Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan today slammed Lalu Prasad for comparing himself with Nelson Mandela and B R Ambedkar, saying they made sacrifices in national interest while the RJD chief was in jail for corruption. The Lok Janshakti Party chief said Prasad had insulted stalwarts like Ambedkar by comparing himself with them and asked if the fodder scam was a scam of the poor or the powerful people. Defending his ally BJP, which has been accused by Prasad of conspiring to put him behind bars, Paswan said the allegations amounted to an insult of the judiciary as he has been convicted by a court not the saffron party. “Lalu ji you should not blame the BJP for everything to hide your sin. You should also not compare yourself with Martin Luther King, Mandela or Baba Saheb Ambedkar. They made sacrifices in the national interest. You are in jail for corruption, which is against national interest,” Paswan said on Twitter. The LJP chief, who was an ally of Prasad earlier, said the RJD chief and his supporters may make a lot of noise but his crimes cannot be brushed under the carpet. A CBI court had yesterday convicted Prasad in a corruption case involving the fodder scam. He blamed the BJP for the development, accusing it of a conspiracy to put him behind bars. Soon after the verdict, a post on Lalu Prasad’s Twitter handle had read, “Powerful people and powerful classes always managed to divide society into ruling and the ruled classes. Also readCongress backs Lalu Prasad Yadav, says alliance still strongAnd whenever anyone from the lower hierarchy challenged this unjust order, they would be deliberately punished.” Another tweet had said, “Had people like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Baba Saheb Ambedkar failed in their efforts, history would have treated them as villains. They still are villains for the biased, racist and casteist minds. No one should expect any different treatment.”

The Congress party on Saturday came out in support of convicted Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and dismissed any impact of the decision on its alliance with RJD. Congress leader Manish Tewari termed the Central Bureau of Investigation as “pet performing parrot” of the current government and said that Yadav and his lawyers are able enough to cope with the fight ahead.”This issue is not new, this began in 1993-94 and since then we had an alliance with the RJD. They were a part of UPA, we have also been together in the grand alliance… criminal matters and political alliances are two separates issues,” Tewari said during the party’s press briefing. The former union minister also questioned the double standards of the CBI and asked why was it not investigating the Srijan scam, that allegedly involves Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. “I want to ask the BJP why Srijan scam is not being investigated? The central charge was same in this case. Why there are different strokes for different folks,” Tewari said.Meanwhile, senior RJD leaders came out strongly against the BJP and its misuse of investigating agencies. The party’s spokesperson Manoj Jha slammed the agencies and said that legally admissible evidence was not considered and it was set aside. He said that the two most powerful people in the country are trying to intimidate them.”Politically I know this regime, they have this typical Standard Operating Procedure: Try to make a deal with your opposition, if you fail, then scare them,” Jha said.Senior RJD leaders Abdul Bari Siddiqui and Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said that the party will continue to fight the legal battle in the higher courts. Siddiqui asked why Lalu Prasad Yadav was being singled out even as Chief Ministers preceding him were also involved in this issue.”The case was on excess withdrawal from Deogarh treasury. Laluji has been charged with connivance as he was the finance minister then – the charge is not direct. The withdrawal had been taking place since 1977. There were several chief ministers who were in charge of the finance department when Laluji was not the finance minister or the chief minister so why is he being singled out?” said Siddiqui.Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said that the party had no alternative but to move to high court and continue the fight legally as well as politically. The CBI court will pronounce the punishment to Yadav on January 3 and he was taken to Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi.—With agency inputs.

I will give them a ‘muh-tod jawab’. Narendra Modi ji ka khaal udhedva denge (will get Narendra Modi’s skin flayed,” Tej Pratap said outside Bihar legislative assembly on Monday, when asked about to comment on the scaling down of Z+ security cover to Lalu.Tej Pratap said, “The security that has been reduced… everyone knows that we have a lot of programmes scheduled and Lalu ji also attends many of them. If anything happens to my father, then who will take its responsibility?”The BJP has come down heavily on Tej Pratap’s comment threatening to drag him to the court over it.”Tej Pratap needs to consult psychiatrists and learn restraint from some good advisors,” said Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey, while his cabinet colleague Suresh Sharma too termed Tej Pratap mentally unstable.Lalu’s younger son and leader of the Opposition in Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said Modi will be responsibile if any untoward incident happened to his father.Less than a week ago, their mother and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi too had made a similar remark, saying there were many in Bihar who were ready to slit the PM’s throat, while Tej himself had targeted Sushil Kumar Modi, the deputy CM of Bihar, a few days ago saying he would assault him in his house (ghar mein ghus ke marenge) and disrupt his son’s wedding next month.Meanwhile, Lalu said he was not scared by such tactics and that the people of Bihar and even their children were there to protect him. “They have been slapping false cases against me and my family members to intimidate me.They are afraid of me and have reduced security to restrict my movement and for harm to come my way,” he said. Lalu added that he had spoken to Tej Pratap over his comments and asked him not to repeat it.

