, arbitration award by May 6. The bungalow was handed over to the Kolkata group of family after the apex court order. The arbitration award had said that the Kanpur group of the family was to hand over possession of four properties to Vijaypat Singhania-led Mumbai group, which in turn was to hand over the Juhu bungalow to the Kolkata group. However, Vijaypat Singhania had refused to part with the bungalow saying he had not got his share of property from the Kanpur group. In 2006, the Supreme Court had appointed an arbitrator. In 2008 the arbitrator while splitting the property passed an award directing that the Kolkata Group receive the Juhu property and four properties to be handed over to Bombay group by the Kanpur group. The bench passed the order on an appeal filed by Gautam Singhania, challenging a Bombay high court order directing him to vacate the bungalow. Counsel for the Kolkata group and senior advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for Gautam Singhania informed the bench that they have reached a settlement among themselves. The apex court, however, said that the issue of stamp duty will be decided by the High Court.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Noida reels under regular power cuts as govt claims fall flat

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Noida residents have expressed concerns about erratic, unscheduled power outages in several parts of the city, which according to them have exposed the poor practises in the power distribution company, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL). Areas including sectors 15A, 44, 25, 27, 37, 108 have been the most affected in the last few days.”Today, we had power cut for an hour in the morning. It happened again for about half-an-hour later in the day. There’s no way of knowing how often this will happen and for how long,” said Anjali Gupta, a resident of sector 25.The rains in the last week added to the locals’ woes. “Power was tripping throughout Friday. We were not even prepared to recharge our inverter. In additon, the appliances are getting damaged due to short circuits,” said Nitisha Singh, a resident of sector 27.Even the newly developed sectors are facing this issue. “When we shifted to this society, we were told that we would be getting 24-hour power supply. On an average, however, there is 4-5 hours of power cut daily. Whenever we demand an explanation, we are told that it’s either the powerhouse’s fault or a transformer is under repair,” said Vimlesh Pradhan, President of the Resident welfare Association (RWA), Sector 108.Despite the government claims that transformers are being enhanced and new lines are being laid, residents said there has been no let-up in the crisis for months now.In April, the PVVNL had bought 25 transformers to be installed across the city to reduce burden on Noida’s overloaded transformers. PVVNL Superintending Engineer Mukul Singhal said as per the directions of the Managing Director, the 25 transformers were sanctioned for the Gautam Budh Nagar.”We have already installed a few transformers across the city. But due to some reason, all of them could not be installed. The existing transformers are running up to 65-70 per cent of their capacity and as the power demand increases in summers, they get overloaded,” he said….& ANALYSISDespite several promises in this regard, the new dispensation has completely failed to provide better power supply in Noida, where residents continue to face regular and long power cuts. Some have even claimed that the situation was worse than the previous years.

They along with the activists of other hill parties held a massive rally at Chowkbazar area. Local TMC leaders under the leadership of J B Tamang, meanwhile, joined GJM and extended their support to the Gorkhaland demand. Darjeeling had witnessed unrest and violence on the 17th day of the shutdown yesterday as GJM supporters made an unsuccessful attempt to set ablaze a panchayat office. Senior TMC leader and minister Gautam Deb accused the Centre for not providing “enough support” to the state government to control the situation in the hills. “We had asked for more forces to control the situation, but the Centre is not paying heed to our requests.
