Karnataka stands with Deepika Padukone, Khattar should take action against those threatening her: Siddaramaiah

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today asked his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar to take “stringent action” against those threatening actress Deepika Padukone who is being targeted by fringe groups for her lead role in “Padmavati”.Coming out in support of the actress, the state government said security would be provided to the actress whenever she is in Bengaluru and her family, who hail from Karnataka, in the wake of threats issued to her by several outfits which allege the period film distorted history and hurt sentiments of their community.Deepika is the daughter of badminton icon Prakash Padukone, who lives in Bengaluru.Other crew members, including director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika’s co-star Ranveer Singh, are also facing threats by fringe outfits who claim the film wrongly portrayed the legendary 13th century queen of Chittor Padmavati who is revered by them.”Padmavati” stars Deepika Padukone in the titular role.Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji.Siddaramaiah’s reaction came following a reported threat by the Haryana BJP media cell in charge, Suraj Pal Amu announcing a bounty of Rs 10 crore on the actress. The reported threat came after a fringe group Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha (ABKM) announced a reward of Rs one crore for those “burning Padukone alive.” Retweeting Karnataka energy minister D K Shivakumar’s tweet, Siddaramaiah commented, “I condemn the culture of intolerance & hate perpetuated by @BJP4India. Karnataka stands with @deepikapadukone.””She is a globally renowned artist from our state. I call upon the CM of Haryana @mlkhattar to take strict action against those holding out threats against her,” he said.Shivakumar tweeted, “It is condemnable that a BJP office bearer is placing a bounty of Rs 10 crore on @deepikapadukone, who is from our state & the daughter of one of India’s most respected sportsman.””Is this BJP’s culture & the way they show respect towards women? Immediate action should be taken.” He said he will write to the chief minister to offer protection to Padukone. He demanded that the BJP apologise and make sure that intimidation doesn’t happen. The minister appealed to all Indians, especially women and artistes, to speak for upholding freedom granted by the Constitution.Karnataka Home minister Ramalinga Reddy told PTI the state will provide security to the actress and her family in the wake of the threats.”Whenever Deepika is here in Karnataka, we will ensure that she gets adequate security. We will also provide security cover to her family staying here,” Reddy said. The makers of ‘Padmavati’ have denied the charge that it distorts history and deferred its release from the slated December 1.They have said the film was a cinematic masterpiece capturing “Rajput valour, dignity and tradition in all its glory.”

Protest erupts in Chittorgarh against flick Padmavati

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The parapets of the Chittorgarh Fort that have been witness to the life of queen Padmawati aka Padmini today saw the protest organised against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmawati. The protest was led by Rajput Karni Sena and Rajput community and was joined by the local unit of Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal along with local Muslim organisations. No pre-release activity without taking us in confidence
No dream love sequence between Khilji and Padmawati
No commercial cashing in on the personal love life of Deepika and Ranveer Singh who play Khilji and Padmawati by distorting history and dignity of Padmawati. Bhansali has gone back on his word. We do not want any compromise. We demand a ban. Nothing less,” said Kalvi.Padmawati is based on the life of the valiant queen of Chittorgarh. Tales of her beauty mesmerised Allaudin Khilji and he expressed the desire to see her. Cutting the tale short what ensued was a battle, and when Padmawati got the news of the defeat and death of her husband, she along with thousands of women committed jauhar inside the Chittorgarh Fort. All Khilji found when he reached there were her ashes. The Rajputs are unhappy ever since they came across an interview of Ranveer Singh where he spoke about a dream love sequence between Khilji and Padmawati. Earlier this year, members of the organisation had manhandled Bhansali while he was shooting in Jaipur. They had reached an agreement with Bhansali productions about Padmawati not being projected contrary her dignity.Incidentally, Rajput Karni Sena is the same organisation that had opposed Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film Jodha Akbar. The protests had turned so widespread that no cinema hall agreed to release the film and ultimately Jodha Akbar was not released in Rajasthan. Rajput Karni Sena wants to repeat the feat with Padmawati.

The three youths wanted to make their family proud by being army men. Their forefathers were in the army and they wanted to continue the family legacy. The 350 students caught cheating will be debarred by the Indian Army to appear from all their competitive exams. The Thane police department has the original documents of the candidates, which were found in the place of raid. Candidates from Haryana, Goa, Pune, Satara and various other states and cities were appearing for the exams. These candidates lined up outside the Thane Crime Branch Unit I to collect the documents so that they could leave for their hometowns.”My family has asked me to not return back home until I have the original documents but I am fortunate that we did not pay even a single penny to the agents”, said a 26-year-old resident of Jalgaon. “We are sleeping at railway station and in the police ground as we have to also give our statements and prove that the domicile certificates we submitted to the army were not fake”, said the candidate. But for the three brothers from Haryana, the crackdown by Thane police has snatched away their dreams to continue the legacy of the forefathers. “My entire family is in the army and it continued from my forefathers and since several generations we continue to serve the army. We came across the coaching centre for written exams and this now has become our life’s biggest problem”, said Ranveer Singh Dahiya, a resident of Haryana.A spokesperson from Army Southern Command in Pune confirmed that the students who were caught by the police would not be allowed to appear in any exams. “The investigation is being carried out and the Delhi Headquarters has initiated the procedures against the tainted officers,” said a spokesperson. ‘Never buying your car ever again’: Ford India posts sexist poll on Twitter, users hit back

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>When a well-known automobile company such as Ford decides to use a sexist angle to engage its followers on Twitter there is only one way the social media campaign is headed— down. The Ford India posted a rather obnoxious poll this morning on its official Twitter page. It read: “How do people behave when they are following women/elderly or people learning to drive? #WhatDoPeopleDo.”It asked people to select from the following options:-Honk repeatedly