But those who use this kind of foul language are taught a lesson by the countrymen,” Modi told ANI.Earlier in the day, Tej Pratap alleged the Centre was conspiring to get his father killed and that, to this end, he would get Prime Minister Modi “skinned”.Tej Pratap’s remark came in the wake of the Centre’s decision to completely withdraw the NSG (National Security Guard) security cover provided to Lalu Yadav. His Z-Plus security category has also been downgraded to ‘Z’ category.‘Despite that (security downgrade), our programmes are continuing and Lalu Yadav is addressing rallies. However, this is a conspiracy to get him (Lalu) murdered, but we will give a befitting reply to them (the Centre). The Yadav leader thanked Rahul and said, “Thank you @OfficeOfRG for taking me out for wonderful lunch. Feel appreciated and grateful. Again thanks for taking out time out of your tight schedule.” He, however, did not elaborate on the meeting.”The two share an easy rapport. Earlier this month, Rahul ji had wished Tejashwi over the phone on his birthday,” said an RJD leader in Bihar. At a time when Rahul is busy stumping for Gujarat election, and in light of the corruption charges levelled against Tejashwi and his family members and the ongoing inquiry in the land for Railways’ hotel scam, the meeting assumes much significance.Rahul’s Congress was a part of the Grand Alliance government, which came to power in Bihar in November 2015, in which Tejashwi was the deputy CM. Even after its disintegration, both RJD and Congress have been supporting each other in Bihar.

I understand that BJP does not face any threat in Gujarat,” predicted Nitish, negating Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s emergence as a challenger there.Nitish was replying to mediapersons after his weekly Lok Samvad programme on Monday. He disagreed with Gujarat polls being a semi-final for the 2019 Lok Sabha election, and pitched for holding of simultaneous polls, though he conceded that it will require much debate and discussion and was not immediately enforceable.Besides extending support to his ally, Nitish targeted his opponent and arch rival Lalu Prasad Yadav saying RJD’s party polls were a trick to hog media limelight. “The RJD is not a political party but Lalu’s personal property. The election for RJD president was held last year itself. What sort of a constitution does the party have,” Nitish said.He was replying to question on Lalu filing his nomination for the post of RJD president for the 10th term and being the only candidate to do so. Nitish said the RJD will be back to pavillion in the next assembly polls. On Lalu’s younger son and leader of the Opposition in Bihar legislative assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, Nitish said he was still a kid and there was no need to reply to his comments. The Bihar CM said he had discussed the issue of cow vigilantism with PM Modi, who was in agreement that action should be taken against “gau rakshaks” as per the laws of the land. “I have ordered strict action against those who take laws in their hands,” he added. On a query related to Jammu and Kashmir, Nitish differed with National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah’s stand, saying, “My view is that Kashmir is an inseparable part of India and so is Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.”

And I am not saying that just because he is my son.”However, Lalu’s statement triggered notes of discord within the party with senior leaders like party vice-president Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and former Bihar finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui claiming that it was too early to declare who would lead the party in the next polls. “No decision has been taken yet. Purbe may have expressed his personal sentiments,” they said.Following their statement, Lalu too rephrased his statement saying, “There is a lot of time for the election. The CM face will be decided by the party when the time comes.”

