AAP sharpens attack after LG rejects home delivery scheme

"The BJP is getting sealing (drive) across Delhi. The BJP has got the doorstep delivery proposal of government's services rejected. The BJP has tried to stop the file of mohalla clinics through the LG.
"Why does the BJP want to destroy Delhi?" he tweeted. Labour Minister and AAP's Delhi unit convenor Gopal Rai said the LG's decision to return the proposal "defied logic". "The BJP is resorting to dirty politics and taking help of the Lt Governor's office," he claimed. Rai alleged that the Delhi BJP leaders cared little for the city and their motto was to keep obstructing the works being done by the Arvind Kejriwal government. The Delhi Cabinet had approved the proposal for doorstep delivery of essential public services last month and sent it for approval to the LG. ”

Blocked by Sushma Swaraj on Twitter for asking ‘tough questions’: Congress MP Bajwa

Sushma Swaraj has gained fame in the Twitterverse for always coming to help of Indians and foreigners stranded, who are in need of visa or any diplomatic assistance. Infact, External Affairs Minister’s Twitter diplomacy has earned her bipartisan praise and even applause from international quarters. However, there seems to be one politician who is unhappy with Sushma Swaraj’s Twitter habits. It is senior Congress leader from Punjab and currently Member of Parliament, Partap Singh Bajwa. On Wednesday, Partap Singh Bajwa from his verified handle posted a screenshot of being blocked on Twitter by External Affairs Minister. Bajwa claims that he was merely asking questions about the missing 39 Indians in Iraq. MEA so far has said that according to their last known information, the Indians are alive, but they haven’t been able to locate them. Bajwa claims that he was blocked merely for asking ‘tough questions’. Now, politicians in general and even Sushma Swaraj have resorted to blocking abusive trolls and sometimes people who constantly pester with similar rants. But this is probably the first time when a MP has been blocked by his colleague. Swaraj is currently followed by 10.8 million people. Probably in the torrent of replies she gets with every tweet, the fact that a MP was being blocked was overlooked.

Will Rajinikanth enter politics? Thalaiva to make announcement on December 31st

Amid speculations over his entry into politics, superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday said that that he would make the announcement on the issue on December 31.The 67-year-old, while speaking on the Day 1 of the ‘Fan Fest’, said that he was not saying that he would announce his political entry on December 31st, but his decision on politics.Rajinikanth’s comments came after National Award winning actor Kamal Haasan announced last month about his decision to enter politics and float his own party after touring the state. Haasan took to Twitter to blast the ruling AIADMK government after the demise of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa last year.Addressing his fans, Thalaiva said that the media seems to be more interested in his political entry than the people, he said that he was in the politics since 1996, referring to his support to DMK-Tamil Maanila Congress to unseat AIADMK government led by the then chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the state polls.”I know the pros and cons of the politics. That’s why I am hesitating. Otherwise I would have been already in it,” he said.Recalling his statement that ‘let us see when the war comes,’ he asked did war means election? “If it is war, you have to win it. To emerge victorious in the war, one not only require courage but also strategy. I will tell my decision on politics on December 31,” he said.During his meeting with fans in May earlier this year, the actor triggered speculation on his political entry with his “the system is rotten in Tamil Nadu” comment. “We have good leaders but the system is rotten. This system needs to be changed and a change has to be brought in the minds of people, then only will the country flourish. Let us all work together to bring about a change,” he had said.On the criticism that he is an outsider and not a Tamilian, Rajinikanth had said: “I lived in Karnataka for 23 years and Tamil Nadu for 43 years. Although I came as a Marathi from Karnataka, you people nurtured me, made me true Tamilian. I am a pure Tamil. My forefathers were from Krishnagiri district.” He added that if some in Tamil Nadu were to ask him to leave the state, he would rather go to the Himalayas than settle down in any other state.Following the death of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and ailing DMK chief M Karunanidhi, there is more pressure from his fans to take a political plunge considering the political vacuum.Tamil Nadu has a history of film personalities succeeding in politics. The film script writer – DMK founder CN Annadurai and his successor M Karunanidhi – went to become chief ministers while matinee idols – AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, and his successor J Jayalalithaa – also occupied the CM chair.

