Dr Subhash Chandra hails ‘only party that talks of kartavya’

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Addressing sco-res of fans and followers, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subhash Chandra on Sunday said that if people focus on their duties and ensure fulfilling them, then there’s no one who can deprive them of their rights.A multitude had gathered in Meerut to listen to Dr Chandra as he arrived at Patel Mandap with Rashtriya Kartavya Party leader Kiran Aarsi Jatav. In his address, Dr Chandra said, “Those who take our rights away only succeed when we aren’t aware of our duties.” Talking about the recently launched political party, he said, “Whenever a political party is launched, the leaders claim that they will get people their rights back. But this is the first party I have seen that talks about kartavya (duty).” He added that Kiran underwent a long period of struggle “which I truly understand because I underwent the same in my life when I started.”The Rajya Sabha MP said, “I’ll be with her and I assure her of my support, so that people and country both can benefit from her and her party’s ideology and their struggle.” The event was named “Kartavya Sammelan”.Talking about the politics of UP, he said that BSP leader Mayawati spent a long time in UP politics and that when he sees efforts made by Kiran, it reminds him of Mayawati’s support to the Jatav community. However, giving an example, Dr Chandra said, “It reminds me of the story of a Rs 1 coin and a Rs 2,000 note. While one (the coin) gets rotated everywhere and can be used anywhere, the Rs 2,000 note has limited use due its huge denomination. So, I’d like to tell you that never underestimate yourself and do not let anything deter you from your duties. Believe in yourself and be your strength.”Dr Chandra added that he’d like to see Kiran as the chief minister of UP some day, but said that he hopes she does not become the next Mayawati. “I believe you will not, and I have full faith in you,” he added.

An asthmatic breathes a sigh of relief

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Swapnil Mathur, 31, has been suffering from asthma since he was a toddler, but in the last few years, his condition had severely deteriorated due to the bad air quality. His problems would get worse around Diwali, as this is the time when the weather changes as well. In fact, last year, he had to be hospitalisedjust after Diwali. The Supreme Court’s decision to completely ban the sale of of firecrackers in the city till November 1 has come as a boon to Mathur.”Any change in weather conditions i.e. temperature or wind, has been a problem for me since birth. Exposure to pollen, dust, or even strong smells lead to an asthma attack,” said Mathur, a technology reviewer. “Last year was the worst in my three decades of asthma. Despite starting the precautionary medicines two weeks ahead of Diwali, I still had to be hospitalised the next day,” he said.Mathur later had to get an industrial-grade mask, which is specifically designed to filter out fumes and particulate matter, and nebulise for several days, even at home. This year again, he has started taking the precautionary medicines and will leave the city for a week during Diwali. His doctor has strictly prescribed him to move out of the city for a few days and return only after the fumes have settled. Unfortunately, he will not be able to celebrate Diwali with his family.”I absolutely love the SC decision. But I would have loved it if it had barred the use of firecrackers as well. Right now, it is illegal only to sell them in Delhi-NCR, but those who want to burn crackers would still get them from Meerut, Sonipat, and other areas on the outskirts. It’s still good to know that they have taken a step like this,”he said.