The tragedy left the government which enforced total prohibition on April 5, 2016.In capital Patna alone, nearly 300 people have been arrested since the launch of the special drive on October 29. Sources said hotels and restaurants are particularly being checked for liquor, while patrolling in border areas too has increased. The tragedy has singed the police department too. More than 200 policemen are facing suspension for dereliction of duty, said the sources. The hooch deaths have given the Opposition fresh ammo to attack the government, with RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav claiming that prohibition is a total failure in Bihar where liquor is now being “home-delivered”. He said on Wednesday, “Some top JD-U leaders are taking a cut from liquor mafias. What more does one need to say on that?”Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Lalu’s son and leader of opposition in assembly, said, “The CM should make public how many of his party leaders and workers have been booked under the prohibition law?” asked Tejashwi, who had earlier shared the picture of a “liquor mafia cum JD-U worker” clicking a selfie with the CM. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said that Yadav stood by his beliefs and principles where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar got buoyed by power. ?Sharad Yadav was one of the founding members of JD(U). Talking to reporters after meeting the prime minister, the LJP leader said Modi assured him that the Union government in coordination with the Nitish Kumar dispensation had taken effective steps to help the affected families. He said 9-10 districts of Bihar were facing a grave flood crisis. “It is something I have not seen since 1987. It is very grave and the government is working on a war footing to provide relief to people. It is natural that people will suffer due to the enormity of the flood… The prime minister said all help is being provided to Bihar,” he said. The food minister said both the central as well as the state government were doing their best to help people. He also rejected opposition RJD’s criticism of relief effort, wondering if party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was aware of the situation in advance. Paswan said Yadav had done nothing during the years of his party’s government to deal with the almost ‘annual flood crisis’ hitting the state. The Union minister added that the food supply meant for the flood-affected was abundant, but presence of high waters everywhere had made the job of dropping the material difficult. The toll in Bihar flood has risen to 56 as 69.81 lakh people have been hit by inundation in 13 districts of the state.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

While Lalu may not have seen it coming, you really can’t keep bharosa on anyone in politics. Like they say in politics, keep your friends close and enemies closer. Check out the video below:Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said he had no option but to walk out of the grand alliance as continuing in the coalition would have meant compromising with corruption.Kumar, who recently jettisoned Lalu Prasad’s RJD and went back to the NDA fold after a 4-year hiatus, forming a coalition government with BJP and Ram Vilas Paswan’s LJP, also praised Narendra Modi, saying “nobody has the strength to take on the prime minister.””There were corruption charges and cases were filed by the CBI (against Lalu Prasad and family). I had only told them to come out with proper answers. Instead, they made fun of me saying whether I was a CBI official or the police,” he told a press conference.”Laluji did not give any clarification on corruption charges. How could I remain silent after having talked about zero tolerance to corruption? Now I have a feeling that they did not have a proper answer,” Kumar said.Kumar also defended himself against criticism over breaking a secularist alliance. “What does secularism mean? Does secularism mean making property worth thousands of crore of rupees?” he asked.Meanwhile, the Patna High Court today dismissed two PILs challenging the formation of a new government by Nitish Kumar, saying the court’s intervention was no longer required after the floor test in the state Assembly. While one public interest litigation was filed by RJD MLAs Saroj Yadav and Chandan Verma, the other was by Jitendra Kumar, a Samajwadi Party member.Kumar had comfortably won the confidence vote 131-108 on Friday. With inputs from PTI
<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Nitish Kumar, who resigned as Bihar Chief Minister earlier in the day, has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘congratulating’ him after his announcement. ?Whole heartedly thank PM Modi for response through his tweet about our decision,? Nitish tweeted. The dissonance in the Bihar politics came ostensibly to the fore-front when on Wednesday evening Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from his post, thereby, ending the ‘mahagathbandhan’. Nitish handed over his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and confirmed it to the media even as he emerged after meeting him. “The Governor has accepted my resignation. I did everything a chief of a party in alliance should do. I myself have given away the post. Now, you will have to wait and see what happens next,” he said. The development came hours after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav earlier in the day took a jibe at Nitish Kumar, saying he was aware of his longtime friend?s party’s – Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) – growing bonhomie with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following this, Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to “congratulate” Nitish. “Huge congratulations to Nitish Kumar that he quit in the name of going against corruption. The 125 crore people of India support him,” he posted. While the Congress is disappointed with Nitish’s decision, the BJP has welcomed the move.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)
<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that the withdrawal of tarmac access for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi is a welcome sign, as it gives out a message that there is no space for VVIP culture in a democracy. Speaking to ANI here, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said that the step initiated by the civil aviation industry asserts that every individual in a democratic nation is important. ?It is a very welcome step by the civil aviation ministry and it also sends out a strong message that every individual is important and there is no VVIP in a democracy. This principle needs to be followed,? said Bhatia. Echoing similar sentiments, another BJP leader S. Prakash asserted that Yadav, who is a convict out on bail, deserves no special treatment. ?Lalu Prasad Yadav is a convict, he is out on bail. How can VVIP treatment and special category status be accorded to a convict? Whatever steps have been taken are correct,? said Prakash. The Central Government yesterday scrapped Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi’s direct access to Patna Airport tarmac. Their ‘privilege’ has been scrapped by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This move has been taken as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim to end the VVIP culture rampant among politicians.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)
<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Peacemaking efforts between allies Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) do not seem to have produced desired results, with the deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Prasad Yadav skipping a state government event in which CM Nitish Kumar was in attendance on Saturday. The Bihar government had organised a function on the occasion of ‘World Youth Skill Day’, where CM Kumar and Yadav were slated to share the dais as the chief guest and special guest, respectively. Newspaper adverts had also confirmed the presence of both leaders. However, minutes before the CM arrived at the event, a plaque bearing Yadav’s designation, was first covered with a notepad and later removed. Thus confirming that the Yadav scion will not share the frame with the JD-U president.Kumar also distanced himself from RJD quota minister Vijay Prakash at the event when he changed his seat with JD-U’s Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh “for a better view of the TV screen and to avoid the air conditioner”.The tussle between the grand alliance partners in Bihar commenced after Yadav’s name figured in the July 5 FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged land-for-hotels corruption case. RJD President Lalu Yadav and his wife and former CM Rabri Devi have been made co-accused in the case. While the RJD rallied behind the junior Yadav, praising his work and stating that there was no need for him to resign in a clear case of “political vendetta”, the JD-U had given him a “four-day ultimatum”, which expired on Saturday, to come out clean on the charges against him by making his asset details and sources of income public.A war of words ensued between the allies as the CM’s party indirectly mounted pressure for Yadav’s resignation over the issue. However, Lalu, on Friday night, reiterated that his son was not going to step down over an FIR lodged against him, adding that there was no threat to the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar. The RJD on Saturday threatened that all its ministers – 11 in total – will quit if Tejashwi was sacked by the CM, though it was likely that the party will not pull out of the alliance.Sources said that all parties are now waiting for the July 17 Presidential polls before making a further move, though a meeting of JD-U MLAs is scheduled at the CM’s place on Sunday while the RJD and Congress legislators will meet the same evening.