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s conviction becomes breather for the BJP

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s conviction in fodder scam provided the much needed adrenaline boost to the BJP that was facing Congress heat on its “anti-corruption” plank after the 2G verdict and quashing of the case against former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan by the Bombay High Court.Leading the BJP attack, cabinet minister JP Nadda targeted both, the Congress and the RJD. “The alliance between Congress and Lalu Yadav’s party is an alliance of corruption, connivance and cheating the people of India, it is clear from the verdict of the court,” he said.He also blamed Lalu Prasad for politicising the verdict. “He is even now politicising the issue instead of accepting the verdict, just to deviate attention he is leveling allegations of conspiracy against the BJP,” Nadda said. After his conviction by the special CBI court, Lalu had blamed the onslaught of bias driven propaganda by the BJP and its nexus with the CBI for the verdict.Lalu’s long time adversary, deputy chief minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi, who was one of the petitioners in the fodder scam PIL which resulted in a CBI inquiry and monitoring of the case by the Patna High Court, accused Lalu of playing politics.”Lalu was convicted for the first time during the UPA regime & is now blaming BJP? How can the BJP influence a judicial process? The Court has convicted Lalu not BJP,” Modi said in Patna.”This had to happen. You reap what you sow,” Modi added.Senior BJP leader from Bihar, law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who also was one of the prime movers of the case against Lalu, described the verdict as a lesson that law will catch up if you commit corruption.”For me, it is a matter of some personal assurance that I had the privilege to argue the PIL in Patna High Court in the early 90s leading to the institution of the CBI inquiry, which was strongly opposed by the then state government headed by Lalu Prasad Yadav.”Lesson of today’s conviction of Lalu Prasad is that law will catch up with you if you commit corruption,” Ravi Shankar added.Defiant Lalu lashes out on TwitterNew Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was defiant even as the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court in Ranchi convicted him in the fodder scam. Yadav took to Twitter and shot off eleven tweets in 22 minutes. He slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and termed its politics as “immoral and malicious” and said that the “wily” party was using rhetoric to hide its “misdeeds” and to sully public perception of the opposition. Yadav also likened his circumstances and conviction to that of former South African President and anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, American civil rights activist Martin Luther King and even Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Delhi unveils new weapon against pollution, tests ‘anti-smog gun’ in Anand Vihar

Will Delhi breathe easy again? The answer lies in the success of the trial of anti-smog gun, the brand new weapon against pollution, which was tested by the officials in Anand Vihar on Wednesday. The tests of the ‘fog gun’ dubbed as anti-smog gun at the Anand Vihar ISBT would determine the future of Delhi’s lungs. While the authorities hope it will clear the skies above New Delhi but the environmentalists say the anti-smog gun amounts to a band-aid solution. The cannon consists of a cylindrical drum with a tank to store water and a high-velocity exhaust fan. The gun, when ‘fired’, sprays atomised water into the air and reduces pollution.Earlier in November, the National Capital was engulfed in toxic smog for more than a week. In fact, the air quality was so worse that in some areas, the authorities reported an Air Quality Index of 999, which was way above the upper limit of the worst category, Hazardous. Even on Wednesday, when the trial took place, Delhi’s pollution level was in the severe zone with an AQI of 413.On November 7, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter and said that ‘Delhi has become a gas chamber.’“I´m used to living in paradise and suddenly India has become a threat to my health and the health of my friends and colleagues,” Costa Rica’s ambassador to India, Mariela Cruz Alvarez had written in her viral blog.

The issues will be different. Whatever may the Gujarat poll results be, it will have no impact on Karnataka,” Adityanath told reporters at Yadgir in the northern parts of the state. However, the results of the Gujarat assembly elections result did not go down well with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The TMC chief on Monday attacked BJP saying it was a moral defeat for the Hindutva-party the people of the state have “belled the cat for 2019″.”It is a temporary and face-saving win, but it shows a moral defeat for BJP. Gujarat voted against atrocities, anxiety and injustice caused to the common people. Gujarat belled the cat for 2019,” Banerjee tweeted.Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah for winning the Assembly polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.”Congratulations to honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the victory in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. The Congress, which had claimed it would wrest power from the BJP in Gujarat, has ended up losing even Himachal Pradesh,” Kumar tweeted in Hindi.Goa Chief Minister Manohhar Parrikar said the newly-elected Congress President “scored zero in his opening innings.” “In his opening innings he scored zero” Parrikar said. Earlier on Monday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the results of the Gujarat Assembly polls would not have any impact on the Assembly election in the state, which is due early next year.”The election results of one state will not have an effect on the election of another state. Whatever may the Gujarat poll results be, it will have no impact on Karnataka,” he told reporters at Yadgir in the northern parts of the state.Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday took to Twitter to mock BJP’s victory in Gujarat.”BJP getting limited to double-digit in Gujarat is the beginning of the end for the party. It is the result of neglect of the villages, poor and rural people. Five years of Nirbhaya case: Mamata Banerjee calls for keeping society safe