22 drown as overloaded boat capsizes in Yamuna

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>A total of 22 people died when a boat carrying them capsized in the Yamuna near Katha village in Baghpat district, western Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday morning. Soon after the incident, angry villagers indulged in arson and heavy stone-pelting, injuring several policemen and some media persons.District Magistrate Bhawani Singh confirmed the deaths of 22 people. He added that some 20 people who were rescued and referred to Delhi and Meerut were in critical condition.”The boat was small and had the capacity to carry a dozen people, but it was overloaded with 55-60 passengers, a good number of them carrying bags of fertilizer. When it reached midway, it capsized,” Singh said.Boat is the only means for villagers here to reach their fields. Many daily labourers also accompany farmers to earn their livelihood.Villagers claimed that the boat owner had been warned several times in the past about overloading, but he would still take more passengers to make more money. “In complete disregard for the safety of passengers, he would also allow people to carry their heavy luggage and farm equipment. Today, many farmers loaded bags of fertilizer onto the overloaded boat. It could not bear the weight and went down. We saw people shouting for help, but no one dared to jump into the river, which has many huge pits due to illegal mining in the riverbed,” said Raghuram, an eye-witness.Villagers also claimed that the rescue operation started two hours after the boat sank at 7.45 am although they had informed district authorities almost immediately.”Many lives could have been saved if the rescue operation started early,” said Surendra Kumar.Angry villagers held massive demonstration with the bodies of those who died in the tragedy, bringing traffic to a halt. They pelted stones and set several trucks and an ambulance on fire. Some of them also turned their ire on media persons who were covering the arson, damaging their video cameras. We will make another attempt on Friday morning.”Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was busy with President Ram Nath Kovind’s visit to Lucknow, expressed condolences and announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to the families of those who died.

Hrs after Supreme Court ban, UP man gives instant talaq to wife

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Within hours of the Supreme Court (SC) declaring triple talaq unconstitutional, a man divorced his wife using the same provision, known as talaq-e-biddat, in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Meerut on Tuesday evening. In perhaps the first case of instant talaq after the banning of the same by the apex court, a resident of the Kamrannawaban area in Sardhana, Meerut, Siraj Khan, divorced his wife of six years, Arshi Nida, by uttering the word ‘talaq’ three times. The couple has two sons and a daughter, and Arshi is currently pregnant.Arshi’s father Sabreen said: “Soon after the wedding, Siraj and his family started beating my daughter for more dowry. They wanted a car. They threatened to marry off Siraj to another woman.”Reportedly, when Arshi gave birth to their third child, a daughter, Siraj and his family members thrashed her and threw her out of the house. “They told me to return only with a Santro car and Rs 1 lakh in cash,” Arshi said. Finally on Tuesday, Sabreen and some elders of the mohalla went to Siraj’s house to try and reach an agreement. “Siraj and his family members created a ruckus and threw us out of the house. When other residents of the area tried to pacify them, Siraj said talaq three times to end the marriage,” Sabreen said. When reminded of the SC ban, Siraj allegedly shouted: “For me, this is the end of my marriage with Arshi. We will get a certificate from the Qazi.”Arshi then lodged a case on Wednesday at the Sardhana police station against Siraj, his father Riyaz, mother Moina, and other family members for violating the Supreme Court order and under the Dowry Act.Confirming the receipt of the complaint, Sardhana SHO Dharmendra Kumar said: “We have lodged a case and will initiate action against the accused, once the investigation is finished.”Meanwhile, soon after the registration of the case, Siraj and his family members went absconding.Commenting on the incident, Shahista Amber, Chairperson of the All-India Women Muslim Personal Law Board, said: “It is unfortunate that the community members are still adamant about following the age-old unislamic practice of triple talaq, even after the Supreme Court has banned it. It is a case of contempt of the apex court and the police must initiate immediate action against the accused.”Legal expert Virag Gupta, however, said there was no clarity yet about the action to be taken against those defying the SC ban. Also, the case of contempt has to be filed in the court whose order has been violated. In this case, either the victim or the state of Uttar Pradesh or a women’s organisation will have to move a contempt application on Arshi’s behalf in the SC, Gupta added.

