We all know elephants are gentle giants. But often their interaction with humans lead to unfortunate results. In many places, elephants who enter human locality lead to massive destruction of public property and sometimes attack people too. But it was not the case in Coimbatore recently. According to a clip, which has gone viral and shared by news agency ANI, an elephant and its calf entered the yard of a house looking to get some food. However, not seeing any food in the vicinity, the elephants slowly made their way out without causing any harm to property. Luckily there wasn’t any human being in the vicinity, so no was injured. However sometimes the situation is not so rosy. Last month, on the 24th, a herd of seven elephants damaged standing paddy crop in a number of villages in Gajapati district of Odisha. The herd strayed into the villages under Goshani block near Paralakhemundi and it might have migrated from Lakhari elephant reserve via Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, Divisional Forest Officer, Berhampur, A K Behera, who is also the in-charge of Paralakhemundi Forest Divicion said. With increasing urbanisation, the number of conflicts between humans and animals are on the rise. According to reports, over 1000 people have been killed in the last three years owing to attack from elephants. Also readBangladesh: Wild elephants trample two Rohingya refugees to deathWith PTI inputs