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today urged people to resolve to keep the society safe, recalling the brutal gang-rape and murder of a paramedic student in Delhi five years back.”Remembering #Nirbhaya on the 5th anniversary of brutal Delhi incident. We cannot compensate her loss but let us resolve to keep our society safe,” Banerjee wrote on Twitter. The 23-year-old woman was gang-raped on December 16, 2012 in a moving bus in Delhi, and later died in hospital.Earlier in the day, Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Maliwal lamented the long-winding legal process allowed the criminals to feel they can get away with such henious crimes. She urged the prime minister to bring in a legislation wherein at least those convicted of raping minors are given death penalty within six months.Nirbhaya, a para-medical student, was brutally gang-raped on the intervening night of December 16, 2012, in a moving bus in South Delhi. The incident took place while she was returning with a friend after watching a movie. She died 13 days after the incident at a hospital in Singapore.Of the six men arrested in the case, one of the accused Ram Singh hanged himself in prison in March 2013, while another man, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, was convicted in August. Last year, he was released from the correction home after serve the maximum sentence of three years in a reform home. The other four — Akshay, Vinay Sharma, Pawan and Mukesh — were found guilty and sentenced to death by the Delhi High Court in September 2013. The Supreme Court also upheld the high court’s decision.”It’s the fifth death anniversary of Nirbhaya incident and the fact is that nothing has changed in this country.Everyday girls and women are being brutally raped in this country,” she said.Maliwal also highlighted the need for having fast-track courts in the city so that rapists are punished forthwith. Also, there is a need to upgrade the delivery mechanism of the forensic department as well as the accountability of the police, she said in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”The system has made the criminals confident enough to believe that they can get away with any crime perpetrated against a woman or a child.”It is very unfortunate that even Nirbhaya herself has not got justice in this country. Nirbhaya’s mother is still running from pillar to post in order to ensure that her beloved daughter can get justice,” Maliwal said. The DCW chief said that at least in case of rape of minor girls, there should be a law in this country in which such rapists should be punished and given death penalty within six months. She also made an appeal to the prime minister to constitute a high-level committee on women’s safety in Delhi, having the Union home minister, the lieutenant governor, the chief minister, the police commissioner and the DCW representatives as its members, to take effective decisions on issues of women’s safety.Drawing the prime minister’s attention to the Nirbhaya fund, which has remained unutilised till date, Maliwal urged him to devolve the fund immediately to the states failing which the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme will lose its relevance.

Rajasthan hacking: Taslima Nasreen writes ‘intolerance at peak, Muslims can be killed easily’

On Friday, exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen set the cats among the pigeons when she spoke out against defending killers of one’s religion. Ostensibly talking about Shambulal Regar, who had hacked Mohammed Afrazul to death and burnt the body on December 6 in Rajasthan. She had written on Twitter: “If you defend the killers who kill for your religion, you are not different from those who defend the killers who kill for their religion.”Afrazul had migrated to Rajsamand district in Rajasthan from West Bengal for work. Shambulal had roped in his 14-year-old nephew to film the killing. After the barbaric act, Shambulal posted videos of the killing with inflammatory and communal comments to defend the act. Also readRajasthan hacking: Rs 2.75 lakh deposited in Shambulal Regar’s wife’s account before being frozenThe comments come a day after Nasreen had written an article for The Print, comparing the act to those of ISIS-like extremists She wrote: “But I have seen how Shambhulal brutally murdered Afrazul in Rajasthan, courtesy his nephew’s video on the internet. They can be killed because they invaded India, destroyed temples and plundered villages, converted Hindus, took over a Hindu land and ruled over Hindus. And now, they have commenced ‘love jihad’.” She wrote that when she criticised the video, many defended Shambulal, similar ire she claims to have faced for condemning Gau Rakshaks (cow vigilantes). She added: “Intolerance is at its peak now. I have discussed irrational Hindu rituals and oppression of women earlier but never received such threats.”Taslima Nasreen’s strong words created stir on Twitter with many right-wing users strongly condemning her views.