Stressing that action had already been initiated against officials, Sinha said, “Once the report comes…the action will be such that has not been seen before.” “On preliminary basis… things that have come to light… based on it I feel that the most stringent action has been taken in the history of the railways,” Sinha told reporters on the sidelines of the ITU-TRAI Asia Pacific Regulators Roundtable in Delhi.Asked whether the preliminary report had pointed to human error for the train mishap, Sinha said, “You are wrongly informed, the inquiry is going on.” Yesterday, Railway Board member (Traffic) Mohd Jamshed had said that equipment to repair tracks was found at the accident spot and that the Commissioner Railway Safety would investigate if unauthorised repair work led to the tragedy. The major accident, which was prima facie caused by negligence at the local level, has put a spotlight on the safety on the tracks.”We are embarking on a mission to provide upgraded safety features on coaching stock,” a top official of the Railways Ministry said in Mumbai while requesting anonymity. “It has been decided that only the Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches will be manufactured from 2018-19 as they are of a superior design that reduces the chances of derailment and mitigates the chances of grievous injury or death in case of accidents,” the official said. “It has been decided to carry out improvement in safety features in existing the Integral Coach Factory (ICF)-designed coaches which have a residual life of over 10 years. About 40,000 coaches will be provided with these features in the next five years,” he said. The ministry, under attack over the rail accidents, also came out with figures to insist that there has been a decline in the number in the last three years. In 2014-15, the number of accidents was 135 which decreased to 107 in 2015-16 and further to 104 in 2016-17, it said in a statement. In the current year, train accidents decreased from 29 to 15 during the April-June span in comparison to the corresponding period of 2016, an improvement of 48.3 per cent, the statement said. “Although every human life is invaluable and (any casualty) is an irreparable loss to us, the number of casualties has also seen a declining trend. The total (number of) fatalities in the first three years of the UPA I (the United Progressive Alliance I) was 759, (and it) increased to 938 during the UPA II…”The first three years of this government have seen the number declining to 652,” it said. Safety measures, including speedy track renewal, ultrasonic rail detection system, elimination of several unmanned level crossings on priority basis, a special safety fund, along with sophisticated the Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches with anti-climbing features, have additionally helped make train travel safer, it said. “Accidents per million train kilometres, an important index of safety , have come down from 0.23 in 2006-2007 to 0.10 in 2015-2016 and further to 0.09 in the year 2016-2017 despite a quantum increase in the volume of traffic carried by Indian Railways over the years,” said a senior railway official. While derailments have continued to be a thorn for the railways, with 63 such cases in 2014-2015, 65 the next year and 78 in 2016-2017, the largest transporter has eliminated 4258 unmanned level crossings (UMLC) in last three years, leading to drop in fatalities from UMLC accidents from 64 per cent of total fatalities in 2013-14 to 16.81 per cent in 2016-17, the statement said. “Investments for safety have increased from Rs 33,972 crore per year during the UPA II to Rs 54,031 crore every year under this government, a jump of 60 per cent. The average vacancy in safety positions during the period 2009-10 to 2013- 14 was 18.65 per cent of the total sanctioned strength. This has dropped down to 16.86 per cent in 2017 despite the sanctioned strength increasing by five per cent from 2014 to 2017,” it said.In the Railway Budget 2016-17, the government had announced ‘Mission Zero Accident’. It comprises two sub- missions — The elimination of unmanned level crossings (UMLC) along broad gauge tacks in the next three-four years and the Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS).”There are 27,181 level crossings in India of which 19,480 are manned and 7,701 are unmanned. Planning has been made to eliminate unmanned level crossings along broad gauge tracks by 2020,” the official said. The allocation of fund for track renewal has been almost doubled from the last five years average of Rs 5,548 crore to Rs 9,961 crore in the Budget Estimate of 2017-18, he said.