Lalu on Friday said that he would eradicate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for interfering in the grand alliance of his party with the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), adding he would do everything to break the arrogance of Prime Minister Modi. ?With illogical statements, the BJP Government is trying to destroy the alliance of the RJD and the JD(U). We will eradicate the saffron party as they are trying to interfere in our alliance. Listen Modi and Amit Shah, I and the public will break your arrogance even if I have to get hanged for that,? Yadav told media here. ?I have made you (Prime Minster Modi) walk away from Bihar and you are trying to create disturbances in our alliance. I will break your arrogance,? he added. He added that there was no reason to involve Rabri Devi and Tejaswi Yadav in the investigation as his wife is “not even a public servant.” The CBI, earlier in the day, registered a corruption case against Lalu; Rabri Devi; Tejaswi Yadav; former Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Managing Director P.K. Goyal; and the wife of Lalu’s confidante Prem Chand Gupta, Sujata on allegations of awarding the tender for development, maintenance and operation of hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that lawful proceedings are taking place which will reach its culmination and that any sort of political campaign against Yadav should be avoided. ?I think these don?t require any comment from a political party, these are legal proceeding. It clearly points that the Lalu got these properties for obliging his partymen with MLC posts.”Modi also said that two more plots along the same strip was owned by Rabri’s brother and RJD leader Prem Chand Gupta. “RJD MP and housing society’s chairman Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav also got a new plot (223) registered in his name, despite already having the lease of plot number 223,” the BJP leader said and accused the RJD of ‘occupying’ 95 per cent of the society’s posts and misusing it.He demanded that a detailed report on the irregularities of the Cooperative Society, prepared by the Patna District Magistrate and submitted to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, should be made public and allotment of plot to violators of the by-laws should be cancelled.Hitting back, Lalu’s younger son and deputy CM of Bihar Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who has been at the receiving end ever since Modi made his string of ‘exposes’ starting April 4, said, “Modi is trying to hide his own black money and shady deals, because of which he makes so much noise about others.” Lalu replied to the tweet saying, “These people (Modi) disown their blood relations to hide their black money.”