Gujarat elections 2017: Seaplanes for aam janta haven’t moved past MoU stage as yet

Amdavadis were treated to the sight of Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking off in a seaplane from Sabarmati riverfront to Dharoi Dam to offer prayers at Ambaji temple on Tuesday, the last day of campaigning before the second phase. This has given Amdavadis hope of travelling by a seaplane themselves in the near future, but little do they know that though a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding this connectivity was signed at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit this year, nothing concrete has happened after that.DNA had reported in January that to boost aviation, the government had planned seaplane connectivity — wherever there is a water body — across Gujarat. An MoU was signed between Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Ltd (GUJSAIL) and Supreme Airlines to promote this new mode of transport. Speaking to DNA, Captain Akash Agarwal, vice-president, Supreme Airlines, had said, “We will start operations by April this year from the Sabarmati riverfront, and thereafter connect various other destinations. Aviation enthusiasts can enjoy joy rides or use it to commute to tourist spots surrounded by water. We will invest Rs 40 crore. As of now, we operate in Rajasthan.”However, since there has been no talks this since then. Sources in aviation sector say the tendering process for seaplane connectivity is yet to be undertaken. “The MoU was signed with Supreme Airlines, which presently operates between Ahmedabad and Jodhpur,” says a source. “Perhaps they are looking for land and will begin the tendering process after that. As of now, nothing has happened on that front.”Speaking about PM’s seaplane, highly-placed sources said, “The entire arrangement was made by the Centre in partnership with SpiceJet. The central government intends to implement seaplane connectivity across the country. A demonstration was conducted recently in Mumbai and today (on Tuesday), there was another demonstration.””To implement amphibian planes,” informed another source, “firstly, a jetty is required, and then the necessary infrastructure. Once these are in place, various permissions will have to be sought.”TWITTER JIBEFormer J&K CM Omar Abdullah questioned the PM’s protocol on Twitter. “How is it that the security guidelines were relaxed for this flight? No Z+ protectee is allowed to fly in a single engine aircraft.”

From witty tweets to Khakra jokes: How Rahul Gandhi reinvented himself

Before the Gujarat assembly elections, a new Rahul Gandhi dawned upon us and got the media talking. The Congress president appeared to turn a new leaf, a more confident leader with a change in his attitude and persona. The first sign of change came when he started taking on PM Modi on Twitter, targeting him with jokes and memes. During his Gujarat campaign, we witnessed a certain change in him as he addressed large audiences in PM Modi’s home-state.From taking subtle digs at BJP to mixing ‘Khakra’ jokes in his speeches, he sure looked like a rejuvenated man. Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Ranesar, Gujarat on December 8 somehow reminded one of former US President Obama’s speech in India during his recent visit.Obama at HT summit in New Delhi recently cracked up the audience when he mentioned the Indian ‘Dal’ and how he likes it and how he is the only US President in history to know a dal recipe. While Rahul has a long way to go before he can capture the audience the way the former US President does, the new Congress honcho certainly seems to have learned to use the emotional quotient.Starting the speech with ‘Kemcho’ (a greeting in Gujarati), Rahul Gandhi managed to make the people in the audience smile by mentioning his love for ‘Khakra’ while addressing them in Ranesar. He joked about how the much-loved Gujarat snack was wreaking his diet plans, “Aap logo ne mujhe bigad diya hain hain and aadate bhi bigad diya hain, mera wajan bhi badh gaya hain (You all have spoiled me, and my habit and I think I have put on weight and it’s because of khakhra).”In another one of his rallies in Kalol, Rahul managed to add a humane angle in his speeches saying, ‘Till the time I am alive, I am with you people, I won’t forget the love you have given me in the past 3 months. If you ever need me, just call me, order me and I will get it done. You have made a relation with me, a lifelong relation, which will never break.”Rahul Gandhi was earlier criticised for dedicating too much time slamming PM Modi but this time he has somehow done it gently and smartly without deviating from his agenda. In one of his recent speeches, Rahul Gandhi said: “Modi ji, Gujarat mein hum aapko pyaar se, bina gusse ke haraane jaa rahe hain (PM Modi, this time in Gujarat we will defeat you with love, with no anger, we will defeat you).”Adding more fuel to the drama he said, “Modi ji keeps using bad words against me in his speeches, even today he did so. Rahul Gandhi respects the post of PM. No matter what PM says about me, but I won’t utter even a single bad word about the PM.”Of course, given he had torn up a draft ordinance of his own PM back in the day, that remark might be a tad economic with the truth, but it certainly hit the mark.Showing his firm side, Rahul Gandhi also announced the suspension of Mani Shankar Aiyar who had called PM Modi ‘neech’, sending out a strong message that such unparliamentary language won’t be tolerated from party members. This time Rahul Gandhi also tried to do away with the image that he was born with the silver spoon, when he said, “Mere pass zada kuch nahi hai, Modi ji ke pass sarkar hai, magar humaare pass sachchai hai, Hindustan sachchai ka desh hai (I don’t have too much, Modi has the government, but I have the truth and India is a country which believes in the truth)” And that’s not all, but, he has even admitted the error he made in one of his tweets. He had made a calculation error in price rise and inflation chart, which soon became a joke on Twitter. He wasted no time in accepting his mistake publicly, and tweeted saying, “For all my BJP friends: unlike Narendrabhai, I am human. We do make the odd mistake and that’s what makes life interesting. Thanks for pointing it out and please do keep it coming, it really helps me improve. Love you all.”However, for now all we have are speeches and tweets and jibes, and only time will tell whether the new Rahul Gandhi can challenge PM Modi on his own turf. For that we will have to wait for the results of Gujarat election, to know whether Rahul Gandhi has actually come of age or is simply old wine in a new bottle.