Sleepless in Khatauli: Local community galvanises into action

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>”Their screams broke the calm of this sleepy town,” recalls local resident Manoj Baliyan, who after regaining his senses, rushed to the aide of the passengers, some of whom were left perilously caged in mangled train coaches. “In few minutes, we saw the tracks splattered with blood. Passengers were crying in agony, we took small cutting equipment, whatever we could manage, in short time and went to help them,” he said. Incidentally, Baliyan, shared the tragedy as the facade of the entrance of his house was shattered by a mangled coach which had rammed into it. It was pulled away this evening by the railways team, capping a day of dramatic events. Sumir Kumar, a labourer, said, he heard a deafening thud and soon realised it was a train accident. “I and my friend were retiring from work when we realised what had happened. We went there with cutters and soon many people rushed to the site, with gas cylinders to help in cutting the mangled coach,” he said. But, it wasn’t just the injured and shocked passengers they were bringing succour to, many local youth were helping in guiding traffic or offering water and refreshments to authorities, NDRF rescue teams, and media persons, all of whom spent a sleepless night, even as the town continued to come to terms with the tragedy today. In hours of disasters, human beings are known to have risen to the occasion, tiding over narrow differences, they may otherwise have. And, this is precisely what happened when the tragedy struck. The Hindus of Jagat Colony and Muslims from Islamabad village pitched in together in rescuing the injured, thus becoming a shining symbol of harmony and unity, in this hour of distress. Ajay Kushwaha, 31, a local resident, was seen offering water to people the whole night and returned at the break of dawn to watch the track clearance work. Besides, people trickled in from neighbouring Meerut too, some brought food, while others medicine, which they distributed at the hospital. And, it was not just the authorities having a sleepless night here, almost the entire city seems to have lost sleep due to the sheer magnitude of the tragedy, that has befallen this town. On the fateful Saturday evening, 13 coaches of the Haridwar-bound train derailed near Khatauli station. A huge crowd gathered around the site of the accident, as people from all faiths, congregated, signifying the coming together of a society for one cause.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Speaking to ANI here, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said, ” We should have a five-year plan where we put enormous resources in that all the money earned by the railways remain with it. No dividend should be passed on to the Finance Ministry and the budget of the Railway Ministry should be returned to the railway ministry.? Launching a counter attack at RJD Chief Lalu Yadav’s accusation that railway minister is responsible for the derailment, Swamy stated that all these problems have been accumulated over the years and the worst period was when the former was the railway minister. “When Lalu, in order to show improvement and to attract the schools from abroad to visit here and do some image build up, he overloaded the tracks and added 5-6 extra boggies, introduced whole big series of trains. I tell you, there was track saturation and the tracks were not being replaced but should be replaced after 30-40 years as they have become weak & worn out. By the time we came to power there was a cash crunch,” he said. Hailing Suresh Prabhu for his total dedication for his job, Swamy said “he is best railway minister we ever had.” A total of 97 passengers have been injured and 23 passengers reported dead in this unfortunate accident. Kennels, but no ACs, for Crime Branch canines