I believe this is fairly procedural thing, but what disturbs us all that suddenly a television channel writes ?this and that impact’,? <!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Coming down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to pose himself as Lord Ram, adding he wants to dictate the country which will ultimately ruin the system. ?Prime Minister Modi wants to become Ram and tells people to be like ?Bajrangbali? and listen to him quietly without any questions. He wants to become a dictator. Under his rule this country will not flourish and neither will it be secure,? Lalu said in a press conference here. He added that the BJP has made India the biggest supplier of beef but is manhandling and assaulting those who are using cows for the dairy products. ?The Prime Minister said that after demonetisation the incidents of stone pelting will stop in Kashmir, also Naxal activities will stop. Instead, inflation is on the rise, unemployment is increasing and communalism is increasing as well,? he asserted. This government does not think about its people,? he said. While talking about the rift in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Lalu said that sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra has been thrown out of the party that is why he has been putting allegations on Kejriwal and others. ?He grew along with the party and now he is exposing about the wrong doings. <!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Supreme Court was today critical of the Jharkhand High Court orders quashing criminal conspiracy charges against former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra while retaining them against other accused in the same facts and circumstances. The apex court said the courts need to be “careful and consistent” in their findings as people have faith in the system and it should not take different view in same matters with respect to different accused in same facts and case. “The court ought to have been careful while dealing with matters and consistency is the hallmark of the court due to which people have faith in the system and it is not open to the court to take a different view in the same matter with reference to different accused persons in the same facts and same case,” a bench of Justice Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy said. While dealing with former RJD MP R K Rana’s verdict where the Jharkhand High Court in contrast to finding given in Lalu Yadav case in fodder scam where it has quashed the trial said it is constrained to observe that the same judge had taken a different view. In Rana’s case, the same high court judge had noted that there was some overlapping of facts but the offences were different and hence needed separate trial. “Judicial discipline requires that such a blatant contradiction in such an important matter should have been avoided. The order passed in the case of Dr R K Rana was on sound basis and though the court had noted that there was some overlapping of facts but the offences were different, it, however, has taken a different view in the impugned order for the reasons which are not understandable,” it said. The bench said that such “inconsistent decision-making” ought to have been avoided at all costs so as to ensure credibility of the system. “The impugned orders are palpably illegal, faulty and contrary to the basic principles of law and Judge has ignored large number of binding decisions of this Court while giving impermissible benefit to the accused persons and delayed the case for several years. “Interference had been made at the advanced stage of the case which was wholly unwarranted and uncalled for. Let now amends be made by expediting the trial without any further hindrance from any quarter,” the bench said.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> In a development signalling no end to the Yadav clan war, Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Whip Naresh Agarwal on Wednesday sought directions from the Rajya Sabha Chairman to push the seats Amar Singh and Beni Prasad Verma Yadav, who are loyalists of party patriarch Mulayam Singh, towards the end of the House. Agarwal wrote a letter in this regard to Hamid Ansari, following which the chairman, pushed their seats at the back as opposed to their original allotment. The development is being seen as nothing but pure grudge towards Amar Singh and Beni Prasad Yadav for their loyalties towards founder of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh, over Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. ?According to the Chairman?s office, seats are allotted keeping in mind the number of Parties. After which, the number of seats are procured by the party at a particular spot. Going further, which seat would be taken by whom is decided by the Chief Whip of the party, which he gives in written and the plan is agreed upon. And that is how we have acted upon Naresh Agarwal?s letter and have pushed the seats of MP?s behind?, Rajya Sabha office notified. It may be recalled that during the infamous Akhilesh and Mulayam?s fallout, both Amar Singh and Beni Prasad Yadav tended their allegiance towards Mulayam, following which the party patriarch issued the ticket to Beni?s son Rakesh Verma, which was later cancelled by Akhilesh. Rumours of Rakesh joining the BJP also surfaced post the development, adding to the tension.(This article has not been edited by DNA’s editorial team and is auto-generated from an agency feed.)