PM Modi you ‘killed’ my Indianness by branding me a terrorist sympathiser: Salman Nizami

An unknown entity in the political circles a week ago, Salman Nizami has become a topic of many TV debates and political discussion since Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned his name at a campaign rally on Saturday. Nizami, a Congress leader from Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday penned an open letter to Modi asking him if he was targeted because he is a “soft target” as a Muslim and a Kashmiri. In the letter, published on ABP News website, Nizami wrote, “I am a proud Kashmiri and a proud Indian, and I have always taken the most defiant stand against terrorists and terrorism. My family has spilled blood for holding up the integrity of this nation. My cousin was killed by terrorists.”Also readWho is Salman Nizami? Congress leader has had Twitter trouble in the past as wellNizami said that the tweets that the prime minister cited to claim that he was a “Azadi sympathiser” was “posted a few years back after pranksters hacked my Twitter handle.”He said that a he had complained to cyber police regarding this. Also readGujarat elections: Prime Minister Modi accuses Congress of ‘misleading Muslim community’, targets Salman NizamiThe former journalist wrote that by “killing” his Indianness, prime minister has done what terrorists ‘failed to do’. “Do you have any idea how life-threatening an attempt it is for a Kashmiri, who lives in terrorism-infested villages, to take on the terrorists? The terrorists subsequently attempted to kill me. But, failed,” he wrote. “Today, you have succeeded in ‘killing’ me. For you have killed my Indianness, you have branded me a terrorist sympathiser. You have so completely killed my existence. What terrorists could do, you have done.”Also readBJP releases Salman Nizami’s pictures with Shaktisinh Gohil to counter Congress claims of non-associationAttacking Modi, Nizami furhter said, “..once you are at 7 Race Course Road, you belong to everybody. Why do you continue to act as a BJP mascot and an RSS affiliate, who belongs to only his supporters? This is the reason why your report card as a PM is zero. You have never acted as a PM.”Prime Minister Narendra Modi had latched on to tweets by Nizami who, he said, was a Congress leader to tear into the opposition party for allegedly questioning his parentage. At an election rally at Lunawada, the prime minister said India was his father and mother, and like a good son, he will spend his entire life serving the country.”There is one Congress youth leader called Salman Nizami, who is campaigning for Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat. He said on Twitter that Rahul Gandhi’s father (Rajiv Gandhi) and grandmother (Indira Gandhi) had sacrificed their lives, while his great grandfather (Jawaharlal Nehru) was a freedom fighter. Okay, very good, we do not have a problem with that,” Modi said.”Then he (a reference to Nizami) went on to ask that Modi should answer who is his father and mother,” he said, quoting from the purported tweets of Nizami. The prime minister disapproved of the use of this kind of language in public discourse. “Do we use this language in public discourse? Do we ask such things, this Salman Nizami is their star campaigner?” Modi said.”What else has he tweeted, he is from Kashmir and he says he wants Aazad Kashmir. He called Indian armed forces rapists,” Modi said.Lashing out at Nizami, the prime minister said he has also glorified Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged for his crime.”That person has further said in his tweets that ‘ghar ghar se Afzal niklega’. Afzal Guru was sentenced to death by our courts and this man wants every home to produce Afzal.”Do you want Afzal in every home? Can you allow Afzals in Gujarat?” Modi asked the crowd at the rally in Lunawada, Mahisagar district, where the second phase of polling will be held on December 14.”The person who has spoken such things is campaigning for Rahul Gandhi. Should we forgive such people? Is this not an insult to our armed forces. To call our armed forces rapist is not their insult? Should we forgive such people?” Modi asked repeatedly. With inputs from PTI