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Delhi Police’s Crime Branch thought their canine fleet would be ecstatic at seeing their newly constructed kennels, located at a new building on Tuesday. But no, the 35 labradors turned up their noses and refused to walk into new kennels. The reason? No air-conditioning.The kennels that the canines had refused to enter were housed in the dog squad building. This is part of Crime Branch’s new police station, located in Pushp Vihar in south Delhi. Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik had inaugurated the new building with much fanfare on Tuesday but the lack of ACs ensured that while people might be staying there, the canines would not, at least for now.Speaking to DNA, Crime Branch officials admitted that they had forgotten to install ACs in the building where the kennels were housed. As a result, alternate accommodation would have to be provided for the dogs till they were installed in the building. The 35 labradors have been procured from IBC Meerut, by the Crime Branch.”All the labradors are aged between two to three years. These dogs are already endowed with basic skills and will further specialise in tracking down weapons and explosives. Hassan had been lodged in Tihar jail for a rape case since January 19 this year and was released on interim bail on May 17 as his wife Sonia and four children, Aqib, Shaqib, Arzoo and Arshi, had been “missing” since April 18. The accused took help of three other men to orchestrate the killings of his partner, his wife and four children last month and got their bodies buried at different places — in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and Burari in north Delhi, they said. Accused Sahib Khan alias Bunty and the three “contract killers” he hired have been arrested, while the police have started work to exhume the bodies, a senior officer said. The gory incident came to light when the body of 45- year-old Munawwar Hassan with gunshot injuries was found at his residence in Burari on May 20 after Khan informed police about his death, said Deputy Commissioner of Police(North) Jatin Narwal. Hassan was lodged in Tihar jail for a rape case since January 19 this year and was released on interim bail on May 17 as his wife Sonia and four children, Aqib, Shaqib, Arzoo and Arshi, had been “missing” since April 18, the DCP said. Hassan had contested the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections from Badli constituency on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket. On May 18, he informed police that his wife and children have gone missing. Police suspected the actions of Bunty and quizzed him after finding contradictions in his statement. Bunty was instrumental in getting Hassan out on interim bail. Ever since Hassan got bail, Bunty had been visiting him every day at 8 AM, police said. However, on May 20, when Hassan’s body was found, Bunty had reached there by 1.30 PM. He told police that since Hassan did not respond to his calls, he did not go to visit him earlier, they said. After sustained interrogation, Bunty told police that he had got Hassan killed, the DCP claimed, adding he along with his friend Deepak, and two alleged contract killers, Feroze and Zulfiqar have been arrested. The main accused also confessed that within the last one month, he killed Hassan’s family members and their bodies were buried in Meerut and Burari. Bunty was known to Hassan and his family for last several years. He was the deceased’s confidante and business partner but for greed over his properties worth Rs two crore, including his office land, home and other places he got his entire family killed, police said. Hassan worked as a property dealer and along with Bunty he was involved in dealing in disputed properties. Narwal said Bunty had even got forged documents prepared for transfer of the properties in his name. Bunty told police that on April 20, he took Hassan’s wife and daughters to their relative’s house in Saharanpur. While returning to Delhi, he killed them with the help of a contract killer. The accused claimed that he hired contract killers for Rs three lakh to eliminate Hassan’s family. Hassan’s wife and daughters were shot dead and buried at a farm in Meerut, police said. On April 22, when Hassan’s sons reached Bunty’s office in Burari to inquire about their mother and sisters, they were also killed and their bodies were buried there. Meanwhile, police said they have exhumed the highly- decomposed bodies of Hassan’s sons from five feet beneath the soil in Burari under the supervision of the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM). The accused and his aides had put salt on the bodies while burying them to ensure their quicker decomposition, an officer said. A police team has been sent to Meerut for recovering the bodies of Hassan’s wife and his daughters. Hassan was accused in several cases, including those of rape, land grabbing, attempt to murder, kidnapping. The rape case for which he was lodged in Tihar Jail was filed in 2015 and he was convicted this year in January. Two more contract killers are involved in the case and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Under Yogi govt, UP has joined ‘Mission Modi’: Venkaiah Naidu