No, Bandra-Worli Sea Link has not collapsed or closed due to Cyclone Ockhi

As heavy rains lashed Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra on Tuesday ahead of Cyclone Ockhi’s landfall, the WhatsApp “fake news” machinery was at work, spreading rumours and creating panic among the people. One “news” that is making the rounds on the messenger app in Mumbai is that Bandra-Worli Sea Link has collapsed. Many took to social media that they have received such message from their loved ones, warning them to stay away from the bridge. Many shared that they have received messages on WhatsApp that the bridge has been closed after it was submerged under the water. A video of showing huge waves engulfing the Bandra-Worli Sea Link has been shared by many. Also readCyclone Ockhi: Don’t panic in case of alert, evacuate when asked, advises NDMAMany on social media, however, debunked the the video and the news. Fake news debunker SMHoaxSlayer took to Twitter to state that the video which was being widely shared as huge waves engulfing the Bandra-Worli Sea Link was actually shot in Lakshadweep a few months ago. Yogita Limaye, a BBC correspondent based in Mumbai, also tweeted that she passed the Bandra-Worli Sea Link twice in two hours and it was “not closed, not flooded and definitely has not been submerged by waves.”Besides this, there are many other rumours spreading around on social media to create panic. The fact is there are heavy rains but rail and road traffic is still working very much fine in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Disaster Management Unit of BMC has said that the cyclone will have no impact on Mumbai City. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that minor damage will be caused to loose unsecured structures due to heavy rain and wind but people are advised not to panic in any case. The NDMA said people when asked to evacuate, should move to a designate cyclone shelter with safety kit and store dry food and water in abundance, keep torch and hurricane lantern/emergency light handy and keep listening to battery operated radio for latest information.

Is Kapil Sibal Congress party’s counsel? BJP questions lawyer’s plea to hear Ayodha case after July 2019

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Sunni Waqf board in Supreme Court on Tuesday urged that Ayodhya dispute matter should be heard only after July 2019. He said, that whenever this matter is heard, there are serious repercussions outside the court and to preserve the decorum of law and order, and that he personally requests court to take this matter up on July 15, 2019, once all the pleadings are complete. However the Supreme Court overruled his plea and fixed February 8, 2018 as next hearing date. However Sibal’s attempt to somehow delay the hearing post 2019 general elections attracted strong rebuke from BJP leaders on Twitter. Sambit Swaraj said, ” What has the Sunni Waqf Board to do with 2019 Elections? Kapil Sibal totally exposed ..represents the Congress’ views more than the Waqf Board’s view?Other Twitter users too slammed Kapil Sibal and he soon started trending on Twitter. Interestingly Congress leader Kapil Sibal was attacked by PM Modi for trying to ‘mislead’ people about Patidar quota. Modi said that whenever Congress had to mislead people, Kapil Sibal is roped in. Earlier, Sibal read out in the apex court the details of exhibits filed by the contesting defendants before the Allahabad High Court. He told the three-judge bench of the court that all the exhibits were not filed before this cour Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta, representing the state of Uttar Pradesh rebutted the averments of Kapil Sibal. The ASG also told the Supreme Court that all the related documents and requisite translation copies were on record.Sibal raised the doubts over the assertions of ASG Mehta and told the Supreme Court that ‘he and other petitioners have not been served relevant documents of pleadings.’According to reports, the top court was hearing a total of 13 appeals filed against the 2010 judgement of the Allahabad High Court in four civil suits. The stakeholders in the case had moved the apex court after the Allahabad HC directed the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and the Lord Ram Lalla to settle for a three-way division of the disputed site. With ANI inputs

Nitish Kumar says tweet war to show mirror to some people

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who had been mounting attack on the Opposition — a tweet a day — said on Monday that it was aimed at showing a mirror to some people.Nitish’s Twitter war commenced on November 27, when he obliquely targeted RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav over making an issue of his reduced central security cover. “I am a chief minister for the last 12 years but I never received any security from the Centre. Neither do I think about it, nor am I interested in it,” said Nitish, while addressing media persons after his weekly Lok Samvad programme on Monday.Nitish said his tweets included some sweet sarcasm. “If you look at all my five tweets, they do not include any indecent words. Neither have I named anyone. It is only a mirror for some people,” the Chief Minister said. The tweet war was the first direct confrontation between Nitish and Lalu after disintegration of the Mahagathbandhan in July this year.Replying to a query on democracy within the Congress party, Nitish said it was their internal matter. “Everyone knows that the number 1 position in Congress is fixed and the rest get posts starting number 2. That has been their culture and tradition,” he said.He took a dig on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi stating that few people were trying to prove themselves “janeu-dhari Hindu” (one who wears Brahminical thread) while seeking votes in the Gujarat polls. “But those who don’t wear janeu, aren’t they Hindus. We are the followers of Jai Prakash Narayan, who had refused to wear janeu in front of thousands of people,” Nitish said.On another query regarding reservation in promotion, which was recently taken up by Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Nitish said he too was in its favour. “We have supported it earlier too. We had introduced it for SC and ST but it was challenged and struck down by the Patna High Court. The matter is now pending in the Supreme Court,” he said.Meanwhile Lalu continued with the Twitter war targeting the Bihar government over “development” and said, “Where is the development, education, healthcare and employment? Achievements can be shown only if there’s any.”

Teen’s high-rise acts raise security concerns

Videos and photographs of a 17-year-old mechanical engineering student that had gone viral on social media on Wednesday has brought to fore the issue of unguarded high-rise buildings in the city that could possibly be used for criminal activity. The youth had performed daredevil stunts on the top of four high-rises in South Mumbai buildings by breaching security. He was summoned by the police after the police were informed about it on Twitter. On Wednesday, DNA had reported about Pranal Chavan, who claimed to be India’s only ‘Urban Free Climber’. Chavan had started performing stunts last month and had uploaded at least three videos of him performing stunts, on social media. Chavan claims to have performed stunts at Lodha The Park at Lower Parel, Lokhandwala Minerva at Mahalakshmi and Worli Omkar 1973.“There is a need to crack the whip on persons who risk their lives by performing stunts. The teenager, if caught, can be booked under cognisable sections 447 (criminal trespass), which attracts imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months,” said former IPS officer-turned-lawyer YP Singh.“It has raised serious questions on the security measures inside the under-construction buildings. Any untoward incident could have led to a major accident at the building. The builder or supervisor should not allow outsiders to enter the building,” said Singh.APOLOGYThe teen on Wednesday deleted videos uploaded by him fearing police action and a warning. “Next time I will take permission from the builder before performing any stunts,” he said.

PM Modi believes in unity of India, its potential: Barack Obama

Saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision for India, former US President Barack Obama Friday said he was of the opinion that Modi “believes in unity of India”.Obama also met Modi later. This was the first meeting between the two leaders after Obama left the White House in January. The former President also talked fondly of Modi’s predecessor Manmohan Singh, who, he said, had laid the foundation of the modern Indian economy.”I like him (Modi). I think he has a vision for the country… I was also great friends with Dr Manmohan Singh. He laid the foundation of the modern Indian economy. The unifying theme in both these leaders during my tenure was the focus on India-US relations,” he said while speaking at a summit organised by a media house.Saying that politicians often mirror society and the people of India can strengthen the hands of politicians by speaking out against divisive forces, the former US president said he had raised the issue of religious freedoms in a private conversation with Modi. He, however, refused to share Modi’s response to him, only saying, “I think his impulses are to recognise the importance of Indian unity. I know that he firmly believes in the need for that in order to advance to the great nation status that India possesses and will continue to amplify in the years to come.”He also underlined the need for India to cherish and nurture its Muslim population, which, he said “is integrated and considers itself Indian”.”That is unfortunately not always the case in some other countries. And that is something that needs to be cherished and nurtured, cultivated. It’s important to continue reinforcing it,” he asserted.Asking the citizens to speak out against divisive forces, Obama said in democracies like India and the US, the “office of citizen” was the “most important office”.”It is the responsibility of everyone to speak out against divisive forces and to reinforce such views… Politicians, on the other hand, rarely get too far ahead of public opinion, and often reflect the views of society… So if you see a politician doing things that are questionable, one of the things is to ask yourself, ‘Am I encouraging or supporting or giving licence to the values that I am hearing out of the politician?’ Because frankly, politicians tend to be more of a mirror, and more of a reflection of forces in society,” Obama said.He said that if “communities across India” say they won’t fall prey to division, it will “strengthen the hand of those politicians who feel the same way”.Saying that democracy was under threat today, Obama said “a partnership between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy is the key… The Internet has the ability to propagate propaganda that is destructive to democracies…. The distinction between us and them is dangerous.”Talking about Pakistan’s role in spearing terrorism, the former President said, “We had no evidence that Pakistan was aware of Osama bin Laden’s presence there but that is something obviously we looked at.”He also said that after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the US Government was “as obsessed as India with dismantling the terror network”. “Terrorism of any sort eventually affects everyone,” he added. In an apparent dig at his successor Donald Trump, who is very active on twitter, mostly to ridicule his rivals and the media, Obama said, “I have more Twitter followers than people who use it more often. Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp are very powerful tools which can be used for both good and bad. We need to understand the challenges of these technologies. It leads to snap judgment.”Later in the day, Obama also conducted a town hall event in Delhi for the Obama Foundation, where he interacted with an estimated 280 young leaders from across India.”India and US have so much in common. The US, is home, of course, to millions of Indian Americans and their proud heritage is at the same time combined with an incredible contribution they make in every field in United States… Both of our countries are hugely diverse. We have different languages and backgrounds and different ethnicities and different race… The partnership I believe between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy could be a defining partnership of the 21st century,” he said.