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Union minister Venkaiah Naidu today said with the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, the state has joined the “Mission Modi”, an acronym for “making of developing India”. The Urban Development Minister, who held a meeting with the chief minister and senior officials, handed over release order to the tune Rs 1,263 crore for different projects in the state. “UP lagged behind in implementing the schemes of the Centre and the reason is that the previous government did not had the intention to do so. I’m not levelling any allegation but stating a fact, people have already given them a reply,” Naidu said in a joint press conference with Yogi Adityanath. With the coming of the Yogi government, UP has joined the ‘Mission Modi’ and we will work towards fulfilling the promises made at election time, he said. The Pradhan Mantri Awas scheme along with other schemes of the Centre was not at all implemented by the previous government, Naidu said, adding with a “dutiful” chief minister and a “helpful” prime minister, the people of the state can hope for a “beautiful” state very soon. The release orders, handed over by the union minister, included Rs 375 crore for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Rs 442 crore for Smart City Mission and Rs 446 crore for Lucknow Metro project. Lucknow has been given Rs 119 crore, while Rs 107 crore each has been given to Agra, Kanpur and Varanasi, Naidu said, adding that Rs two crore have been given to Meerut and Rae Bareli for sending a proposal under the smart city mission. The Union minister said 61 cities of the state, including Ayodhya, have been included in AMRUT to work on three main components of potable water, sanitation and solid waste management. The recommendation for Noida and Greater Noida metro rail project of 29.7 km, worth Rs 5,503 crore, will soon be okayed and there is also a proposal before the NCRTC board of Delhi- Meerut regional rapid transit system on a 90 km stretch, worth Rs 32,000 crore, Naidu said. To a question on some banned channels telecasting visuals in Jammu and Kashmir, Naidu, who is also the Information and Broadcasting Minister, said action has to be taken by respective district magistrates. “We have reviewed it and asked for taking strong action and will monitor it,” he said. After reviewing the working of Doordarshan and AIR, Naidu said they will be promoted and their services will be expanded in Uttar Pradesh and Nepal with setting up of more FM stations and starting programmes on local regional languages. “The chief minister has also suggested live coverage of the Assembly session by Doordarshan and to start programme on local languages like Brij, Bhojpur and Awadhi on Akashwani and Doordarshan,” he said. To a question on whether there is any move to give pension to victims of triple talaq, Naidu said the issue is not connected to pension but is a “social problem”. “The entire society should work to find a solution to it and our stand is known and that is there should be no discrimination with anyone on religious grounds. Soon a decision will be given by the apex court, he added.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Woman gives husband taste of his own medicine, utters ‘triple

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Amid the raging debate over triple talaq, a woman broke the proverbial glass ceiling by uttering the three words to divorce her husband and free herself from his atrocities over dowry. Amreen Bano uttered the word ‘talaq’ thrice at the Inspector General of Police’s office on Wednesday in the presence of media. She asserted that if men can divorce their wives by saying ‘talaq’ thrice, why can’t women do the same. She termed her step as a revenge on her in-laws as her younger sister was given ‘talaq’ by her husband’s brother. She told the mediapersons that she and her sister Farheen were married to Sabir and his brother Shakir on March 28, 2012. Since their marriage, their husbands and in-laws harassed the two sisters for dowry. Last September, Shakir divorced Farheen. “As we raised our voices against the atrocities, my sister was divorced by her husband,” Amreen said, adding physical and mental atrocities increased thereafter. Amreen had even lodged a complaint against her husband, brother-in-law and four others of harassment. As no action was taken by the police in the matter, she yesterday reached the IG’s office demanding her husband and in-laws be punished. She then divorced her husband in front of mediapersons. “I divorced my husband as a revenge on the family for the atrocities we had to face. It was also because my brother-in- law divorced my sister.” Amreen said the Narendra Modi government is working for the welfare of women on the ‘triple talaq’ issue. “All women should support the government on this,” she said. However, chief Qazi of Meerut, Jenur Rashideen, said there is no provision for women to divorce their husbands in Islam. But he added that a woman has to give an application at a Shariat panchayat for divorce. The panchayat will first try to resolve the issues between the couple but if it fails, then it can get the woman a divorce from her husband, he said. IG, Meerut zone, Ajay Anand, said Amreen met him with her complaint against her in-laws. He said he has asked the police station concerned to act on the complaint.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

Sanjeev Balyan in tune with Yogi Adityanath on ‘Vande Matram’