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Vijay Goel on Sunday criticised Congress’ youth wing for a meme it had put out mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “chaiwala” past, and said its parent party-the Congress – should have condemned it.Speaking to reporters after taking part in ‘Mann Ki Baat – Chai Ke Saath’ event in Delhi, Goel said at a time when the prime minister was trying to take India forward, the Congress’ youth wing was stooping down with its tweets and memes.”Congress should have condemned it. Politicians should not stoop down as it would be difficult to recover from that level,” he said.On November 21, the official Twitter handle of the Youth Congress online magazine ‘Yuva Desh’ had kicked up a row by mocking Modi’s “chaiwala” past and English-speaking skills through a photograph showing him in a conversation with British premier Theresa May and US President Donald Trump. The meme was removed soon after it was put out.And Congress communications incharge Randeep Surjewala has said on Twitter that Congress “strongly disapproves and rejects such humour through memes. Differences on policy and opinion aside, Congress culture imbibes respect for PM and all political opponents.””There was no prime minister who had done so much work and initiated so many schemes, which is evident from Moody’s rating,” Goel said, adding that the saffron party will sweep the Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.”Along with the Modi government at the Centre, more BJP or NDA states should join to make India better and positive,” he said. When the BJP-led government talks about positivity and the prime minister educates people with his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programmes, the opposition only engages in negativity, he added.

‘Chai-Wala versus Bar-Wala’: All out war on social media between Congress-BJP over Meme-Tweet

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>On defensive after a tweet of Youth Congress’s online magazine Yuva Desh mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tea-seller origin, Congress on Wednesday went all out against BJP after its MP Paresh Rawal took ‘bar-wala’ jibe, which he deleted finally, conceding it was ‘in bad taste’.“Our Chai-Wala is any better than your Bar-Wala,” Rawal, who is MP from Ahmedabad East said on Twitter reacting to ‘chaiwallah’ remark for Modi in a meme on Yuva Desh handle.”The meme, now deleted, showed PM Modi speaking to US President Donald Trump and Britain’s PM Theresa May in Hindi speech bubbles. PM Modi is seen asking, “Have you guys seen how may-may’s made on me by the opposition?”. Trump corrects PM Modi and responds, “It is called memes not maymays”, while Britain’s PM is seen responding with remarks, “you sell tea”.As BJP went all guns blazing, an apparently embarrassed Congress on Tuesday disapproved of the tweet with Congress’ media in-charge Randeep Surjewala tweeting “INC strongly disapproves and rejects such humour through memes. Differences on policy and opinion aside, Congress culture imbibes respect for the PM and all political opponents (sic).”The discomfiture in Congress with the meme was all the more palpable as it came just days after Rahul Gandhi’s advice to Congress party’s social media cadre in Gujarat, not to disrespect the PM’s post.Congress has been wary of any personal attack on Modi’s origins. In the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had mocked Modi’s tea-seller origin saying that while Modi will never become the Prime Minister of the country. But if he wants to distribute tea here, we will find a place for him. Many in the Congress felt the remark antagonized the poor.Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani termed the tweet of ‘Yuva Desh’ as “classist and anti-poor” and asked Rahul Gandhi if he supports this kind of tweet.Whereas, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asked Sonia Gandhi and Rahul as to whether they ‘still believe that only u have a divine right to rule India’. He also said Congress ‘thinking towards the poor stands exposed’A day after the embarrassment, Congress on Wednesday got its chance.Latching on to the tweet of Rawal, Surjewala remarked “To what cheapness and filth, the BJP MP of Gujarat has stooped. Is this the BJP’s definition of the honour of women. Modiji apologise and take action…”Rawal later tweeted, ‘deleted the tweet as it’s in bad taste n I apologise for hurting feelings’.However, when a twitter user asked him why does he not delete his Twitter handle itself, Rawal replied: “Cong ke delete hote hi account bhi automatically delete Ho jayega.”The all-out war on social media has broken out between BJP and Congress in the run up to Gujarat polls as the medium is playing a big role in the high-octane election campaign by both sides.Rawal’s earlier tweet about tying author Arundhati Roy to army jeep instead of a stone pelter, had also kicked in a controversy in May this year.