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Terming the controversy surrounding ?Vande Mataram? as unwarranted, BJP MP and Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan on Thursday said that people, who are inhibiting from singing the national song, must be told that there is nothing wrong with singing it. Balyan told ANI, that a solution in this regard should be chalked out and Muslims should not think that there is something wrong with the national song. ?People must understand that there is nothing wrong with singing Vande Mataram. I don?t know why some people are making an issue out if it. A solution should be chalked out in this regard. I don?t know why there is this mentality that Vande Mataram is not okay for Muslims. We should explain people and make them understand this,? said Balyan. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath last week said not singing the national anthem is a serious issue, adding that by doing so it only highlighted one’s prejudice. Adityanath breaking his silence for the first time on this issue said that the people are extending this issue for no reason. “We want to see development in this country, but our issue of conflict is over not singing the National Anthem and National song. Not singing Vande Mataram shows a prejudiced mind. This is a matter of concern,” Aditynath said at the book unveiling function of ‘Governor’s guide’ here. The Chief Minister’s comments come after a controversy erupted over singing Vande Mataram in the Varanasi and Meerut Municipal corporations. A week after the mayor of Meerut asked all corporators to either sing Vande Mataram or leave the country, BJP councilors at the Allahabad Nagar Nigam on Thursday demanded that a new rule be passed under which the House proceedings would start with the national song Vande Mataram and end with the national anthem Jana Gana Mana. Some councilors objected to the proposal and it led to ruckus and disruption of the proceedings of the House. Councilors in the Opposition alleged that BJP Councilors are raising this demand because of BJP coming to power in the state.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Condemning the Meerut Municipal Corporation?s move to prohibit its members from attending a meeting as they refused to sing ‘Vande Mataram’, the Congress on Thursday said one should not be forced to sing the national song. ?I think it should not be made mandatory to say Vande Matram, and on the other hand, people should also not refrain from saying Vande Matram. Neither the Municipal Corporation should force anyone to sing ‘Vande Mataram’ nor people should refuse to say it,? Congress leader Rajeev Shukla told ANI. Meanwhile, Muslim cleric Mufti Mukarram demanded a strict action against the mayor. ?I strongly condemn it. They can?t force us to sing Vande Mataram. Mayor shouldn?t act like this. There should be proper action against him,? Mukarram told ANI. The Meerut Municipal Corporation has prohibited its members from attending a meeting after they refused to sing ‘Vande Mataram’. The resolution was proposed by Mayor Harikant Ahluwalia after some councillors belonging to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Opposition clashed over the national song. All seven corporators, refused to attend the meeting, were from the minority community. They left the session soon after rest of the members started singing Vande Mataram. There is also a proposal to terminate the membership of those councillors who did not sing the national song and instead walk out of the meeting. The meeting had earlier on Tuesday started with Ahluwalia asking all members to stand up and sing the national song. It was then that some members belonging to opposition walked out after which the BJP councillors started raising slogans, “Hindustan me rehna hai to Vande Mataram kehna hoga”. The corporators returned to the meeting after a while, but Ahluwalia refused to let them in.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

A bench headed by Justice Jawad Rahim slammed UP Awas Vikas Parishad over its statement directing Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam to manage the construction work of roads from the available funds. “Counsel for UP Awas Vikas Parishad submits they have received the estimate from the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and they have replied to them directing to manage from the available fund. This does not supply to us as proper course adopted by the UP Awas Vikas Parishad. We direct them to file reply to the direction passed by the tribunal. “In the meanwhile Commissioner, Meerut Division shall conduct a meeting between Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and UP Awas Vikas Parishad and resolve the issue regarding funding of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam for assuring compliance of directions issued by this tribunal. Report in this regard shall be filed within next date of hearing,” the bench said. The green panel had directed the civic body on May 16, 2016 to maintain roads and pavements with sufficient green cover in Sector 3 of Vasundhara after a plea alleged non-compliance. Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, however, had claimed before NGT that the budgetary allocation was insufficient to carry out the work and directions of the tribunal. The bench remained unsatisfied with the submission and imposed a Rs 1 lakh fine on three officials of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) for non-compliance of its order. It had said that Municipal Commissioner Abdul Samad, Chief Engineer R K Mittal and its Executive Engineer were responsible for the lapses in Sector 3 of Vasundhara and directed that the fine be recovered from them with immediate effect. The tribunal’s order came on a plea filed by Ghaziabad resident Nayan Agrawal seeking execution of NGT’s direction to repair and carry out maintenance of the roads and pavements with sufficient green cover in Sector 3 in Vasundhara area.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)
